249 7/12/2020 4:27:00 PM Fall 1862 Confederate Message Good move on your part. I'll have to think about my response.
248 7/12/2020 10:48:00 AM Fall 1862 Union Play Strategy card as Event #59: 2 / Farragut
Union may make a naval more with up to three SPs plus one general. Move may pass one ungarrisoned fort without ďrunning the gunsĒ to conduct an amphibious assault (may not pass an ironclad). Ignore first torpedo encountered during naval move. If the port space is captured it immediately receives a Union PC marker. Add +2 to Running the Guns die roll.

Message from Union:
6U6 Event

Baltimore:
Hooker and 3sp (leaving 2sp) will embark and make an unopposed amphibious landing at Savannah, Ga. Per the card no run the guns needed and the port immediately becomes union controlled and a PC placed.

Per 6.84 Ft. Pulaski also switches to union control immedately.
247 7/12/2020 10:09:00 AM Fall 1862 Union Message I get a break and manage to slip away from you attack. That ends you move atop a union PC and the AoC effectively moves to 8SP as it absorbs the 2sp in Cairo.

Get you a move before long. Need to have breakfast.

Message from Union:
This roll to see if the AoC can avoid this large battle and I need a 1 or 2.
I considered you might attack but not with the AoM and not in the large category so you surprised me there. Iím considering this game hopeless now but want to play longer to see what I might be able to do.
245 7/11/2020 8:58:00 PM Fall 1862 Union Message Iíll try to retreat before combat but not tonight, Iím heading to lay down. Roll it out if you wish.
244 7/11/2020 8:33:00 PM Fall 1862 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #92: 2 / Baltimore Revolts
Confederate may place a friendly PC marker in Baltimore, MD, if the space is vacant.

Message from Confederate:
6C5: Not likely to get to play this as an event so I'll use it for OPS.
Activate Jackson and the AoM at Bowling Green. He will take all 6 SPs and all generals and move:
1. Clarksville
2. Dover where he picks up 1 SP leaving 1 in the fort (now 7)
3. McKenzie
4. Humboldt where he picks up 3 SPs from the AoT and picks up Morgan's cavalry but drops off Stuart's cavalry (now 10 in AoM) (3 in AoT)
5. Columbus, Ky where he picks up 4 SPs from the fort but leaves Forrest's cavalry (now 14 in AoM)
6. Paducah to battle Pope's army of Cumberland. You can try to avoid battle (rolling 1-2) or stay and fight. This will be a large battle with +6 for Confederates using Jackson, Morgan and Smith and +2 for Union using Pleasonton (you only get 1 general since Jackson's rating is higher than Pope's). If you stay and fight it looks like a 100% chance of a Confederate victory with 4 or 5 Union losses vs 3 or 4 Confederate losses. This puts Dover fort in a little jeopardy but I can intercept there on a 1-5 roll.
243 7/11/2020 4:07:00 PM Fall 1862 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #100: 3 / Shiloh
Confederate Player may move 5 SPs using Strategic Movement (rail connections only) to the same space with a Confederate General who is then activated and must attempt to enter a space with at least one or more Union SPs or fort. If a general casualty occurs in a battle caused by this card, the Commanding General is eligible, this is an exception to the rules. See 4.5.

Message from Union:

Parkersburg & Fremont

Activate Fremont & his 1sp and move to Grafton and pick up 1sp of the 3sp there. He now has 2sp.

Move to Weston & pick up that sp = 3sp now

Move to Charleston and pick up 1sp there = 4sp now.

Move back to Parkersburg and then on to Jackson, Washington, then Cincinnati where he will drop 2sp. He has 2sp now.

Then to Veron and stop.

