737 7/24/2021 1:07:00 AM 203-201 BC Rome Message Sure thing, no rush. Just email me at davebliz.ssi@gmail when you want to start another.
take care and good luck in your trial.
736 7/23/2021 11:09:00 PM 203-201 BC Carthage Message I definitely would be interested in playing with you again, Dave, but I feel the need for a bit of a break first. Also, the trial I had that was postponed from early July is now set for early October, so that is looming as well.

I would be glad to take the Romans next time. It would be something to see you with Hannibal under your control!

735 7/23/2021 3:34:00 AM 203-201 BC Rome Message Jeff, congratulations and thanks for the game. Definitely lots of twists in the game. I tracked down Hannibal and just about killed him but he got slippery and got away. I spent a lot of resources tracking him down and didn't recover from that. I'll definitely keep the game around as long as you want. You interested in another?
734 7/21/2021 11:07:00 PM 203-201 BC Carthage Message Also, Dave, I think you control this game -- if so, could you not delete it out just yet? I'd like to print off some of the more memorable parts of the game journal.

733 7/21/2021 10:43:00 PM 203-201 BC Carthage Message Scipio loses 1 CU, and the Carthaginian CU at Enna is eliminated.

Turning to the Political Isolation phase, Rome goes first, and I believe the PCs in Mutina and Nuoro are both isolated and get removed. That then allows the Carthaginian PCs in Ariminium and Firmum Picenum, I think, to remain.

The Carthaginians therefore retain control of Samnium, so with Cisalpine Gaul, Corsica/Sardinia, Sicily, and Syracuse along with their home provinces, the final VP total is 13-5.

I definitely benefited from a wonderful hand of cards in that last turn.

Message from Carthage:
And then to final end-of-turn administration. I think the only spaces that are subject to attrition are:

Scipio (9 CUs) - Firmum Picenum
Carthage(1 CU)- Enna

731 7/21/2021 10:22:00 PM 203-201 BC Carthage Message On the 2 column, that is no losses!

So what's left of Hannibal's army, outnumbered 4-1, successfully repels two DE attempts by Scipio and then slips away to Sena.

And that, I believe, is the final twist in a game that has been full of them, all the way along. Dave, this has been one of the most memorable wargame experiences I have ever had. I thank you for being an understanding, patient, and encouraging opponent, even when my morale was at its lowest ebb.

Carthage: 8 cards
Rome: 15 cards
715 7/17/2021 2:55:00 PM 203-201 BC Carthage Message So we will have a battle. Maybe I should have drawn the cards first?

R = 9 + 4 + 2 = 15 BCs
C = 4 + 2 + 2 = 8 BCs.

Hannibal will attempt to avoid battle, and Scipio will attempt to pursue.
712 7/17/2021 2:52:00 PM 203-201 BC Carthage Message You are correct as to th1 1 PC. The always restive hilltown of Numantia, in distant Idubeda, sends its Carthaginian administrators and tax collectors packing.

711 7/17/2021 2:43:00 AM 203-201 BC Rome Play Strategy card as Operations #3: 3 / Numidia Revolts
(Both) Pick either Western or Eastern Numidia and remove all your opponent's PCs in that province which are not stacked with his CU's.

Message from Rome:
Officially you would have to remove a PC for Hannibal's loss of 2 CUs but it's a moat point.
Devastating loss for Romans.
BUT we will try to kill Hannibal with our last card.
Africanus and 7CUs move to Falerii and pick up 2CUs and head to Firmum Picenum to battle Hannibal and 2CUs.
Does Hannibal stay and fight or attempt to avoid battle. Africanus will pursue as long as he can.
710 7/15/2021 10:12:00 PM 203-201 BC Carthage Play Strategy card as Operations #4: 3 / Celtiberia Revolts

Message from Carthage:
Carthage's final card.

Remove Roman PCs and add Carthaginian PCs to Panormus, Lilybaeum, and Agrigento. Carthage now controls Sicily.
709 7/15/2021 10:09:00 PM 203-201 BC Carthage Message Ultimately, a rather narrow win for Scipio, under the circumstances.

Hannibal will retreat with his remaining 2 CUs to Firmum Picenum.

680 6/29/2021 9:11:00 PM 203-201 BC Carthage Message Hannibal will stand and fight.

