654 1/27/2020 11:47:00 AM 1809-1810 France Message It would be bad for me to quite while your are in the edge of a great victory ( even though I know I am right)

Hopefully it won’t come up again for a few year’s by the time will have introduced you to the games designer s

Now all I have to in this game is wait for you to make a mistake

653 1/27/2020 10:34:00 AM 1809-1810 Britain Message Well, i hate this schit, too, and, like you, i am confrontational, fiery, dyslexic, and like an aperitif with my lunch.
this is the greatest game ever invented. and you are one hell of an opponent -- it is lucky for me to have you to beat on/get whacked by. but "battle events" (definition? isnt this a battle event?) "can only be played by those participating in battle" while "responses" can be played by anyone? clarity? i have just destroyed Napoleon army in this game because England played "To the death" -- no pieces in the battle. wtf?

650 1/26/2020 6:37:00 PM 1809-1810 France Message So no rich who ever he is his interpretation is erroneous

Tell him to read the card the French can make “ONE” automatically interception or “ONE” automatic evasion

Is that really moving anywhere the French want in his example? Hardly unless we have a different interpretation of the word anywhere

Ok no such thing a as a battle event card

6.15 BATTLE CARDS: Events with a black crossbar can be used in battles by any nation with a Formation present in that battle. Any number of battle cards is playable as events in a battle (11.1). Battle cards cannot be used as events in a siege or naval battle unless specifically cited as such by the event.

Here’s the best part

6.14 RESPONSES: Response cards, identified by a blue striped crossbar, may be played during any Impulse by anyone to interrupt the Active Player’s Impulse, any battle (regardless of the involvement of their own pieces), or event. Response cards may also be used as a normal Impulse play.

Notice the part about”regardless if they have any pieces in the battle” they may play a responder card

I have never witnessed two people try so hard to play this game wrong

mark McLaughlin
Fred shafuer

641 1/26/2020 1:33:00 PM 1809-1810 Britain Message playing it the right way, is the right way
Sicilians, as you know, can never be reformed because they are already perfect (Tomaso di Lampedusa)
640 1/26/2020 1:23:00 PM 1809-1810 Britain Message well, Rich made a good point which convinced me:

"In your interpretation, would it be reasonable for a power France is at war with to play the card to move French fleets where it would like them?"

in any case, once you played your second reserve/Napoleon to save yourself from a rout, it was clear i had to keep hitting you. dice cooperated. that makes me feel smart. but it's just dice.

so... let's see dice on BOB, my friend.
639 1/26/2020 1:21:00 PM 1809-1810 France Message Man I don’t mecicans kind of scare me
And that coming from a had core Sicilian

You know .wdcSicilians take our revenge so seriously we even have our own word for it “Vendetta “

Speaking of Sicilians “why don’t Sicilians like Jehovah Witnesses ?
...because Sicilians don’t like any witnesses.

So tell the guy he’s wrong do you want me to get the developer of the Napoleonic war to send an email?

My whole point was not to play my way but to play it the right way

638 1/26/2020 1:12:00 PM 1809-1810 France Message See here the thing mark McLaughlin (the games designer said)
“ take the card at face value—don’t read anything into it. ”

no nothing is implied

But, we can play it how ever you want
you won a massive battle this game I want to see the glory shine upon thou
637 1/26/2020 11:10:00 AM 1809-1810 Britain Message So, we have Rich Shipley's reply, and it is a good one. Check this out:

"Both clauses have an implied "you". If it was meant to apply to any fleet, it would say "a fleet automatically evades..."

In your interpretation, would it be reasonable for a power France is at war with to play the card to move French fleets where it would like them?"

never quite thought the business this way. what do you make of it?
636 1/26/2020 11:09:00 AM 1809-1810 Britain Message The mediterraneans are heirs to the Roman culture... meaning they are devious, dishonest, manipulative, disrespectful of commonweal... Mexicans are just fat from eating too much tamales and spending all night playing with the remote control

woops, did i just say something politically incorrect?!?!?
635 1/26/2020 3:45:00 AM 1809-1810 France Message Lol , why , are Spanish not nice
Can u imagine a mean Castilian with the traditional lisps