So:
Grafton has Banks and 2sp
Cincinnati has 2sp
Vernon has 2sp & Fremont

242 7/11/2020 11:24:00 AM Fall 1862 Confederate Play Strategy card as Event #24: 3 / Pre-War Treachery

241 7/11/2020 7:27:00 AM Fall 1862 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #93: 2 / Strategy Board

Cairo - Activate the AoC at 11sp. Leave 2sp in Cairo (9sp now) and move to Ironton and drop 2sp there. (7sp Now). Back to Cairo and up to Jonesborough and drops 1sp there. (6sp now). Back to Cairo and then to Paduch with 6sp and use last mp to covert Paduch to union control.

2sp at Ironton
1sp at Jonesbourough
6sp in AoC

Of course, you have the option to intercept at Paducah.

Sorry I didnít get a move or note to you last night. I got a bit sick after supper and went to lay down a bit. Fell asleep and woke when it was time to go to bed. Stomach queasy this morning and tired but better than last night. Not sure what it was...
240 7/10/2020 12:34:00 PM Fall 1862 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #46: 1 / Pro Union Secessionist in Tennessee
Union receives two PC markers in any Pro-Union space in Tennessee free of Confederate SPs and forts.

Message from Confederate:

239 7/9/2020 7:18:00 PM Fall 1862 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #17: 3 / CSA Purchasing Agent
Confederate immediately receives three SPs in any open Blockade Runner Port, no more than one SP per port, but more than one SP per Blockade Zone is permitted. If insufficient ports are available, the excess SPs are lost.

238 7/9/2020 7:05:00 PM Fall 1862 Union Return Strategy card to hand #93: 2 / Strategy Board

Message from Union:
The oops play in Dover fiasco...sorry. Went brain dead.
237 7/9/2020 5:54:00 PM Fall 1862 Confederate Message Nice try but "A Confederate fort in Dover will prohibit the Union from crossing the Tennessee into Dover from either Paducah or McKenzie." 6.26 B.
236 7/9/2020 5:02:00 PM Fall 1862 Union Message I actually rolled higher than you for a change!

Forgot to mention this is a medium battle.

You have a total of 3 result which inflicts 1sp loss to the AoC which drops it to 9sp.

I end up at 10 on the table and inflict a 3sp loss which eliminates the force of 2 there and subsequently eliminates the fort also.

There is no leader loss check due to force modifier.

I will spend my 4th mp to convert Dover to union control and then return to Paducah leaving 2sp in Dover which drops the AoC to 7sp and when returning to Paducah I add back the 1sp I left there giving the AoC an 8sp strength.

6U3. 2 OPS

Activate the AoC and move to Paducah and drop 1 sp there. Spend 1mp to convert to union control. (-2mp).

Continue to Dover (-3mp) to attack at 10 to 2 or 5 to 1 odds which provides a +4 dr to my attack. I also add +3dr for my three generals for a total of 7dr adds.

South defends with a +2 dr.

There is no interception, etc., so I will roll it out.
233 7/9/2020 10:53:00 AM Fall 1862 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #67: 2 / J.B. Eads, Riverine Ironclads

5. Baltimore - Butler to AoP

6. Harperís Ferry - Banks to Grafton & the 3sp there.

8. AoC - Curtis to St. Louis

As I moved these I made sure the PR of the generals was accounted for.
229 7/8/2020 5:13:00 PM Fall 1862 Confederate Message If this general was the same ranking or lower than the highest non-commanding general in the army then you could pick him up and drop him off during the same army move.
228 7/8/2020 5:11:00 PM Fall 1862 Confederate Message This section is in 5.22 at the end of the section. Since the corp would be incorporated into the army if picked up then this higher rated general would become the highest ranking non-commanding general in the army at that time. Then, I think he couldn't be dropped off during the same move. This is the wording of section 5.22.
"The highest ranking non-commanding general in an Army may not leave the Army either by being dropped off or with a Corps move. The only way to remove the highest ranking non-commanding general from the Army is through the use of an event card or General Casualty. However, due to the introduction of new generals into an Army or relieving the commanding general, the highest ranking non-commanding general in an Army could change."
227 7/8/2020 4:56:00 PM Fall 1862 Confederate Message Sorry, I didn't see your move until just now. For some reason, it didn't go into my e-mail normal account. It went into the promotions section of e-mail which I don't normally look at except once a day.
In answer to your question, 5.35 seems to indicate that a corp would be incorporated into the army if picked up but it does not particularly have your case specified. 5.36 talks about detaching a corp move from an army and it cannot be the commanding general or the general with the highest political rating who is not the Army's commanding general. I'll look some more into the game errata.
226 7/8/2020 7:49:00 AM Fall 1862 Union Message I am going to move some generals around and it bings a question to mind in placing one and my intentions for a subsequent move.

