335 10/19/2020 11:35:00 AM 211-210 BC Rome Play Strategy card as Operations #28: 2 / Hannibal Charms Italy

Message from Carthage:
Naval roll for Hannibal.

-2 for Carthage as a port. Another -2 for Macedon and Syracuse being allied to Carthage. Rolling a 6 would modify to a 2 and a 'return'. Anything else gets the army to Carthage. No further move once there.

Message from Carthage:
Nothing I can do for round 4. The Carthaginian CU will be eliminated on the retreat table, so I won't roll. Hasdrubal is 'dispersed'. All that is needed is a roll on the attrition table for the Romans. No modification.

Mindful of the crucifixion rumours in his camp, Hasdrubal attempts to intercept to Beneventum.
315 10/15/2020 3:14:00 PM 211-210 BC Rome Play Strategy card as Operations #8: 1 / Hostile Tribes
(Both) Play whenever an opposing army occupies (or enters) space in Gallia Transalpinia or Liguria. The Army immediately undergoes Attrition on the 5-6 column.

Message from Rome:
Time to get to moving. Activate Scipio Africanus at Rome. He takes 10 CUs (leaving 1) and moves:
Capua
Beneventum (where Hasdrubal could try and intercept on a 1-2)
Paestium to battle Hasdrubal.
If Hasdrubal avoids battle, Africanus will stop there.
314 10/15/2020 3:36:00 AM 211-210 BC Carthage Play Strategy card as Event #13: 2 / Bruttium Recruits
(Carthage) Place two Carthaginian CU's with any General located in Lucania

Message from Carthage:
Add 2CUs to Hannibal at Croton to make him 5CU + 1ECU.
313 10/15/2020 3:33:00 AM 211-210 BC Carthage Message Yes quite possibly. One of our problems with Carthage is that the winners wrote the history and we don't know a great deal about them. I have been to Carthage but most of the ruins and items on show are from the Roman city built on top of it. That was when 1. we didn't have a pandemic and 2. well before Islamic terrorism.
312 10/14/2020 5:56:00 PM 211-210 BC Rome Message Yes, Hanno Counsels Carthage card goes away with the card shuffle.
I read an interesting article recently in The General vol 32 no. 2 about the 1st Punic War. It seems the Carthaginians often executed their losing generals. They often crucified them.
311 10/14/2020 5:15:00 PM 211-210 BC Rome Play Strategy card as Operations #1: 3 / Corsica and Sardinia Revolt
(Both) If your opponent has control of Corsica/Sardinia, remove all his PCs in that province which are not stacked with his CUs.

Message from Rome:
Time to put back some of the damage in PCs. Place Roman red PCs at:
Arpi
Falerii
Tarquini
310 10/14/2020 4:23:00 AM 211-210 BC Carthage Message You go first. Not sure when we last reshuffled but I had a Hanno Counsels Carthage marker out so have put that away, allowing Hanno to move elsewhere.
309 10/14/2020 4:21:00 AM 211-210 BC Carthage Draw Strategy cards 8 cards drawn.

308 10/14/2020 4:21:00 AM 211-210 BC Carthage Message Mago reappears at New Carthage.
307 10/14/2020 4:18:00 AM 211-210 BC Carthage Message Carthage reinforcements. 1CU to Carthage so now 9 there. 1 to Croton so 3 + 1ECU there. 1CU Dertosa now 5. 1CU New Carthage now 2.
306 10/12/2020 2:55:00 PM 211-210 BC Rome Message I will not start with a campaign card so you can decide who goes first.
305 10/12/2020 2:45:00 PM 211-210 BC Rome Draw Strategy cards 8 cards drawn.

304 10/12/2020 2:44:00 PM 213-212 BC Rome End Turn Deck was reshuffled.

303 10/12/2020 2:44:00 PM 213-212 BC Rome Message Varro will enter at Panormus with the 7 CUs there.
Fabius has to stay in Italy so he will enter at Mutina with the 5 CUs there.
Mago was displaced and re-enters this turn.
302 10/12/2020 2:41:00 PM 213-212 BC Rome Die roll request Request: 7-sided die x 3

