1070 7/15/2020 10:39:00 PM Winter 1919 Central Powers Message Tom Drueding of PoG fame is playing Madisonís War too.
1069 7/15/2020 10:35:00 PM Winter 1919 Central Powers Message Thanks. It was a great game!

The Mr. Madisonís War BPA email tournament started today. Iíll focus on it for the next few days, at least until I get a sense of the pace.
1068 7/15/2020 10:17:00 PM Winter 1919 Allies Message Well, that was quite a game! I will be ready to go whenever you're ready for game six!
1067 7/15/2020 10:17:00 PM Winter 1919 Allies Message Yeah for sure. I had to put a lot of effort out to "maybe get one point".
1066 7/15/2020 10:02:00 PM Winter 1919 Central Powers Message I definitely saw that I could have closed the "Road to Damascus" by reinforcing Nablus on round 1, but I really needed all four ops against Russia to have a chance there. And your odds of taking Nablus were slightly less than 50-50 anyway.
1065 7/15/2020 9:51:00 PM Winter 1919 Allies Message The Near East map had all sorts of interesting stories this time! After Yudenitch couldn't get going I thought it was going to be a not-much-going-on NE campaign, but we had all the Lawrence of Arabia antics and the re-taking of Medina, and then the British failing so badly I had to play Allenby (eek, War Status!) just to save Egypt from the Yilderim. And then the Bulgars of Baghdad, and pressing the Aussies back into Basra! And Allenby and Lawrence finally "got a little something going" with some good luck at the end. It was a LOT of action on NE map!
1064 7/15/2020 9:46:00 PM Winter 1919 Allies Message My last hand wasn't terrible, but it was... odd. One usable 4 card, one usable 3 card. Zimmerman which has to be AR6 (or at least post Tsar). Romania which has to be for the event. And everything else was 2's. Not exactly the dream closer hand, but that hand I had on whatever it was T16 or T17 was insane.
1063 7/15/2020 9:41:00 PM Winter 1919 Central Powers Message As it happens, Treaty of Brest-Litovsk was the single card I did not draw on the last turn - not that I was eligible to play the event.
1062 7/15/2020 9:36:00 PM Winter 1919 Allies Message There IS that interesting timing thing where if you get the WS up too high too early then US could come in, and if you then don't ALSO get Brest-Litovsk played then that's bad. Of course that ends up being part of the tradeoff with how many armies to keep in Russia vs. West and stuff, since if you can get to at least 4 VP sites you can go w/o letting US "quite" in. And/or you can do it all around T17-18 (which you certainly ended up mostly doing) and hope the AP hand traffic jam doesn't come out right.
1061 7/15/2020 9:33:00 PM Winter 1919 Allies Message Oh gosh yes, when you played H-L Take Command I was really worrying about an Italian thing. I was certainly gonna plan to SR down another army or whatever, but it's a lot less help if I've already lost the trench.

And yeah, WS is almost always good for CP in the "post Total War, pre-Fall-of-Tsar" part of the game -- usually a standard thing for me as AP is to try to play ~0 WS besides Independent Air Force after I reach Total War.
1060 7/15/2020 9:31:00 PM Winter 1919 Central Powers Message In the bigger picture, I probably should have been as disciplined about increasing War Status as you were about not increasing it, although that might have allowed you to play the American armies and 14 Points for 3 more VP.
1059 7/15/2020 9:28:00 PM Winter 1919 Central Powers Message On Turn 17, I had an excellent A17 vs A7 attack against Verona. I am thinking maybe I should have used Michel to take Verona and gain War Status rather than Lloyd George to prevent British attacks that turn.

My logic at the time was that I could play Michel after Lloyd George, whereas I could not play Lloyd George after Michel. But I never had as good an opportunity to break through after that turn.
1058 7/15/2020 9:22:00 PM Winter 1919 Allies Message Yeah, I think you would have ended at 10 with Antwerp (I could make a Hail Mary attempt to retake)

If War Status had gone better one round earlier there were the two Romania VP's, and then it was completely conceivable to have Russian rolls go better and end up with Kiev and/or Konigsberg. And me getting Damascus wasn't a lock. Was definitely right in the margin of error.

