96 6/2/2020 6:17:00 PM Summer 1941 Allied Message I don't think so. The Axis aren't all that well established into the Soviet Union, so I don't think you will be in a position to claim the 20VP's before the Winter Turn. However, that all depends on whether or not I get the 2nd Soviet Front Reinforcement card.

Also, it depends on what cards you draw. And whether you play HITLER DECLARES WAR as the Event the first time through your deck.

Also, it depends if I can get the US in the War. If I can get FDR DECLARES WAR played next Turn, then the big Allied forces in the Total War deck start coming out in sooner rather than later.

So, it depends on a lot of different things, as the cards come out of the deck. No plan is perfect. If the Axis force the Allied player to play OPS and SR cards to counter the Axis moves, then they can't be playing the much needed Events and RP's.
95 5/31/2020 9:44:00 PM Summer 1941 Axis Message Does the 1 VP penalty if I play Tauifin as the event now severely hurt the chances of hitting 20 VP?
94 5/31/2020 8:36:00 PM Summer 1941 Allied Message Oops, I meant the Axis can win even "without" killing Stalin.
93 5/31/2020 8:21:00 PM Summer 1941 Allied Message Moscow is a definite. The Axis can still win even with killing Stalin.

Don't forget, there are a couple of VP's spaces down in North Africa that are easily attainable as well. But most players don't bother with North Africa in the first few Turns. Could be worthwhile if you see the Allies play DESERT ARMY for OPS instead of the Event.

In general, even if you don't get to 20 VP's, the more damage you do now will make it that much harder for the Allies to come back later in the game. Especially if you see FDR DECLARES WAR and US BUILDUP in the Discard Pile.
92 5/31/2020 6:19:00 PM Summer 1941 Axis Message Do the Axis generally need to take Moscow and Stalin to hit 20 VPs?
91 5/31/2020 1:31:00 PM Summer 1941 Allied Message Tough call. There are still 14 cards in your Draw Pile, so there is no guarantee that you get OKW CONFERENCE.

Its rare that you have not played a 5OPS card yet, which means you will probably get a few next Turn. Usually the Axis player is playing nothing but 4OPS and 5OPS cards, putting so much pressure on the Allies that he can not defend everywhere. This will allow an Axis player to surround Moscow and put it OOS, conquering it during the Attrition Round. Therefore you don't even need to play TAIFUN.

However, that doesn't happen every game, so there is time that the Axis player needs to actually attack Moscow. And decide whether or not to sacrifice the 1VP if he doesn't have OKW played beforehand.

This is why I SR'd Joe out of Moscow. The next time I play a SR round, Joe will be sent to the mountains in the Urals, and safely out of harm's way. That will save a possible loss of 4VP's.

It will hurt me, as I get 1 less Soviet RP's each time I play a RP card, and some Yellow Event cards won't work for me. But it is the price I play for not losing 4VP's, which cold decide the game.
90 5/31/2020 11:09:00 AM Summer 1941 Axis Message So am I saving Tauifin for next turn in hopes of getting OHK Conference next turn as well or am I playing it this turn for OPs?
89 5/31/2020 9:00:00 AM Summer 1941 Allied Message After you blow away the SUa in Vyazma and the (SUa) in Roslav-Yelna, my front line is wide open.

I will have to pull back the LEN Front and the SUa in Velikiye-Luki in order to protect them.

Similarly, I will have to pull back the CEN Front and the SW MECH Front in order to piece together a front line down south.

The Soviets have lots of hole to fill. The German Panzers with a 5MF can easily put cities and units OOS.
88 5/30/2020 11:03:00 PM Summer 1941 Axis Message So I definitely think I should go after the SCUs in Vyrzma and Roslav Yenka.

After that, hit Gomel, hit Lenningrad front, move into Kiev?

3. The GE PZ 1 in Pisnsk to Zhitomer to join the attack
79 5/30/2020 11:06:00 AM Summer 1941 Allied Message Yes. You will definitely eliminate the (RES) Front, which only a 1/6 chance of getting hit back.

And depending on how well you do at Kiev, you have a chance of putting the CEN Front in Gomel OOS.
78 5/29/2020 10:23:00 PM Summer 1941 Axis Message Im thinking of hitting Smolensk and Kiev. That make sense?
77 5/29/2020 8:11:00 PM Summer 1941 Allied Play Strategy card as Strategic Redeployment #9: 4 / US Build-up

73 5/29/2020 8:01:00 PM Summer 1941 Allied Message Germans win, 3/1.

Eliminate the SUa. No loss to Germans.

Axis unit may trace full supply across SR lines to Tripoli/Tunis this turn. May place 1 combat or Move marker.