Message from Rome:
Rolling for Roman consuls down the row from P. Scipio 1st to A Paulus 7th skipping Marcellus. 3rd roll is in case of ties.
301 10/12/2020 2:39:00 PM 213-212 BC Rome Message I will remove 6 PCs for the 11 to 5 difference in provinces from the following:
Mutina
Ariminum
Sassari
Panormus
Arpi
Agrigentum
Next is the Carthage reinforcements but those are pretty obvious. Hannibal has 2 CU + 1 ECU, Hasdrubal has 1 CU so one will go to probably Hannibal, 2 CUs will go somewhere in Spain and 1 with Hanno.
Roman reinforcements:
2 CUs with Marcellus at Ariminum making 11 CUs there.
1 CU at Rome making 6 CUs there.
2 CUs with Flaminus making 7 CUs with him at Sassari.
Next, Scipio Africanus will enter at Rome with his extra 5 CUs making 11 there.
Flaminus and Fabius will go back keeping Marcellus as proconsul with Scipio Africanus.
300 10/12/2020 4:04:00 AM 213-212 BC Carthage Message Correct! Your Cosa play put the Etrurians and Firmum into isolation. At least I had 3 Italian provinces for the Capua event, though that might never translate into full control of that province. We haven't done many sieges or subjugations.
299 10/10/2020 9:33:00 PM 213-212 BC Rome Message I think your 4 PCs in Etruria and the 1 PC in Samnium are isolated and go away. I control the port at Cosa with my last card "Diplomacy" and you listed that you moved all your forces down to Lucania province. With no port, no walled city adjacent and no CUs they are isolated unless I missed something. That would make you having 11 provinces to my 5 and require 6 PC removals if I am correct.
298 10/10/2020 5:32:00 PM 213-212 BC Carthage Message Winter Attrition: I don’t see any.

Political Isolation: all look safe.

Victory Check: Carthage 4 Spain, 4 Africa, 3 Italy, Syracuse for 12 total. Rome Sicilia, Corsica/Sardinia, 3 Italy for 5 total. Campania is tied. You are 7 down.

Scipio is on the way though.

297 10/10/2020 5:23:00 PM 213-212 BC Carthage Play Strategy card as Event #25: 2 / Capua Sides with Carthage
(Carthage) If the Carthage controls 3 or more Italian provinces Capua is converted to Carthaginian control and all Roman CUs inside are eliminated.

Message from Carthage:
Event used. Flip Capua to Cartage control as the three provinces of Gallia Cisalpina, Etruria and Lucania are Carthaginian.
296 10/10/2020 5:22:00 PM 213-212 BC Carthage Play Strategy card as Operations #23: 3 / Numidian Ally
(Rome) Place up to three Roman PCs in Eastern Numidia in spaces which do not contain enemy CUs. If the space contains a Carthaginian PC, the PC is simply flipped.

Message from Carthage:
Use for PCs. Place one in Arsa and flip Paestum and Croton.
295 10/9/2020 9:05:00 PM 213-212 BC Rome Play Strategy card as Event #35: 2 / Diplomacy
(Both) Convert any one non-walled, non-tribal enemy PC Marker in a space without an enemy CU into a friendly PC Marker.

Message from Rome:
You should have 2 CU + 1 ECU with Hannibal if you leave 1 CU behind with Hasdrubal.
Use this as an event and flip the PC at Cosa to Roman.
Now you have the two remaining cards to finish the turn.
294 10/9/2020 12:35:00 PM 213-212 BC Carthage Play Strategy card as Operations #22: 1 / Mutin's Numidians
(Carthage) Place one Carthaginian CU and a PC in any non-walled city space in Sicilia that contains no Roman CUs. If the space contains a Roman PC the PC is simply flipped.

Message from Carthage:
Hannibal leaves Hasdrubal and 1CU behind and moves with 1CU and 1ECU (Paestum) – Croton.
293 10/9/2020 12:32:00 PM 213-212 BC Carthage Message OK put Druentia's PC back. Am back home and should be in the usual daily pattern. I am finding the virus restrictions draining and they are not going away here (tightening no doubt to come).
292 10/6/2020 9:45:00 PM 213-212 BC Rome Play Strategy card as Operations #15: 1 / Iberian Recruits
(Both) Place two Carthaginian CU's with any General located in a friendly controlled province of Hispania.

Message from Rome:
I will use this to flip the PC under Marcellus at Ariminum to Roman red.
291 10/6/2020 9:45:00 PM 213-212 BC Rome Message Two things to modify the results somewhat:
1. according to the 2nd edition of the rules, the first CU lost in the retreat table must be an elephant if there is one in the retreating force. Thus, Hannibal would be down to 1 ECU and 1 CU instead of 2 ECUs. So his force now at Paestium would be 3 CUs + 1 ECU.
2. In losing PCs due to battle losses the number is rounded down. So for the 3 CU losses you would only need to remove 1 PC instead of 2.
290 10/6/2020 5:53:00 PM 213-212 BC Carthage Play Strategy card as Operations #7: 1 / Hostile Tribes
(Both) Play whenever an opposing army occupies (or enters) space in Gallia Transalpinia or Liguria. The Army immediately undergoes Attrition on the 5-6 column.

Message from Carthage:
Hannibal activates with the 2ECU in Firmum Picenum and moves to Sena, picking up Hasdrubal and the 2CU there and on down to Paestum.
289 10/6/2020 5:50:00 PM 213-212 BC Carthage Message Remove the Rhone and Druentia PCs to cover the losses.
288 10/6/2020 5:49:00 PM 213-212 BC Carthage Message Romans lose 1CU. Hannibal down to the 2ECUs.
