365 9/25/2020 11:55:00 PM 211-210 BC Carthage Play Strategy card as Operations #5: 2 / Native Guide
(Both) If you use this card as an OC to move an Army, and the Army crosses a Mountain Pass, you may modify your Mountain Pass Attrition die roll by -3.

Message from Carthage:
I will use this card to activate Hannibal, who will move with Hasdrubal, H. Gisgo, and their 5 CUs as follows:

MPs 1-2: cross the Alps to Allobroges (-3 DRM)
MP 3: to Gergovia
MP 4: to Averni

364 9/24/2020 1:08:00 AM 211-210 BC Rome Message Africanus has to stop at Boli so it's now your move.
363 9/23/2020 11:37:00 PM 211-210 BC Carthage Message And assuming that is correct, they will move off to Taurini. If you are still able to pursue, they would go to the Insubrians.

362 9/23/2020 11:30:00 PM 211-210 BC Carthage Message They succeed, and since Boii was your fourth space, I believe that means you can't pursue -- correct?

360 9/22/2020 1:56:00 AM 211-210 BC Rome Play Strategy card as Operations #60: 1 / Storms At Sea
(Both) Play after your opponent moves an Army or CUs using Sea Movement. The force suffers Attrition and the die roll must be modified by +2.

Message from Rome:
Roman Action #2
Africanus will attempt to get Hannibal while he's hurting.
Africanus and 9CUs leave Faesulae, head to Falerii, pick up the 1 CU there.
Onto Arim and then Mutina.
Does Hannibal attempt to intercept?
If not or unsuccessful, Africanus and 10CUs head to Boli for possible battle.
359 9/22/2020 1:46:00 AM 211-210 BC Rome Message Mago, with a -5 die modifier on sailing makes a safe trip. So Mago and 10 CUs at Dianiun.
358 9/20/2020 11:52:00 PM 211-210 BC Carthage Message B. Mago will do a naval move from Carthage to New Carthage with 6 CUs. If he arrives there without complications, he will pick up the 4 CUs there and move to Dianum.

357 9/20/2020 2:57:00 AM 211-210 BC Rome Message No interference from Roman. I could only interfere with a card as no chance to intercept.
Back to you for 2nd part of Campaign.
356 9/17/2020 10:39:00 PM 211-210 BC Carthage Message Oh, and for my two PCs, I'll remove the ones in Cordusa and Thamugadi.
355 9/17/2020 10:28:00 PM 211-210 BC Carthage Message OK. Thanks again very much for your patience.

After extended consideration in the face of an unpalatable situation, this is my revised move.

I'll still play the Minor Campaign card.

A. Hannibal will move with his 2 CUs across the Appenines to Boii (MPs 1-2); then will move with that force to Mutina, where he will pick up Hasdrubal and his 3 CUs; and then will return to Boii.

With a force of this size, even applying my previous roll of '6' for a mountain crossing by Hannibal, there will be no loss.

I'll wait to find out if you will interfere with that move before I activate my second leader.

354 9/5/2020 7:24:00 PM 211-210 BC Rome Message Jeff, not a problem. Focus on your filing ! and don't forget to remove two of your PCs. Good luck with the filing.
353 9/5/2020 7:14:00 PM 211-210 BC Carthage Message Actually, Dave, while I was sitting downstairs working on the filing I have to finish tonight, I just realized why that was a very stupid move.

Would you object to giving me a do-over?
352 9/5/2020 11:46:00 AM 211-210 BC Carthage Message Hannibal loses 1 CU.

Alps Crossings:

A. Hasdrubal.

B. Hannibal.

350 9/5/2020 11:43:00 AM 211-210 BC Carthage Play Strategy card as Event #39: 3 / Minor Campaign
(Both) MOVE ANY TWO GENERALS. Each General can move up to four spaces with 10 combat units.

Message from Carthage:
A. Hasdrubal with 3 CUs will move from Mutina with his 3 CUs, pick up H. Gisgo in Boii, and then move through Taurini and cross the Alps to Druentia.

B. Hannibal will depart Pisae with his 2 CUs, cross through Liguria, including a passage through the Maritime Alps, and finish in Nice.

349 9/4/2020 7:18:00 PM 211-210 BC Carthage Message Thanks, Dave. Your totals for the Carthaginian forces are correct. I'll remove the PCs and make my move tonight before going to bed. I've sort off fallen off the planet over the last ten days -- I've had to get deeply involved in a project that I'd thought a younger colleague would be able to handle. No disrespect to him -- it is a very challenging matter and I probably should have recognized that his experience level hadn't fully prepared him for it. It's requiring intense concentration even for me.