Message from Axis:
1. The (GE 9) in Tailan attack Narva

2. The GE 4 in Orsha Mog attack Smolensk

3. The GE PZ 3 and GE Pz 4 from Vilna move to Orsha Mog to join the attack

No CCs
70 5/27/2020 10:16:00 PM Summer 1941 Allied Message I would hit Smolensk.

The Soviets can use the swamp terrain in Pskov to cancel the retreat, which means there will be no German advance.

There is more freedom for after combat advance in Smolensk, since the Soviets can't cancel the retreat.
69 5/27/2020 10:04:00 PM Summer 1941 Axis Message I want to use a 3 Op card

One of the OPs is to move the panzers in Vilna

Im thinking a second Op to hit Narva

Do you like the idea of hitting Smolensk or Pskov

68 5/27/2020 9:36:00 PM Summer 1941 Allied Message All depends. If I have a chance to get Stalin in Moscow, then I'll use it even if I haven't played OKW.

But, it is also good to play as a Spring Thaw Event.
67 5/26/2020 11:27:00 PM Summer 1941 Axis Message So with Taufin do you play it for Ops or hold it until OKH comes up?
66 5/26/2020 10:25:00 PM Summer 1941 Allied Message Same with Smolensk. The addition of the Front, even if it gets vaporized, will be replaced with a SUa and leave another road block for the Germans. And with a little luck, I will be able to flip a German Army or two. Which will make further attacks by the Germans a little less lethal.

As for Narva, I sacrificed the SUa there in order to play the Reinforcement card. I did that because of the terrain. The Germans can only advance into Narva, but no farther. And the need to garrison Leningrad isn't as great, as you have already played NORDLICHT.
65 5/26/2020 10:21:00 PM Summer 1941 Allied Message Not too much. It was either move the SUa's away from the front line, or bolster them with Fronts. I chose the latter, hoping I can flip a few German Armies when they try to attack them. The Soviets can't stop the Germans in Turns 1-3, but I can try to prevent them from reaching to far into the Soviet Union, and flip a few Armies in the process.

As for Odessa and Kiev, if you try to swing panzer units into the attack on them, even if you give me 6 hits, there will be still be two units there after the attacks. Those two units can fan out to block two different lanes of advance.
64 5/25/2020 10:15:00 PM Summer 1941 Axis Message So does your placing those fronts change any thinking from the Axis point of view.
63 5/25/2020 8:15:00 PM Summer 1941 Allied Play Strategy card as Event #2: 4 / Soviet Reinforcements
Place Don, Stalingrad, Steppe, & Voronezh Fronts. Place 4x Armies ==> RB

Message from Allied:
ALLIED #2

Place the DON Front in Odessa.

Place the STALINGRAD Front in Kiev.

Place the STEPPE Front in Moscow.

Place the VORONEZH Front in Dnepropetrovsk.

Put 4 x SUa into the RB [7.0].
62 5/24/2020 9:31:00 PM Summer 1941 Axis Play Strategy card as Event #12: 3 / Nordlicht
Axis units may attack Leningrad. Axis unit may only attack Leningrad this round. PREREQ: May not be played during Spring Thaw.

Message from Axis:
Move (GE 9) from Insterberg to Tallin

Move GE 17 ftom Tarn ow through Lwow to Zhitomer

Move GE 2 and GE PZ corp from Vienna to Slovkia
61 5/24/2020 8:19:00 PM Summer 1941 Allied Message Correct. Most people play NORDLICHT as the Event as soon as they get it in their hand, even if they are no where close to Leningrad.
60 5/24/2020 7:51:00 PM Summer 1941 Axis Message So I can play Nordlict I can only attack Leningrad this round but then for the rest of the game I can attack Leningrad, correct?
59 5/24/2020 3:02:00 PM Summer 1941 Allied Message There are no Soviet units in Zhitomir, I moved it out last Turn.

But yeah, lots of options for the Germans. In general, I would attack any available SUa's. And then look to put any Soviet Fronts OOS, rather than attacking them head-on.
58 5/21/2020 11:26:00 PM Summer 1941 Axis Message So this action round I can :

Attack Pskov, Smolensk, and Gomel (two out of the three)

Attack Odessa and Zhitomer and then put Vittsmer and Kishinev OOS

Try to get the guys from Vienna more east.
57 5/21/2020 10:34:00 PM Summer 1941 Allied Message Galatz definitely. Yassi, not so much.

