449 2/27/2020 10:34:00 PM Summer 1863 Confederate Message I'm going to go ahead and thrown in the towel on this one. you have bested me for certain even if i get some lucky dice rolls in combat with pocketing those 2 armies. Best of luck on your next games in POG and FTP, will try to remember to go look for the ACTS logs from time to time.

i'll reach back out after we have moved inot our new house and start up again, this time as the Union again!

447 2/18/2020 3:52:00 PM Summer 1863 Union Message I was originally going to let AoP forage for another turn. The original plan was to clear forts in Dover + Columbus and try breaking Vicksburg with Pope. That would have given me the control of Mississippi river I think. But as you built another fort in Nashville, had to rethink about it a bit.

You may be right that getting a good grip of this piece requires tons and tons of games. Not sure how many I have under my belt but I'd say I'm reaching 50+ easily. And if you explore other titles that cuts the play time of FtP in the end. Of course it helps if you get to learn some well proven tactics and strategies and then you just keep using those slightly modified over time.
446 2/18/2020 3:19:00 PM Summer 1863 Confederate Message I believe you are right. guess I should have stopped worrying about Memphis and done something about the East. I thought you would just let AOP whither some more on the vine while Grant went rampaging more in the West.

I feel like I was getting better at this game back in 2018 but as I've continued to learn more and more games and play lots of other stuff I think i'm actually regressing and/or stagnating in my skill at this game now that I'm spreading myself so wide.

418 2/13/2020 12:33:00 PM Spring 1863 Confederate Message BTY. interesting how this war is adhering much closer to history. things are a mess for Union in the east but the overall war is still being won in the West.

BTW, I played Axis Empires next to the table of Thomas Prowell, the lead designer and developer of the game. and after he finishes this last edition of the game (with expanded air and naval rules) he will be working more on finishing his 4 mapper US CW game! it sounds fascinating and he has won my respect through his work on Axis Empires and how unique and interesting that game is.

he said one of the main inflection points will be in 1862 when the Lincoln admin will have to either pursue total war and emancipation which extends the war to 1865 or they can pursue what many other countries did to end slavery in teh West, compensation for enslaved peoples followed by manumission which ends the war much sooner and I would presume is a lot less strict of victory conditions in exchange.

399 2/11/2020 5:08:00 PM Spring 1863 Confederate Message Thank you for your patience. work always drains me the couple days after I get back from vacation. I went to Seattle for Game On and got to play GCACW (Roads to Gettysburg II), Pax Pamir 2nd Ed and couple times and finally 2 full days of Axis Empires: Totaler Krieg. What a great experience...wish I hadn't waited so long to start going to conventions but I'm happy to be doing them now. it was great to get away from work and the daily grind and barely be on phone or CPU and just play games. And AE TK is so good it has fired all other WWII grand strategy games for me.

396 2/7/2020 9:47:00 AM Spring 1863 Union Message Here he comes indeed. I'll race forward no matter the cost. Lets see if he punches a hole in your line.

First game of the FtP tourney ended already. Prematurely I would say but my opponent felt he didn't see any point of continuing. We were as far as turn 2 but he felt that his CSA wont stand a chance thanks to my nice opening hands. Pretty dull but what can you do.
395 2/6/2020 1:23:00 PM Spring 1863 Confederate Message and here he comes! was reading that he almost got shelved in a rear dept after Shiloh even though they won because he had been surprised and Grant's enemies started spreading rumors that he had picked back up his drinking problem and Halleck was already not a fan of him and so he got put into a lower level responsibility for several months before getting another chance to command an army again.

I will try to make a move in next 24-48 hours. I'm at a convention with a rare few days to do live war games!

371 1/22/2020 8:44:00 AM Fall 1862 Confederate Message At least Forrest can rest in peace knowing he helped give Abe a scare. Can you handle EOT stuff? I need to head off to work!
370 1/22/2020 8:42:00 AM Fall 1862 Confederate Message Ha ha, Forrest was fated to meet his end.

so the 1 SP is in the turn track, 1 lost, n6 and I will leave 1 SP in DC, n5 and then use last MP to return to Frederick MD.