1. An army moves and picks up a corps and wishes to drop it in another space and continue itís move. The corps general has a higher political rating than the current 2nd in command of the army. When the drop off occurs does the higher rated general now have to stay with the army?

Iím thinking he doesnít because he didnít start the move with the army. I canít find the answer but I may have missed it. I looked at 5.65 & 5.66 but it didnít say. I looked at 5.35 on corps moves and it lead me to believe he could because of not starting with the army. What do you think?

I have my move figured out other than this little snag and then I will send it.
225 7/7/2020 7:38:00 PM Fall 1862 Union Message I have to think things over and my head hurts, my eyes are tired, and Iím tired. Tomorrow...

Youíre right typing up the board position is a lot of work but with my being prone to miss things itís necessary and I figure itís mainly my problem so I should do it. I think in the past weíve even did our own sides but Iím good with this. You normally do the turn wrap up and that too is busy work but needed.

Itís nice playing someone who does not try to slip something by and Iíve had good luck with that to date. Iíve always been afraid that my mistakes would make someone who didnít know me think I was cheating. Marc Charisse and I did real well on trusting also. I have reconnected with him and plan to play him after this game. Iím trying to decide if I can handle two pbm at once. Iím having trouble now with this game, woodworking, and trying to play solitaire and do piano too. Also time for Janet and I do most of things around the house with her health so my day gets pretty tied up.

I would like to play this as the North again and then try the South. IF we ever get back to Tennessee as we plan maybe we will be able to ftf again and move things faster.

216 7/7/2020 11:42:00 AM Summer 1862 Union Message Turn 6 Union Strategic Movement

Washington has 12sp there.
3sp from there to AoC @ Cairo = 11sp in AoC now.
2sp from there to Grafton with McClellan & his 1sp = 3sp now.
That leaves 7sp at Washington.

My general placements:
Resurrected Stoneman to AoT which leaves the sp count the same as itís an army. I guess it only matters if itís a corps or he leaves the army.

Hooker to Frederick which makes him part of the AoP now.
215 7/7/2020 11:05:00 AM Summer 1862 Union Message Turn 6 Union Reinforcements:

First the 1sp on the turn track from Stonemanís demise. This is an extra best I can tell and has no placement restriction. I will put it in the AoC in Cairo which brings that force to 4sp.

8sp to Washington = 12 sp there now.

Central - +6sp to UAoT = 9sp now and drops my rail to 9 left.

West - 4sp to AoC bringing it up to 8sp now. No charge against rail since itís in the placement boundary.

Strat move to come soon.
214 7/7/2020 8:35:00 AM Summer 1862 Union Message I concur on your feedback on board position. Mental error on the AoC strength and I read the fort from across the board. It was late for me.

Sorry on the Strat Will. I wish they had a third 10ís space marker. You have to work around it or write it down. Something like 118 does not fit the two they give you. I may make one.

