603 9/1/2020 6:37:00 PM Sep-Dec 1944 Allies Message Hi Paul!

You played a great game and had early fantastic dice. I blundered in South East Asia thinking I could try to push overland. That as a big mistake.

I think you might have tried harder to take Rangoon but other than that I think your game was solid.

The end game takes practice, denying ports can be good, but at some point you're going to need the ground troops to garrison Japan. You did pull out the navy so that's good.

I think I had the better share of card luck. Tojo never made an appearance and Flight Instructors came one card too late. You can place 3 units on the map in Japan sure, but none of them can open a supply line to a resource hex until you move them. I would have gone first the following turn and it's hard to imagine I couldn't take care of three air units with a 7 card hand during Turn 11.

Depending on my game situation I wanted to try for isolation but if not landing in Japan in Turn 10 could have been a consideration but more likely I would saved Olympic into the FO. Though once the ISR was pulled from the discard and I decided to go for it. The dice were not kind to you there, only one of my carriers whiffed.

Thanks for the good wishes.

3 Air Replacements: The Japanese player receives 3 air replacement steps that may be used immediately or recorded as replacement steps for future use. Remove from play if used as an event.

Message from Japanese:
This is my last card but based on the current situation it is useless. You will always have last card so I can never open up a line to a resource hex with your carriers sitting in Sasebo and thus will eventually surrender due to blockade. SO concession is in order. Hard to say one blunder in this turn was more significant that a long list of earlier blunders but I probably could have worked this a little better. The eventual results would have been loss by getting all spaces on Honshu conquered instead of the blockade method.
I knew going in that from an end game experience point of view you are by far the better player so I was happy to go with the War in Europe plays when the deck decided to give them to me. Getting to an unusual situation offered some small hope. And I did manage to live in the Tojo zone for a turn or two. But here we are with both decks almost empty and still no Tojo card but you score Olympic and Coronet just when you needed it most. So I guess it was never in the cards as they say. However, I had fun and it was instructive. Still not sure how Japan survives by fighting harder earlier but others can do it so obviously I need to study a little harder. Congratulations on the victory and good luck in the next round.

594 8/31/2020 9:03:00 PM Sep-Dec 1944 Japanese Message OK Nachi flipped and only the 3M div is eliminated. Those are errors you will need to fix in the log file.
593 8/31/2020 9:01:00 PM Sep-Dec 1944 Allies Message At tainan the Allies have 26. The 1 with a +3 results in 13 hits. Nacho survives but flipped.
592 8/31/2020 8:52:00 PM Sep-Dec 1944 Allies Message Actually M Brigade is at full strength. You need to reduce it first.

So all reductions cost 16 hits...

You have 8 hits which allows you to eliminate either the Corps, the marine division or the M Brigade.

Basically two reduced ground units will survive.
591 8/31/2020 8:46:00 PM Sep-Dec 1944 Japanese Message If all is correct result at Sasebo is very bloody. JP does 200% for 24 hits which eliminates 3M Div and XIV Corp but the space is taken by M Bde.

For my emergency move Nachi goes to Tokyo. I will put together a log file.

Message from Japanese:
On South HQ as event for 6 units (I note that the special ability isn't really all that useful unless I am missing something. In most cases when you are out of supply you are also under lots of active enemy air ZOIs and you can't move through them. So would this card allow you to move an air unit to neutralize enemy air zones and then slip the ground units out? That would seem to require activation without a legal activation path. So I guess you need the unusual situation where units are cut off but not covered by ZOIs. Doesn't seem very likely but Mark usually has something specific in mind when he makes these things up so I am probably too dense to figure it out.)

South HQ for 6 as follows:
4AD Soerabaja to Kyoto
[9AD] Kendari to 2911

That is just unfair. Looks like both Washington an Mogami are eliminated. So you can't even do a soak off correctly, you are supposed to miss.

Now on to the landings at Samar/Leyte. Only one roll needed here and I get the +3DRM. I have been wildly successful so far, can that continue?

557 8/30/2020 9:04:00 AM Sep-Dec 1944 Japanese Message Your right. [Hancock] should be at Saipan. I had a bad day yesterday and can't offer an adequate explanation for my numerous errors. Hoping for greater accuracy today.
556 8/30/2020 12:22:00 AM Sep-Dec 1944 Allies Message Why is Hancock Eliminated?

You had 65 strength correct?

Kamikaze reduced both BB plus Hancock.

That left two full strength carriers.

28 hits reduced all units.

You used another 28 hits to remove two carriers

That's 56 hits... you have 9 left, not enough to sink another carrier.

544 8/29/2020 5:21:00 PM Sep-Dec 1944 Japanese Play Future Offensive card as Event #66: 2 / Kamikaze Attack
Play prior to one battle of the Offensive that is within 11 hexes of Tokyo (3706) and within extended range of a Japanese air unit. The Japanese player eliminates two Allied naval steps (Japanese player's choice, may not eliminate a unit unless there is no other option), while reducing the Japanese air unit whose range was used one step (even if this would eliminate the air unit). No more than one Kamikaze per battle, but more than one Kamikaze per offensive is allowed. Draw One Strategy Card. Remove from play if used as an event.

But you need to dump your Kamikaze into the discard pile. You put it as an FO.
541 8/29/2020 5:19:00 PM Sep-Dec 1944 Japanese Message If you want to reach out for a clarification feel free. I had the same worry but per the offensive sequence and the text I think I can move the air unit. I initially was thinking this was like the paratrooper card where you do need to drop before movement but that is specifically written into the card text so I assume Kamikaze is different.
540 8/29/2020 5:16:00 PM Sep-Dec 1944 Allies Message Actually... I take that back. Can you MOVE the air unit PRIOR to using the Kamikaze card? I always thought not. But maybe I'm wrong?
539 8/29/2020 5:14:00 PM Sep-Dec 1944 Allies Message Actually your move is ILLEGAL. Per the Kamikaze card:

"Play prior to one battle of the Offensive that is within 11 hexes of Tokyo (3706) and within extended range of a Japanese air unit."

There are NO Japanese air units within extended range of Pusan... (25 AF is 7 hexes away, too far)

so I get my three naval steps back.

(Also you played your Kamikaze Card as Future Offensive Card).

538 8/29/2020 4:25:00 PM Sep-Dec 1944 Japanese Message Sorry I have been a bit distracted today. I have 65 factors not 54! So I still have 17 hits to give out. Sink the remaining carrier. My log file was made before I was able to do simple arithmetic so I didn't eliminate the remaining carrier.
537 8/29/2020 4:03:00 PM Sep-Dec 1944 Japanese Message Both do 100%.
I flip the 2 carriers then eliminate them so Intrepid and Shangri La are sunk.

Sub Warfare Roll (0-6) (-10 +4)
525 8/28/2020 10:25:00 PM Sep-Dec 1944 Allies Message The fact that a reduced unit has bad odds at succeeding is an incentive for the US to keep them at full strength over any other air units and protect them.

To really interrupt strategic bombing you need to destroy the unit.

Place 36Army in Osaka
Place [39Army] in Tokyo
No replacements this time (probably an error).

I am confused by the strategic bombing rules. For sure you get one full strength roll but I am guessing you also can roll for the one that received replacements as a now full strength unit. Seems odd that if totally eliminated you can't bomb with it when it returns but if it is only reduced it makes no difference. Why would the US player ever not repair the B29 and make the roll with a reduced unit? So I will pass back to you for the 3 rolls needed (subs and B29s). This is probably all moot since I am virtually guaranteed to only get 4 cards and 2 passes. But I still have my +4 on subs and +1 on bombing so who knows what might happen.