1056 7/15/2020 9:19:00 PM Winter 1919 Central Powers Message And Zimmermann subtracted a VP.
1055 7/15/2020 9:18:00 PM Winter 1919 Central Powers Message Alright, I think I had 8 VPs at the end plus 2 for no US armies, so I could have had 11 by grabbing Antwerp at the end, but 13 are needed to win without the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk.
1054 7/15/2020 9:17:00 PM Winter 1919 Allies Message Zimmerman is the card I've "been nursing along" of course.
1053 7/15/2020 9:16:00 PM Winter 1919 Allies Message I'm gonna definitely file away that "T19 don't necessarily bother building GEc's to RB" idea...
1052 7/15/2020 9:11:00 PM Winter 1919 Allies Message Great game, very well played. Even if the overall die rolls turned out to be evenish, I got a lot of my good ones "in the clutch" (and usually in Russia - either 7LF-ing your armies or getting trenches dug). And if you'd broken through in Italy I'd have been completely doomed.
1051 7/15/2020 9:09:00 PM Winter 1919 Allies Play Strategy card as Event #54: 5 / Zimmermann Telegram
May only be played if U.S. entry marker is in the "Zimmerman Telegram Allowed" box. Subtract 1 VP. US joins the Allies. Allows play of "Over There" on any following turn.

Attack Cambrai, CT(2), Verdun, Nancy.
1. Cambrai+CT vs. Sedan A12:A15
2. Verdun+Nancy vs. Metz, A12:A15

Other than getting the BR MO done, I don't think that can really move the needle.

BTW something to remember for the future is Antwerp! It was easily baggable for you this last round - if I'd had a single spare op this turn I might have tried to put something in there, but I didn't have much available.

May only be played if Russian Capitulation marker is in the "Fall of Tsar Allowed" box. Add 1 VP plus an additional 2 VP if RO is still neutral. RU Activation costs 1 OPS per unit, not space, for Combat only (even if all units in the space do not participate in attack(s).) RU corps may no longer move (can still SR) between the To Caucasus Box and the Near East.

1048 7/15/2020 8:42:00 PM Winter 1919 Allies Message Yep the last turn it was to your benefit to string me out, cause Romania would have been more "distracting" if it had come in earlier in the turn. As it is you can block it completely with 2 of your 5 activations.
1047 7/15/2020 8:41:00 PM Winter 1919 Central Powers Message Well, that's one reason I didn't play my WS until I had to.
1046 7/15/2020 8:37:00 PM Winter 1919 Allies Message I just drew it this turn. So if I'd played even another point of War Status before this turn (e.g. the ever-tempting Greece and MEF), that would have been 2 extra VP for you.
1045 7/15/2020 8:35:00 PM Winter 1919 Central Powers Message With 8 cards in your hand and 5 in your deck, I knew you probably had Romania, but hoped you didn't.

Anyway, I think that's the game, but I'll do my last action.

998 7/15/2020 12:24:00 PM Winter 1919 Central Powers Message I don't know about a lot. We have had three French Mutinies: Turn 9 (when I played the card after rolling a French MO), Turn 11 and Turn 16.

Now, three out of 12 turns is only one below average. But we might treat Turn 9ís mutiny as non-random since the MO was decided before the card play and may have informed the card play. If so, two out of 11 subsequent turns is closer to half the average, which provides a better basis for whining. :)
997 7/15/2020 11:51:00 AM Winter 1919 Allies Message I held one card too.

Yeah there was a phase in there where the French were inconveniently mutinying a lot, but then it passed. Of course I got plenty of my second-least-favorite MO which is Italian. But Britain is usually my favorite one to get once FR Mutiny is in play, followed by Russia...

Vienna Move: AH2 to Maggiore

Dubno Attack: AH1, AH3 & AH4 vs Rovno, autokill RUc, no advance

Adana Attack: Three TUc vs Damascus, C3 vs C1

I acknowledge there is still a supply threat to TUc Thorn, but I believe eliminating RUc Rovno removes the supply threats to other CP units.
