I could add one game, two or four player. The only four player I really know is Nappy Wars, and it's been forever. Here I Stand would be too hard to teach online if you haven't played it. I have the new version of Successors kickstarted, but it's not here yet. Two player: gotta be something I know. Could play PoG so you can have your revenge. Could try Barbarossa to Berlin. Trying to stick with games on ACTS. |

Let's cash this one in as I am still learning the game and the depth of strategy. I appreciate your teaching me to be a worthy opponent in this game ! I have tried a number of things to see what does and doesn't work from both sides. FtP is a wonderful game and I am rally digging it ! When you lived here I simply fell in LOVE with POG ! We played "We the People" when it was in a different format than Washingtons War is currently. The combat was like 1776 with the cards, I prefer the game changed to the way it is now. Lets switch sides and try again...... BTW: with our Sword of Rome game being over, Is there anything you wold want to play that is 2 player or 4 player for all of us to get back in ? |

So, to some extend, you're Frazier and I'm Ali. You bull ahead, steady and unstoppable, while I dance around and sting where I can. |

One last thing: don't forget, I don't want to fight. You win a war of attrition, almost automatically. The only fight I really want is a large combat I will likely win, because it gives me SW. Also, if you study the combat tables, small and large battles favor the defender. Medium battles favor the attacker (historically accurate). So I am just as well off with corps as with armies--a full corps (6SP) guarantees me a medium battle if I do attack to stop you from moving somewhere I need to defend. Lee needs an army to do his Superman routine...some of my other generals are better off in corps than in armies. They're more maneuverable, and easier to keep at full strength. |

393 | 1/9/2021 5:13:00 PM | Spring 1863 | Confederate | Message |
You haven't taken the key geography in the game yet--upper Kentucky/Tennessee. Take Dover, and I can't cross the Tennessee River, I have to go around it. Take Columbus and Memphis and I have to worry about Ark and Texas being cut off. And you can march straight down the Mississippi River's Eastern short. You've been very focused on the East, but Lee is tough to beat, as he should be. Strategically, the war was won in the West, by Grant, before he came East. Also, before Grant, I think you had two 3's commanding armies in the East. That makes it hard to move them, and takes up resources (cards and SPs) you aren't using to overwhelm my forces in the West. Instead of hammer blows against Lee, which probably won't work before Grant, your SP should be distributed across three theaters--East, West (KY, TN, and south of them) and Trans-Mississippi--forcing me to spread my forces thin. One amphib move every turn or every other turn (not card play, turn) also forces me to leave forces to deal with them. |
392 | 1/9/2021 5:04:00 PM | Spring 1863 | Confederate | Message |
Good questions. Blockade is random. It helps but isn't necessary. Naval moves--you can move 3SP and a general on any 3 card--doesn't have to be a special naval card. The naval cards just give you extra juice. One thing you aren't doing is using armies to full advantage. You tend to leave SP behind them instead of convert spaces a you go. Better to keep a powerful, threatening army together, move slowly and covert 3 spaces per activation, than scatter your forces where my corps can pick them off. That's what just happened in Missouri. If you'd just converted six spaces using two cards, I couldn't have stopped you and Missouri would be yours. |

Request: 6-sided die x 2 1 5 Message from Confederate: OK, teaching hat on. The difference between amphib and a normal attack is that we calculate an amphibious modifier, which cannot exceed 3. You get 0 (your modifier--could also have a card, but didn't). I get 2 for having a fort. (Ironclads, torpedoes, etc. could also add). You subtract one from the other, so the modifier is 2-0= +2 for me. Then you add the other factors. You get +4 for attacking an ungarrisoned fort. You get +1 for Pope. So you are +5, I am +2.