The key is moving and attacking with the Panzer units. For example, last Action Round, an option would have to put a move marker on Vienna instead of Brest-Litovsk. The GE (2nd) would move to Tarnow to join the GE 17th, and the GE pzc would have gone to Kovel to join in the attack. It did have a 1/6 chance of getting flipped. On the advance, the GE 6th woudl have gone into Tarnopol-Rovno, the GE pzc would have gone into Pinsk, and the GE 1Pz would have options. It could have gone to Minks to join the GE 2Pz, or gone to Vilna to join GE 3Pz and 4Pz, or go into Pinsk with the GE pzc.

Next Action Round, the GE 1Pz and GE pzc could have been send to Yassi and join a combat marker there. The (SUa) would have been auto-eliminated. The RO (4th) walks into Odessa. The GE pzc goes to Cherkassi. The GE 1Pz goes to Uman. And now the SOUTH Front in Kishinev and the SW MECH Front in Vinnitsa are now OOS.
56 5/20/2020 11:02:00 PM Summer 1941 Axis Message So at some point during this turn the units in Yassi and Galatz need to attack?
55 5/20/2020 10:50:00 PM Summer 1941 Allied Play Strategy card as Operations #16: 5 / Sledgehammer

54 5/20/2020 10:22:00 PM Summer 1941 Axis Message GE 6 to Tarnopol

53 5/20/2020 10:17:00 PM Summer 1941 Allied Message Both attacks are autokills.

Your call for German advances.
52 5/20/2020 10:00:00 PM Summer 1941 Axis Message Ok, I'll go with your recommendation.
51 5/20/2020 9:13:00 PM Summer 1941 Allied Message That move would work. My only though is not activating Vilna. Instead I move the GE 4th from BRest-Litovsk up to Orsha-Mogilev. That leaves the two Pz Armies in Vilna several options where to attack next Action Round.
50 5/19/2020 7:51:00 PM Summer 1941 Axis Play Strategy card as Operations #6: 4 / Panzer Refit
Flip any 3 reduced strength Pz units (Army or corps) to their unreduced sides. No space containing an affected Pz unit may be activated this round. PREREQ: May not be played during Spring Thaw.

Message from Axis:
Ok, lets try this

Move GE 16 from Courland to Riga

Move GE 18 from Kaunus to Dvinsk

Move GE Pz 3 from Vilna to Bobruisk
Move GE PZ 4 from Vilna to Orsha Mog

GE 6 in Kovel attacks Tarnopol
GE PZ 1 attacks Pinsk

Do you like that?
49 5/19/2020 7:30:00 PM Summer 1941 Allied Message Yeah, definitely put Armies in Riga and Dvinsk to threaten the SUa's in Tallinn, Pskov and Vitebsk. The same can be said for Orsha-Mogilev and Bobruisk.

Attack Marker on Kovel to eliminate the SUa's in Pinsk and Tarnopol-Rovno.

And then look to move units up. The two units in Vienna, the GE 17th in Tarnow, etc.

You want to make it tough on me to play my Reinforcement card, or to play a card for RP's.

23 5/18/2020 7:46:00 PM June 1941 Allied Message Also, the attack on the SUa in Courland is an autokill. I assume the GE 16th Army advances into Courland.
22 5/18/2020 12:34:00 PM June 1941 Axis Message Ok letís advance both the 6 th army and P 1 and then attack and advance into Odessa
21 5/18/2020 12:28:00 PM June 1941 Allied Message Much of the German strategy in the first few Turns is not just attacking in the current Action Round, but setting up attacks for the next Action Round. The Soviets will spend every OPS point retreating, so getting Axis units up against Soviet units is the key.

The more Soviet units that are allowed to escape, the better for the Soviets. Those SUa are critical to pluggin holes in the lines, and garrisoning cities. Remember, you can't attack Leningrad until you play the NORDLICHT Event, but you can always cruise into it na dcapture it if the Soviet player leaves it empty. Same with Moscow and the FALL BLAU spaces.
20 5/18/2020 12:24:00 PM June 1941 Allied Message Lots of options.

Attack just the SUa in K, and advance both GE 6th Army and GE 1st Pz into the space. I wouldn't worry about the SW MECH Front going crazy behind the lines. It would be easy to cut off, and it is much valuable around Kiev trying to make a Soviet front line. However, it does allow the SW MECH to move first into Lublin, removing the SF Marker at no VP penalty, and then allow it to go Zhitomir or Vinnitsa.

Or, you could advance just the GE 6th Army into Kovel, thereby forcing the SW MECH to fight its way out. However, this will leave the 1st PZ further back, and requiring another OPS point to activate it next Turn, rather than have it on the front line combined with the GE 6th where they could attack both Pinsk and Tarnoplo-Rovno at the same time.