Does Hannibal attempt to avoid battle?
If yes, Africanus will attempt to follow.
And continue until either we catch him or run out of movement points.
678 6/27/2021 9:29:00 PM 203-201 BC Carthage Play Strategy card as Operations #18: 2 / Traitor in Tarentum
(Both) If you use this card as an OC to siege Tarentum, it comes under your control without a Siege die roll. Enemy CUs inside are eliminated.

Message from Carthage:
You will get your chance.

I'll activate Hasdrubal in Sicily, who will move as follows:

- Leave 2 CUs in Agrigentum (now 7)
- Move to Enna: drops 1 CU (now 6)
- Moves to Panormus: drops 2 CUs (now 4)
- Moves to Lilybaeum.

677 6/21/2021 12:09:00 AM 203-201 BC Rome Message Gisgo and 1CU are removed.
Africanus does not lose any.
I'm glad that Hannibal didn't run away. You have this game won but it would be a nice ending to defeat Hannibal !

So I will remove PCs in:

Thapsus
Numantia

I regret now that I didn't take Hannibal and what was left of his army back over the Alps. But it seemed like such an inglorious ending.

Gisgo: 1 + 1 + 2 = 4
I'll deal cards and do first round

670 6/11/2021 11:47:00 PM 203-201 BC Carthage Message My apologies for the delay -- I'm now deep into pre-trial mode.

Gisgo will not attempt to evade, and Hannibal will not attempt to intercept.

669 6/2/2021 1:47:00 AM 203-201 BC Rome Play Strategy card as Operations #50: 3 / Adriatic Pirates
(Carthage) If you use this card as an OC for Sea Movement and carry no more than 3 CUs plus a General, you do not have to roll on the Naval Combat Table if you embark or debark at either Brundisium, Croton or Tarentum

Message from Rome:
Africanus and his 8CUs can smell blood.
They head to Verona and then to Mutina to battle Gisgo and 1CU.
First does Gisgo try to avoid battle?
Then if not, does Hannibal attempt interception?
668 6/2/2021 1:44:00 AM 203-201 BC Rome Message Not a problem, we have to handle the demands of life before we can play games.
Not that it matters but officially you have to remove 2 PCs for the battle loss.
No Varro will not attempt to intercept.

667 5/29/2021 11:04:00 PM 203-201 BC Carthage Message Again, uncomfortably close, but he makes it. He then advances with all 9 CUs to Agrigentum.

Message from Carthage:
Hasdrubal attempts a Naval Move from New Carthage to Lilybaeum with 9 CUs. DRM = -4 (-2 NC, -1 Syracuse, -1 Macedonian Alliance; the Roman PC is cancelled out by Lilybaeum's -1 port factor).

665 5/29/2021 5:15:00 PM 203-201 BC Rome Message Yes, definitely redo.
664 5/29/2021 1:55:00 PM 203-201 BC Carthage Message Actually, as I was driving into work after making my move, it occurred to me that Hasdrubal's attempted naval move to Croton wouldn't have been a DRM of -4 -2 NC, -1 Macedon Alliance, -1 Syracuse), but of -3 because of the -1 modifier for Croton having a Roman PC in it. Under those circumstances, I wouldn't have risked it because of the possibility of a SUNK result on a roll of 6.

Do you mind if I redo Part A of that move?

663 5/29/2021 11:33:00 AM 203-201 BC Carthage Message Close, but he makes it.

He drops 1 CU in Croton and advances with 8 CUs to Heraclea.

Move B: Hannibal, Gisgo and his 5 CUs advance from Boii to Mutina. He drops Gisgo and 1 CU there, and continues on to Ariminium with 4 CUs.

Will Varro attempt an interception?

Move A. Hasdrubal with 9 CUs will attempt a naval move from New Carthage to Croton.

660 5/25/2021 12:27:00 AM 203-201 BC Carthage Message And Hannibal and the remaining half of his army will retreat to Boii.

And it's late now, so I will head to bed and make my next move upon due consideration tomorrow.

659 5/25/2021 12:16:00 AM 203-201 BC Carthage Message The Battle of Insubres ends with a Roman victory, but it is not cost-free.

Hannibal: loses 5 CUs of 10; now 5 CUs.
Scipio: loses 2 CUs of 10; now 8 CUs.

As you probably deduced, I had a remarkably poor hand, the worst hand I have ever drawn in a battle in this game. Out of 17 cards, I had 7 Probes and 0 Reserves.

But it figured that after those lousy die rolls you had besieging Boii and Syracuse, karma was going to come around for me sooner or later.