I understand that if a person wants to play the card for the first part the power that gains the benefit must be the power that plays it
But, any power can play the second part and power can benefit from it

Because the word OR, ( and I am really not trying to be a dick here) means because of the sentence structure that it is really two cards one or the other

You’ll notice I do not spell perfect but I do now exact gramerical structure and the application of possession I used to drive my teachers crazy with an IQ of 150 but spelling like a child (minor dyslexic)

Anyways have u watched “The Witcher” lots of cool eastern euro myth fable references
I think it was a polish author ( but don’t get at me if I am wrong)
634 1/26/2020 3:33:00 AM 1809-1810 Britain Message just bear with me: i want to know what these guys think, alright? you make a good point. i was really pissed the other day to be denied use of split squadrons, even though the card text contains no national identifiers.

dont worry about mexicans. i am sure they are much nicer than the spaniards i know :)
633 1/26/2020 3:26:00 AM 1809-1810 France Message Well it looks like the whole community is wrong and I’m right would you like me to put you in touch with the game designer so you can talk to him directly get the good info the Mexicans is a joke I live in San Diego 17 miles from Mexico I have no problem with Mexican or Spanish that I love them both so just learn with the jokes a joke
632 1/26/2020 3:25:00 AM 1809-1810 Britain Message yo, frank, i can see the point you are making of distinguishing part 1 and part 2. it seems to me that "you" is the agent playing the card, which is who -- "Frank"? or "Spain"?

weird. let me see if i can get garreth or rick to respond to it, if any shows any shadow of doubt, i will go with your interpretation.

i just arrived on the beach in algarve for a 1 month holiday, and will be busy setting up the house, so may not be much oline today.

631 1/25/2020 10:00:00 PM 1809-1810 France Message Here’s the answer from the game master what do they call him I don’t know from world board gaming championship

He refers to mark and Fred (designer and developer respectively)

If this is not good enough for you I will reach out to FRED he busted up his leg so u did not want to bother him but he kinda owes me one because I figured out away to cancel “The hand of god” in Wellington

Hey Pat I was wondering if you had time to take a look at a card from the Napoleonic wars and tell me what you think about the question a question

Card number 17

(Here is where I copied the image of the card but ACTS does not transfer images)
Its a French turn some French ships are intercepted and failed evasion the Spainish play the above as a response

The only part of this card I believe that applies is OR: and everything after that

I I can definitely see how if I wanted to use the first part of the card the French would have to play the But the second part of the card provides No individual nation identifiers it just says automatically evade let me know if I’m missing something or if you think that if anything else

Appreciate your knowledge having fun with the game

630 1/25/2020 6:37:00 PM 1809-1810 France Return Strategy card to hand #17: 4 / The Weather Gauge

Message from France:
629 1/25/2020 12:35:00 PM 1809-1810 Britain Message Well, I ask on BGG because I want to learn to play the way the game is played by the community, not the way Frank plays it. You will recall we had a similar argument about Turkish reinforcements; your view looked patently wrong to me, I agreed to go along with it not because your argument convinced me -- there wasn't much argument -- but just to be agreeable. A day later, Garreth confirmed on BGG that my interpretation would be the generally accepted one, not yours. I don't want to keep doing this.

If you followed the link I have posted here, you would have seen the opinion of Garreth Williams, who, along with Rick Shields, are generally held to be authorities on the game, as they moderate championships, etc. Consequently, I would like to play the game the way they do.

One important reason to do that is to know what one can expect. In another game I am playing someone questioned my use of Split Squadrons which was just like yours: Austria played it in favor of Britain. Well, it turns out that is not allowed. "It can be used only by a player with an involved Squadron." (http://www.boardgamers.org/specific/nappy.htm) If you must have ships in the battle to play that, I read across to mean you must have ships in the battle to play weather gauge.

If you think your interpretation is correct, and have a direct line to the game designer, go ahead and ask and I will go by that answer. But for me, Garreth Williams is enough. I say Spain cannot play the card.

Any Attrition losses suffered inflicted are assessed first to non-disrupted Units/leaders and contribute to possible rout conditions. This event can be voided by play of the Rally or Rear Guard events prior to the Attrition roll.