348 8/24/2020 4:06:00 AM 211-210 BC Rome Message Correct with the Roman generals and troops.
Here's what I have for Carthaginians.
Pisae - Hannibal and 2
Mutina - Hasdrubal and Gisgo and 3
Aleria - 1
New Carthage - 4
Carthage - Mago and Hanno and 10
Note that you have to remove 2 PCs for the battle loss.
347 8/23/2020 11:07:00 PM 211-210 BC Carthage Message I'm ready to proceed -- at least for a few more impulses -- but I want to make sure I correctly understand the game state in terms of the current placement of your units and leaders before I do. This is what I have:

Faesulae - Scipio with 9 CUs
Falerii - 1 CU
Rome - 5 CUs with Flaminius & Fabius

Plus your 3 CUs in Sardinia and Sicily.

346 8/9/2020 2:27:00 AM 211-210 BC Rome Message No rush Jeff, whenever you have an opportunity.
345 8/9/2020 12:05:00 AM 211-210 BC Carthage Message I'm back. We've been having to pack up and vacate our offices this week as part of an expansion/renovation.

Let me contemplate the situation further, and I'll move or concede tomorrow. (But I appreciate the encouragement!)

344 8/3/2020 11:00:00 PM 211-210 BC Rome Message Actually if Hannibal can get out of Italy alive, it's no easy task for Rome to win if Carthaginian player goes defensive. I've won many a game with Hannibal either dead or sitting back in Spain and forcing the Roman to come attack.
343 8/3/2020 10:39:00 PM 211-210 BC Carthage Message Hannibal loses 3 CUs, for a total of 4. So he's left with 2 CUs, and will retreat with those to Pisae.

I think the handwriting is pretty clearly on the wall at this point. However, give me a night and a day to see if the depression fades a bit, and then I'll let you know if I think there's any point in continuing.

The one thing I can say is that you have certainly shown me that even when things look very bad for the Roman player, you can still come back -- but it helps to be holding the Truce card in your hand and to have Scipio Africanus set to arrive shortly! Alas, I don't have anything similar to look forward to right now.

Carthage: 11 cards
Rome: 16 cards
324 7/29/2020 11:24:00 PM 211-210 BC Carthage Message No defender cards.

I was concerned that Longus could move that 1 CU around and start flipping spaces in Cisalpine Gaul, particularly if you had any campaign cards.

323 7/29/2020 12:56:00 AM 211-210 BC Rome Message Looks like Hannibal will battle.
Cards:
Han: 6 + 4 + 2 - 1 = 11
Africanus: 10 + 4 + 2 = 16
No attacker cards, what about defender?
Curious, how did the thought that Longus was at Mutina affect your play?

(Both) If you control the Balearic Islands, place one CU in any Port containing a friendly PC and no enemy CUs.

Message from Rome:
Roman Action #1
Africanus will push his advantage.
Africanus and 5CUs head to Rome, leaving 3CUs at Falerii.
Africanus picks up 3CUs at Rome, giving 8CUs.
Africanus heads back to Falerii and picks up 2CUs.
Africanus and 10CUs head to Faesulae to battle Hannibal.
So Rome now has 5CUs there, and Falerii has 1CU there.
What does Hannibal do?
318 7/27/2020 3:49:00 AM 211-210 BC Rome Message I did not have another Reserve card so if you had obtained the init and continued with FR, Africanus would have lost the battle.

317 7/26/2020 1:11:00 AM 211-210 BC Carthage Message I'll remove the PCs in Araceli and Druentia.

316 7/24/2020 1:48:00 PM 211-210 BC Rome Message I have family here for a few days so not sure when I'll do move.

293 7/17/2020 12:04:00 AM 211-210 BC Carthage Message I am in Maryland, just north of D.C. Our Governor has been excellent, and we had done reasonably well by the standards of many other states, but our young people now seem to be going unmasked more. Our number of new cases jumped from 400-something to around 750 in a single day earlier this week, so what had been a declining trend has now reversed itself.

You, unfortunately have a spy in your camp so I'll have a look at half of your cards.

286 7/15/2020 1:41:00 AM 211-210 BC Rome Message Yes, we have been very fortunate, a combination of luck and great leadership and a clear message to the masses. And most people complied. We are still taking it slowly opening up things and the message is still very clear, the virus is still here so we need to keep our distance.
285 7/15/2020 12:34:00 AM 211-210 BC Carthage Message P.S. I was reading today about your Covid-19 situation in B.C. It sounds like your province officials there have done a really wonderful job.

279 7/12/2020 6:42:00 PM 211-210 BC Carthage Message Your leaderless force gave a good account of itself, despite the 4-1 odds! Each of us loses 1 CU.

It occurred to me just after I played those two cards last night that I should probably have gone with a DE, in hopes of keeping the combat to a single round.

I have a book club meeting coming up, so I will execute the second part of my move later this evening.

And thanks for that pointer about the Campaign cards. That's coming back to me now.

As for our battle at Mutina, however, per Rule 14.3, I don't think you can get 2 BCs for allies if you don't have a General there. Am I missing something?