Or just attack the SW MECH in Lwow. The two German Units would be on the 10A->>5A, but with the +drm you are guaranteed to flip the SW MECH.

Or if you spend the last COMBAT Marker on Tarnow, then you have 15A->>9A, +drm, which gives you a 33% chance of eliminating the SW MECH. But this leaves the Yassi double-OPS activation in place for the future, and leaves Odessa untouched.
19 5/18/2020 11:23:00 AM June 1941 Axis Message So I guess now the question is Lubin.

I assume you want to have the GE 6 take out and advanced into Kovel but then what would the armor do.

Maybe better to put that last attack marker on Tarnow and have the the Pz1 from Lubin participate?
18 5/17/2020 10:22:00 PM June 1941 Axis Message Flip GE 9, and leave in Insterberg

14 5/17/2020 11:59:00 AM June 1941 Allied Message Turn 1, June 1941, is a special single Action Round for both players. You must play either BARBAROSSA or VON PAULUS PAUSE.

STUKA is a Yellow Event card, it is not a CC. As the card states, you can play it on Summer and Fall Turns in 1941-43.

The Axis only have two CC's in their BLITZKRIEG deck, both of which can only be used in North Africa.
13 5/16/2020 8:53:00 PM June 1941 Axis Message Can I play Stuka this turn?
12 5/15/2020 11:49:00 PM June 1941 Axis Message OK, lets put the GE 1 in Calais and the GE 7 in Reims

When I was maping out my opening move I was debating between what you suggested or hitting the SW Mech army hard because how valuable it is.

I think I like what you suggest plus going after Odessa just to make RU react.

I'll put the SF where you suggest.
11 5/15/2020 11:22:00 PM June 1941 Allied Message The WEST Front in Bialystok is now OOS and will be eliminated if it is now back in supply by the end of the round. The Soviets "could" try to this, but OPS are valuable, and they will probably not waste an OPS point or two trying to save it. They will be busy trying to plug holes and conserving what ever forces they have left.

10 5/15/2020 11:18:00 PM June 1941 Allied Message Just looking at the north, COMBAT Markers will be placed on Memel, Insterberg, and Warsaw.

Warsaw will attack first. The GE 2Pz and GE 4th (but not the GEc) attack the SUa in Brest-Litovsk. This is an autokill. The GE 4th advances into Brest-Litovsk, and the GE 2Pz advances to Minsk.

The GE 9th and GE 3Pz from Insterberg, plus the GE 18th and GE 4Pz from Memel attack the NW Front in Kaunas. With the +1drm for the Event, the Germans are guaranteed to win this combat. What's ever left of the Soviets retreat to Dvinsk. The GE 9th stays in Insterberg. The GE 18th advances into Kaunas. The GE 3Pz and 4Pz advance into Vilna.

The GE 16th autokills the SUa in Courland and advances in.
9 5/15/2020 11:04:00 PM June 1941 Allied Message I usually place my SF markers on Lwow, Kolomyja, and Kishinev.
8 5/15/2020 11:03:00 PM June 1941 Allied Message With BARBAROSSA, I usually put 4 of the 5 COMBAT markers on the four spaces with a GE Pz Army. The remaining COMBAT marker either goes on Yassi, Galatz or Tarnow.

You would put it on Tarnow so they can attack the SW MECH Front.

You would put it on Yassi to attack the SUa in Chernovitsi so you can advance the GE (11th) into the space, and therefore split the German and Romanian Armies, making it easier to activate them in the future.

Some people like to attack Odessa on Turn 1, making an opening down south.

7 5/15/2020 10:58:00 PM June 1941 Allied Message The Attacker 1L (as well as 2L for Level-2) is still in effect with Barbie.
6 5/15/2020 10:56:00 PM June 1941 Allied Message SF Markers force you to try and fight your way out if you want to move.

The German Armies are usually placed in Calais and Rheims.
5 5/15/2020 10:45:00 PM June 1941 Axis Message So stand fast markers basically force your opponent to stay put. If he retreats on his own it costs him a VP.

Barbarossa card basically eliminates all trench effects?
4 5/15/2020 9:29:00 PM June 1941 Axis Message So any thoughts on where to put the GE armies in France?

So exactly how do the standfast masters work?
3 5/15/2020 9:27:00 PM June 1941 Axis Draw Strategy cards Drew 7 to replenish hand to 7 cards.
2 5/15/2020 8:53:00 PM June 1941 Allied Message Draw cards, and pick whether you are going to take Barbie or VPP.

Then place your GE (1st) Army and GE (7th) Army somewhere in France

Place the three Stalin Stand Fast Markers on any Soviet units adjacent to an Axis unit.

And then start us off...