Iíll do my reinf after some study and maybe after my shower!
213 7/6/2020 9:41:00 PM Summer 1862 Confederate Message Overall strength at the end of Summer 1862:
Union 30 SPs
Confederates 39 SPs thanks to two good reinforcement cards and some good battle outcomes. However, reinforcements will even things up somewhat and the South is really spread out.
212 7/6/2020 9:38:00 PM Summer 1862 Confederate Message Wow, the end turn summary is a lot of work and you did a good job. Just a few corrections and clarifications:
1. Columbus, Ky has a fort as well as the 2 CSPs and CPC.
2. At Cairo, your Army of Cumberland had 4 SPs before attrition (not 5) and drops down to 3 SPs. See logs 191 & 193. It took up the last SP from Cairo making 7 SPs before that last battle at Paducah and lost 3 SPs down to 4 before retreating back to Cairo. So after attrition it should now be at 3 SPs. (which is better then my AoT with 2).
3. Fort Monroe with 1 CSP should be Fort Morgan off of Mobile.
4. Fayetteville, Ark should show 1 CSP
5. Confederate Strategic will dropped from 118+ to 110- (not 101-) for West Virginia.
And just for clarification:
All of West Virginia is now Union and a Union border state.
All of Missouri is Confederate except Ironton and St. Louis and still Confederate.
Kentucky is still up in the air but leaning toward the Union occupiers with 6 places to the Confederate 3.
If you agree to these clarifications and corrections then go ahead and do your reinforcements for the Fall 1862.

211 7/6/2020 9:08:00 PM Summer 1862 Union Message I forgot:

The blockade and amphib levels are at 1.
Your SW -101
Union SW +81

Do you want to list army generals?

Note - When a state changes control I donít put markers in all the spaces. I show state conversion with the special flag markers and only show something taken by the opponent suc as at Knoxville.

Note - I just realized that I failed to up the UAoT to 4sp when I retreated there. So, it did attrit from 4 to 3. I also have that 1sp on turn 6 to come in when Stoneman was displaced.

Let me know if you have differences. I verified this once quickly so check me as I know you will. When weíre square Iíll do my reinf and strat move.
209 7/6/2020 8:41:00 PM Summer 1862 Union Message I have one correction.
When Stoneman left I failed to drop the AoT 1sp and place a sp on the turn track.

So the UAoT was at 2sp strength, not 3 at turns end so it had no attrition. So I have a union 1sp and Stoneman ready to return on turn 6.

207 7/6/2020 6:35:00 PM Summer 1862 Confederate Message Thanks for doing the rolls and especially the general rolls but Stoneman's loss is not a problem for you since he comes right back. Check out my loss factor. You rolled a 3 for the Union and with +4 drm (you only get one more general since Jackson's battle number is much higher then Burnside) the result would be a 2 and not a 3. So Conf Army of Miss would be down to 3 factors. Not a big deal because I will lose the extra factor anyway due to attrition. I was really hoping you would roll a 1 or 2 so I would only lose 1 factor.
206 7/6/2020 4:56:00 PM Summer 1862 Union Message Well, I keep getting screwed by the die. Stoneman is killed and is placed on the game track to return on turn 6. The AoT drops from 3sp to 2sp with the cavalry loss.

I will get back to this later for the wrap up unless you beat me. Supper is ready.

South wins the battle with an effective 10 and I had an 8 with my 3 adds. We both lose 3sp and the AoM drops to 2sp and the uAoT drops to 3sp. I retreat to Lebanon and you take Bowling Green and the fort is eliminated.

South has 6 adds to the Northís 5. First roll is the Southís.
201 7/6/2020 2:08:00 PM Summer 1862 Union Message You did not comment on the 1 mulligan for in 1 hour that I proposed. What do you think?

Mulligan aside I should have tried to intercept, or maybe so. It could benefit me now but if you got a campaign card next round you could cut me off with Longstreet. Of course, if I did, and you won, Iíd bounce back to BW, stop your advance, and be in great shape...oh the tough decisions! :0

That said I will live with my decision. Just hope you roll low and I high!
200 7/6/2020 1:54:00 PM Summer 1862 Union Message Dan, I looked at this and I will not attempt to intercept. Maybe I can get a better roll than you at BW.

