707 9/9/2020 2:45:00 PM Fall 1864 Confederate Message Hey, congrats, Ken! Well played.

This was a fun game; I don't play much in the way of wargames, and I ended up really enjoying this one. Thanks for inviting me!
706 9/9/2020 1:12:00 PM Fall 1864 Union Message I had a great time! I'd sort of looked at this game for several years, and I finally got to try it in the days of COVID. You're a super-good sport for playing it with me, Kyle. Thanks!!!!!!
705 9/9/2020 1:11:00 PM Fall 1864 Union Message American schoolchildren will grow up learning about Uniontown; the Historic Park run by the NPS there has a lovely bookstore. Appomattox Courthouse is an obscure crossroads for about sixty years after the war, at which point the last house falls down in disrepair and the town disappears from the map.
704 9/9/2020 1:08:00 PM Fall 1864 Union Message 7 for me, 6 for you. That's 1 loss for me, 2 for you. I win the battle.
Your army is eliminated, and your SW goes to 0.
McDowell is not as magnanimous as Grant was in our world, but he takes Johnston's surrender graciously and wires word to Washington. The white South prepares for carpetbaggers, occupation forces, and black people voting. Eventually, they drive the first two out, but they still haven't come to terms with the third phenomenon.

698 9/8/2020 2:28:00 PM Fall 1864 Union Message We each lose 3. I lose and retreat to Charlottesville.

It was a large battle, so you get +3 SW and +2 for change of fortune!

I lose 5 SW for losing and 3 more for change of fortune.

Well, given my faulty memory of the rules, I had to try. It's now your turn!

696 9/8/2020 2:22:00 PM Fall 1864 Union Message Aggh! These rules! I just remembered this and confirmed it in the rulebook: you have no place to retreat before battle, so I can force the battle, but you can, as a last resort, retreat *after* battle (supposing you lose -- not a given!) into an enemy-controlled space without LOC.
695 9/8/2020 1:33:00 PM Fall 1864 Confederate Message I want to leave the dice rolling to you, Ken. I suspect this will be the last battle of the game, and I think it's fitting for you to roll the bones!

682 9/7/2020 5:44:00 PM Fall 1864 Confederate Play Strategy card as Event #75: 2 / Western Concentration Block
Confederate player can either remove or demote an army commander in any state except Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, or Florida for no political cost. OR Confederate Player may move 5 SPs using Strategic Movement (rail connections only) to the same space with a Confederate General who is then activated and must attempt to enter a space with at least one or more Union SPs or fort. If a general casualty occurs in a battle caused by this card, the Commanding General is eligible, this is an exception to the rules. See 4.5 Remove from deck if event is played.

Message from Confederate:
Second option.

2 SP from Fayetteville to Army of the West (I'd love to bring Bragg but that doesn't seem to be an option; I guess he hangs out by himself)
1 SP from Wilmington to the Army of the West
1 SP from Richmond to Army of the West (and here I kinda wonder about our previous talk re: free SPs and armies)

Attrition
Savannah is out of supply. (I have to have the coastal port as well.) So -2SP there.
-1 SP in Springfield, Vincennes, Cairo, and DC
-2 SP in Manassas and Paducah
627 9/1/2020 4:14:00 PM Summer 1864 Union Message You also had one elite unit, so you actually rolled a modified 6, but it made no difference in the result.

Vassal dropped you 13 points for the elimination. I only see 5 points in the rules. Oh! Johnston is also relieved of duty, so you lose his political rating.

Vassal left Hood's elite unit in the space. Surely it goes to the Turn Track, so I put it there.
