929 7/9/2020 5:27:00 PM Winter 1919 Central Powers Message Hi Mark. Thanks for the game. I had a great time.

I totally disagree that you made a lot of errors. I think it was very close through the first 15 or so turns and could have went either way. As I said, I haven't had a lot of experience with the CP and I thought your defense of Russia was excellent - it really had me nervous at times. Hope to meet you in person sometime at WBC or something.

881 6/30/2020 6:17:00 PM Winter 1919 Allies Message yea i was trying in the last 5 turns or so to do exactly what you are saying - every chance i could i would attack on western front and see if i could wear you down
my mulhouse placement was a mistake - but i did it because i wanted to put pressure on strasborg which otherwise you didnt have to reinforce as much
but its clearly not worth it - oh well
so i think between your massive rps, ah armies, fr mutiny, and that brit card as well as the blockade card i couldnt make a dent - but i agree with the math - i have a lot more armies there if i can just keep banging i could get through - armies with 3 loss factor no less
yea i usually try to keep 10 and if im in bad straits 11 ge armies on west front - ive got in trouble with 9 before - 11 isnt great as it only allows for 4 on east which isnt really enough
it does seem the west front banging should try to start as soon as possible not in the last 5 moves of the game with fr mutiny in effect

872 6/30/2020 4:49:00 PM Fall 1918 Central Powers Message Talking about the Western Front just a bit more: right now I have 10 German armies and 2 AH armies holding 4 spaces. That's a pretty serious force. But I could only send the Austrians there after FoTT.

Some people try to get away with holding the Western Front with 9 German armies. But even with 10, here is some basic math: The Allies have 5 British, 1 Belgian and 9 French armies. That is a LOT of loss factors. With limitless OPS, the Allies could beat the Germans to a bloody pulp in one turn. Of course, the Allies do not get limitless OPS and have to use at least one card for RPs.

I try to stack my Brits and Belgians just like you had them. And then try to get 3 French armies in each CT, Verdun and Nancy. Casualties from previous turns often mess this up. But keep a pristine stack of 3 in Verdun, so that it can support attacks on either Sedan or Metz.

Some turns, your cards are going to stink. Dance around the best as you can on those turns. But every once in a while you are going to get a great hand. When you do, pound mercilessly. The first attacks often just flip a German army in each stack. But by the end of the second one, those stacks start looking thinner. By the end of your fourth consecutive OPS card, the Germans are no longer thinking at all about Russia and are just hoping to not see you break through. A single turn like this can set the CP's carefully laid plans back by 2-3 turns. And anything you can do to delay the onslaught on Russia brings you that much closer to winning.
871 6/30/2020 4:40:00 PM Fall 1918 Allies Message well thanks for all the feedback
i usually play the MEF -
i think in this game you had me scrambling here and there
and then i just wanted to use it for ops on the west front
salonika i usually play if i get it with orient army so i can immediately get the orient in there. otherwise salonika just gets wiped out right away though i guess it does make the cp spend a few turns doing that
yea i like sending italians to the balkans - have seen it done rarely have done this myself
yea i paniced in italy with you taking away my army and pounding me there - prob shouldntve sent the 2nd fr army down there as handy to have hitting germans on the west front
870 6/30/2020 4:33:00 PM Fall 1918 Central Powers Message Hi Mark. I agree on just about everything you said.

Weirdly, because you kept War Status down, I ended up having to take Kovno to get the Tsar to fall, so the loss of Baku did not make a big difference. But having been burned like this, I agree that CAU is an absolute must play in LW.

I thought you should not have sent the second French army to Italy. But either way, I thought you should have attacked much more with the French. I agree 100% on CT vs. Mulhouse. As the Allies, I beat my French mercilessly any turn that there is no Mutiny. And, as you suggested, I do attack with my Russians too, when it makes sense. If the CP is not very careful in terms of taking RPs, the EB can start filling up very quickly. Every dead German unit takes some pressure off. And every CP RP play, takes some pressure off.

Like you, I do build trenches in the East. And I do not overextend my Russians by attacking deep into Germany or Hungary. You did good in this respect.

Like you, I often do not play Salonika or MEF early, but you never played them. A timely play of Salonika could possibly gain the Russians a turn to recover. Or present a major risk to the CP if they wait even one turn to respond. In concert, I often try to send two Italian armies to the Balkans. Along those lines, the loss of an Italian army early did hurt you a bit. That was partially the result of getting the Italy card late. But, if possible, I try to get to LW with the AP on turn 3. Minimize the welcoming committee that will meet the Italians.

I was very impressed by your attempts to hold Brussels. You played that chess game very well, minimizing OPS while maximizing pressure. I don't recall the exact sequence, but I assume that decision to try hold Brussels went hand in hand with not getting to LW until turn 4. These are the risk/reward decisions that make PoG such a great game.

866 6/29/2020 4:10:00 PM Fall 1918 Allies Message im throwing everything i can at west front
im making you rp - but not making any. dent
i know some people break thru on west front
but its hard to see how - it seems like its not that
hard to defend
maybe if i started in earlier? at the risk of the russians (or italians) going down even earlier?
i did wear down my french early on rather low and took a bit to recover from that i suppose
at this point russia is toast and you can freely send eastern fron ge & ah over at will so its rather sysephisian i suppose - but just wanted to see what full blast french & brits could do
maybe i should also be having french in c-t instead of nulhouse - mulhouse taking too much to reinforce - too far from paris
also woulda been nice to have just 1 fr army in italy
but your original it attack decimated the italians
i dont think you even need that last rp - i could be wrong

845 6/25/2020 9:03:00 PM Fall 1918 Allies Play Strategy card as Operations #9: 3 / Moltke
May only be played in August or September 1914. CP Activation in Belgium or France costs 1 OPS per unit (not space) until the "Falkenhayn" card is played. All units must be activated in a space. Supersedes Sud Army and Eleventh army card effects.

836 6/25/2020 1:48:00 PM Fall 1918 Central Powers Play Strategy card as Event #55: 4 / Lloyd George
May not be played after MICHEL, BLUCHER, or PEACE OFFENSIVE. No BR attacks vs. Level 2 entrenched GE units may be made for the rest of this turn. The effect of this card is canceled by play of MICHEL, BLUCHER, or PEACE OFFENSIVE events. This event may mean that a BR MO cannot be fulfilled in a specific turn.