Iím elbow deep in sawdust in the garage and you can roll this out or I will later. Glad to do it but not a a good stopping point right now.

198 7/6/2020 1:43:00 PM Summer 1862 Confederate Message Correction on the generals. I forgot to subtract Longstreet from the total. I had left Longstreet in Nashville. AoM will have 6 generals and +6 drm and 5 SPs entering Clarksville and possibly Bowling Green. I'll let you decide on interception and roll out the battle either at Clarksville or Bowling Green.

Use this to activate Jackson and the Army of Mississippi at Nashville. I will leave Longstreet and 2 SPs there and move with the remaining 3 SPs and 5 generals:
1. Franklin
2. Dover
3. Paducah and pick up 2 SPs and Van Dorn from AoT (leaves 2 SPs and 4 generals in AoT) (now 5 SPs and 6 generals in AoM.
4. Dover and pick up Price but leave the 2 SPs (now 5 SPs and 7 generals)
5. Clarksville where your AoT could intercept
6. If no intercept at Clarksville then on to Bowling Green and a medium battle. Union with +4. Confederates with +6.

195 7/5/2020 6:54:00 PM Summer 1862 Union Play Strategy card as Event #14: 3 / Red River Campaign
May not be discarded by the Union. Union must use this card as an OC. If at the conclusion of movement, a Union SP is not on or adjacent to Grand Ecore, LA, then the Union loses 5 SW points. If a Union SP is in one of the objective spaces then a Union PC marker can immediately be placed to convert the space or spaces. Remove from deck if Union plays card.

Message from Union:
5U7- Event I guess from the way itís written but it says use as an OC.

First things first. Not even close to the objective on the card so I lose 5SW dropping from 79 to 74. Then I have to use the card as a 3OC.
The card is also removed from play once I play it here.

Now, my 3 OC.
Activate McClellan at Pittsburgh and his 2sp. Move to Johnstown and pick up the 2sp there for a total of 4sp. Return to Pittsburg and continue to Uniontown, Grafton, Parkersburg and drop 1sp there. On to Charleston and leave an 1sp there, Then to Weston and drop 1sp there. Then return to Grafton with McClellan and his 1sp and park.

Confederate may place one Ironclad in a controlled port or coastal fort space.

Message from Confederate:
5C6: Use this to activate Van Dorn in Nashville. He will do a corp move by taking 2 SPs and Price and moving:
1. Franklin, TN
2. Dover, TN where he drops off Price
3. Paducah where he ends in the Conf AoT, now with 4 SPs. This will replace the battle losses of the AoT.
Jackson is left with 5 SPs in Nashville.
193 7/4/2020 3:16:00 PM Summer 1862 Confederate Message Confederates hold at Paducah and deal the Union AoC a 3/2 defeat. Union AoC drops 3 from 7 down to 4 SPs and retreats back to Cairo. Confederate AoT drops 2 from 4 down to only 2 SPs.

Activate the AoC and itís 3sp. Leave 1sp in Cairo and move the army to Salem/V and pick up the 1sp there which makes the army have 3sp again. On to St. Louis and pick up 3sp of the 5sp there. Now army has 6sp. Move down to Ironton and back into Cairo grabbing the 1sp there. AoC now at 7sp and has 1mp remaining. Continue on to Paducah to battle the UAoT and itís 4sp.

General ratings are the same so union has 2dr adds and south has 3 adds. Let me now what you choose to do before the battle at BW down the road...

Nice rearrange of generals and AoM. Unrealistic but works in this game. Iím sick of my generals!

Union immediately receives one SP in St. Louis, MO space if no Confederate SPs or fort are present, whether it is controlled by either side or neutral; OR Confederate plays card at the beginning of a battle and receives a +2 DRM in the battle.