General loss:
1-2 Forrest
3-4 PGT B
5-6 Pemberton
368 1/22/2020 8:39:00 AM Fall 1862 Confederate Message I'm sure you will get at least a few wins in FTP. let me know how you are doing, i might even drop over and check out your progress on ACTS logs.

i'll go ahead and re-roll the casualties. thanks for your generous offer.
367 1/21/2020 1:46:00 PM Fall 1862 Union Message Hoping I can play 3 games at least. That would require single win I think.

In PoG tourney, I'm currently waiting for the next round to begin. Currently 3-0 so I'll guess next game will be quite hard.

Was just about to write a long answer but just roll the general casualty again with 3 generals. If it strikes Forrest again then its the way ACTS wishes it to be hoh.
366 1/21/2020 1:43:00 PM Fall 1862 Confederate Message Ok thank you, that will also change my general casualty check will it not...since now i will have 3 generals to randomly decide fate. ugh, so many problems were created by that mistake. or if it would be more fair, a roll off between Pemberton and Forrest since fate already decided PGT was safe. up to you since it was my screw up. i think you have the game well in hand either way even with this hail mary since Grant is coming to town.
365 1/21/2020 1:42:00 PM Fall 1862 Confederate Message By the way, good luck on your tourney. if I wasn't looking at moving into a new house this spring and so busy with PBEM, i would have joined in, but I will wait till next year. I look forward to hearing tales fo your exploits as you assuredly will go farther than I would.

has POG tourney resumed or still waiting for next round?
364 1/21/2020 1:41:00 PM Fall 1862 Union Message Its ok for me if you would have wished not to leave 2SP in Manassas and attack DC with 8SP. You can adjust your final 1mp move like that if you wish.
363 1/21/2020 1:39:00 PM Fall 1862 Confederate Message oh duh, stupid 4 SPs....had i realized that i would have not dropped 2 SPs in Manassas. Oh well, my fault for not looking closer.

please amend end of my log before you do the EOT stuff.
362 1/21/2020 1:38:00 PM Fall 1862 Confederate Message you have to decide where to send that SP and then I'm gonna leave EOT stuff to you if that is ok since I need to wrap up lunch and you have troops to place next and most of the PCs are yours to place plus the devastation of 3 CSA states :(
361 1/21/2020 1:38:00 PM Fall 1862 Union Message Baltimore is good retreat space I'll guess.
And no movement after combat as there were 4SPs in DC

Shall I make end of turn things?
Capital will move to Springfield IL
360 1/21/2020 1:36:00 PM Fall 1862 Confederate Message -30 SW for Capitol -3 FOW changing = 74-
359 1/21/2020 1:35:00 PM Fall 1862 Confederate Message ok so AONV had 6 going into battle. lost 1 in fight but Forrest fell so I had to drop 2 SPs, 1 lost and 1 to TT, n4. i will instead leave 2 in DC, n2 and march back to Frederick.
358 1/21/2020 1:33:00 PM Fall 1862 Confederate Message to where do you want to send that lone SP that survived. it can go to baltimore wehre it won't suffer attrition like it would in Annapolis or you can sail it I suppose.
357 1/21/2020 1:32:00 PM Fall 1862 Confederate Message nooooo! Forrest falls. struck down in his prime and replaced in 3 turns by Pegram. and per the rules i have to lose 2SPs that were part of his brigade and since we only lost 1 SP in fight i have to send 1 SP to turn track fo rnext turn.

Does Lee lose a subordinate.
354 1/21/2020 1:29:00 PM Fall 1862 Confederate Message Huzzah anyways, 3*-1 result upheld. actually, i was going to win the battle anyways once you rolled that 3 for a 1 result since at worst, Lee would be getting a 2* result to win.

now to do a General CC and probably lose Forrest as my cost.
