Good to game with you all my friends !
880 1/16/2021 5:54:00 PM 309-297 BC Gaul Message Not me, thanks. I have never liked the game system and only played once to try it with you guys.

You know how you love some designers and don't click with others? I've played three games by Wray Farrell--Sword of Rome, Time of Crisis, and the upcoming Barracks Emperors--haven't enjoyed any of them. I won't say they are bad games, because the first two have huge followings, but they are not for me.
879 1/16/2021 5:21:00 PM 309-297 BC Greek Message Seriously though.....

Who would want to play another 4 player with each of us switching sides ?

I'm in !
878 1/12/2021 6:31:00 PM 309-297 BC Greek Message Thank you Gentlemen.............

Sadly it was easy.......I really did not do much, except sit back and defend from Carthage and put loyalty points into my cities and be opportunistic when I could.

I really do like Sword of Rome and have won with each power at some point in a 4 player game. I have yet to play the 5 player version, but I have it now from having won on a FB Pay it Forward gamer page.

I would gladly play this again or any other 4/5 player game or any 2 player game that any of you would like to play.
877 1/12/2021 9:56:00 AM 309-297 BC Etruscan-Samnite Message Congrats Jeff on a pretty easy victory.
876 1/11/2021 7:17:00 PM 309-297 BC Gaul Message But but but

Gaul didn't get to join the alliance. It would have made all the difference in destroying the Greeks, you shoulda been there.

What is the first part of your move ? It isn't showing in the log entry ?
863 1/8/2021 1:25:00 PM 309-297 BC Etruscan-Samnite Message I forgot the journal does not detail what a card played as an event does. That is a silly weakness.

Message from Etruscan-Samnite:
Using my Roman alliance and I will attempt to ever so slightly weaken Greece so their victory is merely stunning. Egnatius +10 CU from Bovianum to Maleventum to Neapolis. Greece can intercept at Maleventum.

Assuming Jeff does not intercept.

The second part of the move is MLA +6 CU to Capua to Naeplis to help with the attack.

Since I may not be online again for a couple of days, Jeff can resolve any combat. I will play my card I will use in the Neapolis attack if it happens. If he intercepts, I will not play it at the interception point.

852 1/7/2021 11:47:00 AM 309-297 BC Etruscan-Samnite Message I am offering Rome an alliance. I can hit Jeff with both stacks as I finally drew my campaign card. To do so I have to go through Capua. It is up to you, you can't go attack my Etruscans if we ally.

849 1/5/2021 7:48:00 PM 322-310 BC Greek Message I personally have LOVED this game, it is much better in person I agree. I wouldn't wish for anyone to continue and be that frustrated.

What could the 4 of us play that would be more suitable ? Napoleonic Wars perhaps or is there something else ?

I am open to anything and of course continuing play here.
848 1/5/2021 7:28:00 PM 322-310 BC Gaul Discard Strategy card #30: 3 / "their inexhaustible supply"

847 1/5/2021 7:28:00 PM 322-310 BC Gaul Message Gauls put 6 CUs, Brennus, and MLB in Bononia.

E/S goes first.
846 1/5/2021 6:22:00 PM 322-310 BC Gaul Message Last one, Ted--no, Rome doesn't need to be a naval power. Naval movement is useful to send a few troops to help an ally--for example, you could have sent a force down to help Carthage take things away from the Greeks, in this game. But it is fundamentally how you move around when the land routes are blocked.
845 1/5/2021 6:17:00 PM 322-310 BC Gaul Message To answer your other question, Ted--No, Potential doesn't really cost Greece anything. If it isn't a VP spot, the only thing that matters is whether Jeff can spend the loyalty to keep generals around. You took that away from him, but he's not weak enough elsewhere for it to matter.

844 1/5/2021 6:14:00 PM 322-310 BC Gaul Message Hey, Ted, I'm equally frustrated. I've never been a big fan of the game after several plays, but played to be playing with my Bloomington buds. I've often seen the Roman player confounded just like you are.
Generally, Rome has to come out swinging like the 800 pound gorilla, before anyone gets their defenses set up.
But this is also a game of diplomacy, and nobody had been diplomatizing. At all. I suggested at the beginning that Rick let me get through to Rome, he declined and attacked me--not saying Rick was wrong, my point is, that was the only diplomatic overture I've seen the entire game.
Without an alliance, Rome is basically playing 1 vs 2, 3 if Gaul jumps in. Also, without diplomacy, it's just a 4 player scrum on a oblong map.
843 1/5/2021 3:39:00 PM 322-310 BC Etruscan-Samnite Message Hey Rome, It is a frustrating game. Rome has to go all out at the beginning. You can either go after E/S or Greece, but do it ASAP. Greece has to worry about Carthage so he cannot concentrate entirely on you. Carthage gets 3 units per turn so they are strong (I don't recall the rule, do they still since you are aligned). Your first turn move was good, I was set to reinforce the volscii which I did to James and he never conquered them. I do think you were hurt by the siege lasting a long time, I haven't looked back but that is my memory that you lost some troops and time there. We didn't do a lot of negotiating, none that I know of, and that might have helped too. Take this for what it is worth, my VP's aren't any better.
842 1/5/2021 11:28:00 AM 322-310 BC Roman Message Rome puts 6 CU plus Laevinius un Rome
Veturius goes to Potentia
Done
841 1/5/2021 11:25:00 AM 322-310 BC Roman Message Carthage Joins War - May only be played after "Punic Envoys". Also the Greeks must control Lilybaeum and not be allied with you. Rome and Carthage are now allied (flip Punic Envoys marker).

Also I've had this card for four turns but can't play it due to its conditions. All the Greek has to do to keep Carthage out is not take Lilybaeum which Jeff with his card knwoledge knows not to do.

Really not grasping this game
840 1/5/2021 11:19:00 AM 322-310 BC Roman Message Did Greece lose anything for losing Potentia or was that a waste of Rome's time?
839 1/5/2021 11:18:00 AM 322-310 BC Roman Message Is Rome supposed to be a naval power?
838 1/5/2021 11:17:00 AM 322-310 BC Roman Message Not really understanding how the Romans can do anything against the Greeks when Neapolis is impregnable. I must have missed some aspect of the mechanics
837 1/4/2021 9:06:00 PM 322-310 BC Greek Message Ted,

Then Gaul is up and calls out first player for turn 7.

835 1/4/2021 4:16:00 PM 322-310 BC Etruscan-Samnite Message Yes, Spoletium and Arretium are iso and go to independant. And yes, that will eliminate bribes (technically the first action of next round be we can announce it now).

I've tried dividing the E/S forces "historically", but that sucks. All 4 to Tarquinii. I will also bring back Namasius to tarquinii from displaced leaders. So I have Nam +7CUs in Tarquinii. MLA +2CU in Pisae

Samnites have MLA +7 in Fregellae and Egnatius +10CU in Bovianum.

While we are at it, add a TA Gual to their box giving the MLA +3CU.
