Message from Neil Moore:
Back in ACTs once more, I paste this second attack into this die rolling window before rolling for the attack like so...

"Everything opposite and eligible vs 336th ID, 6 vs 3 after river tem, down a column for town = 2 to 1".
20 2/11/2020 8:09:00 PM Turn 1 Neil Moore Message The result is a 1, which will have automatically been sent to both of us. If I now highlight and copy this piece of text, I can carry this back over to the AVL logfile and paste it in there like so...

19 2/11/2020 8:07:00 PM Turn 1 Neil Moore Die roll request Request: 6-sided die x 1

Message from Neil Moore:
Here I paste the attack I just denoted in the Vassal log file, before rolling the attack, like so...

4 vs 2 after river tem. = 2 to 1
18 2/11/2020 8:06:00 PM Turn 1 Neil Moore Message So I've come into ACTs now to make the combat die roll.

17 2/3/2020 12:32:00 AM Turn 1 Neil Moore Message This last HQ roll indicates that the Russians final remaining yet to activate HQ is up next, meaning the final German HQ yet to activate will round out the turn.

Hopefully this explains how we'll use ACTs, something that should flow fairly effortlessly once we're up and running.
16 2/3/2020 12:30:00 AM Turn 1 Neil Moore Die roll request Request: 2-sided die x 1

Message from Neil Moore:
T1 C6 HQ roll, Sov = 1, Ger = 2
15 2/3/2020 12:29:00 AM Turn 1 Neil Moore Message A 1 finally activates Stavka, where you'll really get to have some fun moving this gargantuan beast forward!

This leaves just two HQs left to activate...
14 2/3/2020 12:28:00 AM Turn 1 Neil Moore Die roll request Request: 3-sided die x 1

Message from Neil Moore:
T1 C5 HQ roll, Sov = 1 - 2, Ger = 3
13 2/3/2020 12:27:00 AM Turn 1 Neil Moore Message As we get thru the activation's, the dice number drops to correspond with the number of yet to activate HQs. This time the result is 2, obviously this would be the second HQ you'd nominated for your Russians in T1.

12 2/3/2020 12:24:00 AM Turn 1 Neil Moore Die roll request Request: 4-sided die x 1

2

Message from Neil Moore:

T1 C4 HQ roll, Sov = 1 - 3, Ger = 4
11 2/3/2020 12:23:00 AM Turn 1 Neil Moore Message This time the result of 4 indicates the first Russian activation of the turn. Obviously it's their fourth HQ in the queue.

Proceeding on...
10 2/3/2020 12:22:00 AM Turn 1 Neil Moore Die roll request Request: 5-sided die x 1

4

Message from Neil Moore:
T1 C3 HQ roll, 1 - 4 = Sov, 5 = Ger
9 2/3/2020 12:20:00 AM Turn 1 Neil Moore Message So this time a result of 5 indicates that once again the activation would be German, and it would in fact be their first HQ selected for the turn, or in other words their first HQ in the queue yet to activate in T1.

Hopefully this is making sense? I'll do a couple more example rolls...
8 2/3/2020 12:17:00 AM Turn 1 Neil Moore Die roll request Request: 6-sided die x 1

Message from Neil Moore:

T1 C2 HQ roll, Sov = 1 - 4, Ger = 5 - 6
7 2/3/2020 12:17:00 AM Turn 1 Neil Moore Message Say I've taken my activation an submitted the relevant logfile to you. This would lead us to the next HQ activation roll of the turn. Denoting it something like this:

T1 C2 HQ roll, Sov = 1 - 4, Ger = 5 - 6

Notice that as one HQ has already activated for the turn, we'd now be rolling a 6 sided dice to correspond with the six remaining HQs yet to activate.
6 2/3/2020 12:13:00 AM Turn 1 Neil Moore Message A die result of 7 indicates that it's a German activation, and is it's the number 7, this would corrospond with my last HQ in the queue... or the one I denoted in the notes window in the AVL Vassal module as the "third" German HQ of the turn. Had the roll instead been a 5, then this would correspond with the Germans first nominated HQ for the turn.

Equally, a roll of 1 would mean it's a Russian activation... Stavka in fact if we adopt the Stavka's always # 1 convention.

So, that's the first HQ roll done, and we've determined in this hypothetical situation it was the German third HQ in the queue.
5 2/3/2020 12:08:00 AM Turn 1 Neil Moore Die roll request Request: 7-sided die x 1

7

Message from Neil Moore:
First HQ activation roll...

T1 C1 HQ roll, Sov = 1 - 4, Ger = 5 - 7
4 2/3/2020 12:06:00 AM Turn 1 Neil Moore Message Say this was to be our first HQ activation die roll for T1. Since there would be 7 HQ activation markers going into the mug for T1 (4 Russian or Sov's, 3 Axis or Ger's) we would select the number of sides to this die roll to be 7.

We'd then make a note in the message window box of the die roller, words to the following effect:

T1 C1 HQ roll, Sov = 1 - 4, Ger = 5 - 7.

As I mentioned previously, I think it's worth observing the convention of the Russians always going first witht he low numbers meaning they'll always be activating on a roll of 1 - 4 for the first activation roll of a turn. The Germans of course have variable activations, but the rule simply is as many activations as there in any given turn will always corrospond to the number on the die we roll.

So lets give this a try...

3 2/3/2020 Turn 1 Neil Moore Message Anyway, while I wait for fire, I thought I'd try and walk you thru how we'll use ACTs. Obviously using the log function is handy just like I'm doing now. If we get into the habit of announcing who's "up" each time a new HQ activation is determined, this can effectively be our virtual chess clock. As Jeffs stated he wants these first round of games in by 4 months and will be policing time, usage, this will be an effective way for us to demonstrate how we're doing time wise.

I'll now do a demo of how to do a HQ activation using the die roll function of ACTs.
2 2/2/2020 11:52:00 PM Turn 1 Neil Moore Message The winds picked up and a fire crew of six has visited us today, checking our readiness and water availability. It's interesting hearing the American accents coming across the emergency services comms channel, there's a few US firefighters helping us out locally. You wouldn't happen to be form the US would you?
1 1/28/2020 7:57:00 PM Turn 1 Neil Moore Message Here's the link to our game on ACTs Jim.