5C5: reorganization move to shuffle generals around
Paducah, Ky: Conf AoT Pope, Price and Smith move to Nashville to join the AoM
Dover, TN: Longstreet moves to Nashville and AoM
Manassas, VA: Van Dorn moves by rail to Nashville and the AoM
This makes Confederate Army of Mississippi with Jackson in command with Stuart and 5 other generals:
Smith as 2nd in command, then Van Dorn, Longstreet,
Price, and Polk
189 7/2/2020 6:21:00 PM Summer 1862 Union Message Lieutenant dan had to correct me on 5U5. I had 13SP to start with so I will alter the move by leaving 1sp at Somerset and leaving 2sp at Louisville. I still end up in BW with 6sp, just more reserves.

Sorry Dan, I have disconnects from the board to the digital recored which is unfortunate. My brain does things differently than yours. Thanks for you honesty.

186 7/2/2020 10:28:00 AM Summer 1862 Union Message I checked on the SW changing or not and you are correct. Iím glad you brought it up, I had missed that fine point not having read it in awhile. It specifically mentions the army tract.

I thought you might create the army. Seemed like the smart thing to do. Corps donít do well against armies unless you get that intercepting stuff youíve been doing going on, Now, what will I do...?

Message from Confederate:
5C4: Hard to decide what to do next. That fort at Bowling Green is bothersome. Use this to form the Confederate Army of Mississippi at Nashville with Jackson as commanding general and Stuart as cavalry with 7 SPs total. Confederate Strategic would drop 2 but there are no other generals on the map except for Longstreet and he has the same political rating P2 as Jackson. All the other generals are in army displays. 181 6/30/2020 10:21:00 AM Summer 1862 Confederate Message Jackson gives Burnside the slip and retreats all back to Nashville joining the 2 SPs there and making 6 SPs total counting Stuart's cavalry. 179 6/30/2020 12:27:00 AM Summer 1862 Confederate Message Another good move by your AoT. I'm glad Grant is not on the board yet. I don't like the odds and I'm thinking about a discretionary retreat but I need to think some more overnight.

165 6/28/2020 1:25:00 PM Summer 1862 Confederate Message OK, I'll hold to the one mulligan rule and only if the other player has not gone yet. I'll be more deliberate on my moves. Yeah, it struck me late last night that you were going to put a fort at Paducah if I didn't knock you out of it first. And this battle is no certain victory but I have a slight edge.
164 6/28/2020 7:33:00 AM Summer 1862 Union Message Well, Iíll have to say you got me on that rule on the generals used. I hadnít looked at that since reading the rules originally. Remember it now but had not considered it before now. I never realized how many disadvantages the Union has at them beginning of the war. Iím sure itís made up for later but wow!

Guess I should have moved last night. I was planning to put a fort at Paducah but wanted to look it over when I felt more like thinking. Iíll get to this in awhile.

Why donít we institute a one move take back option, a single mulligan so to speak from this point on? It would give stability to both of us if we are thinking over our next move. Iíve been holding myself to that generally.

Message from Confederate:
Use this to activate A. Johnston and the Confederate AoT at Columbus, Ky. Johnston will leave 2 SPs and Smith and Price at Columbus for now and move:
1. McKenzie and pick up 2 SPs (now 4)
2. Humboldt and pick up 2 SPs (now 6)
3. Columbus, Ky and pick up Price and Smith but leave the 2 SPs in the fort. This makes 7 generals and 6 SPs in AoT.
4. Paducah and battle Pope's AoC. Confederate AoT will use A. Johnston, Morgan and Bragg for +4 drm.
Union AoC only gets to use 1 general besides Pope since A. Johnston has a higher rating than Pope's 0 defense and will get +2 drm for Pleasonton. This is another medium battle and the 3rd battle at Paducah. Each side has 6 SPs.
Sorry for changing my mind so much.

I refreshed my brain with the victory conditions and I donít think I have much of a chance at this point, too hung up on Kentucky and Tennessee forts. Good learning match though. I didnít realize I needed to convert so many states. I thought it was a SW comparison.
