666 1/14/2021 7:46:00 PM 203-201 BC Rome Message I think we played "For the People" the civil war game. That might be a possibility too.
665 1/14/2021 7:44:00 PM 203-201 BC Rome Message I hope to get something back to you tomorrow or Saturday. Many of those games I don't have but I remember Panzergroup Guderian. Wasn't that an SPI game magazine game? Or did Avalon Hill publish it? Sword of Rome I don't have. I have looked at Ceasar: Rome vs Gaul but I haven't bought it. Thanks for the recommendation.
664 1/14/2021 2:33:00 AM 203-201 BC Carthage Message And then I had an idea, sparked by a series I am watching, a discussion online a week or so ago and remembering how it was fun to revisit one of those 1970s magazine games with Frederick the Great. That's to play Panzergruppe Guderian. Untried Soviet units? The solution is here (hence test die roll):

663 1/14/2021 2:30:00 AM 203-201 BC Carthage Message Game ideas.

Games that have modules on ACTS that I'd happily play (or try for the first time):

Code: K = Know what I'm doing, L = Some learning curve but manageable, C - Possibly a CHALLENGE.

1989 K

Europe in Turmoil L

Caesar: Rome vs Gaul K [if you don't have this yet, it is a top purchase suggestion - like Hannibal and co. but a whole raft of challenges.]

Labyrinth L

Nevsky C

Successors K [Could play 2 factions each then do a drop at a certain point]

Sword of Rome K[Again some power swap or dropout needed]

Thirty Years War K

I'd rather schedule RoR for a bit later in the year. I need to do something like a solo play through of a number of turns for it to start to come together in my mind again.

Message from Carthage:

661 1/14/2021 2:12:00 AM 203-201 BC Carthage Message I do think it is harder to maintain focus in these Covid times and, though I did some plays I regretted, it suited my 'bitty play'. Once the main Hannibal invasion of Italy failed I did my best to keep feeding someone across to maintain a threat. Having the Macedonian and Syracusan alliances made naval moves much more likely to be successful.

I have an idea or two for games. The test roll is linked to one idea.
660 1/13/2021 3:40:00 PM 203-201 BC Rome Message Well, I'll be! I had my board showing one more turn. I wouldn't have placed PCs with that last card play and would have gone after Hannibal if I had known it was the end of the game. Well played my friend! You marshaled your forces and played your cards well. You are a good player and I have been lucky in the past. Or maybe I am slipping in my old age, lol. We could play one or both of these two again if you want or we could try something else.
659 1/13/2021 1:48:00 AM 203-201 BC Carthage Message That was the last turn. You have started turn 9 again. Look back at step 583 when you ended turn 8 and in 584 drew your cards.
658 1/11/2021 9:27:00 PM 203-201 BC Rome Message You can decide who goes first this last turn.
657 1/11/2021 9:22:00 PM 203-201 BC Rome Draw Strategy cards 9 cards drawn.

656 1/11/2021 9:21:00 PM 203-201 BC Rome End Turn
655 1/11/2021 9:21:00 PM 203-201 BC Rome Message Marcellus and Varro enter as Consuls for the last turn. Marcellus will come in at Neapolis with the 14 CUs there. Varro will enter at Verona with the 12 CUs there.

653 1/11/2021 9:17:00 PM 203-201 BC Rome Message I agree with your victory check. I will remove the Roman PC from Nice in Massilia for the 1 difference in provinces. And we go into the last turn and looks like I have my work cut out for me.

Last card of 203-201 turn. Flip the PC markers under Roman CUs in Africa at Thubursicu and at Cirta.

I still show Carthage PC markers at Tolosa and Nemausus but no markers at Narbo and Emporiae. Is my map off and if not, would those PC markers get removed for being isolated?

645 1/10/2021 4:59:00 AM 203-201 BC Carthage Message Disaster for the Carthaginian general duo, who fall back to Zama with 1CU, choosing to eliminate the elephants and 4 of the regular CU.

I've been enjoying the end moves of both the games. They have thrown up puzzles and opportunities.
633 1/7/2021 11:49:00 AM 203-201 BC Rome Play Strategy card as Operations #54: 2 / Treachery Within City
(Both) If you use this card as an OC to conduct a siege, you may roll twice on the Siege Table and use both results.

Message from Rome:
I want to go after Hannibal while he is weak but Varro is such a weak general that I will wait.
Use this to activate Scipio Africanus again. He will take all 9 CUs at Saldae (lost one in the battle with Mago) and move:
1. Icosium and overrun the 1 Carthage CU there
2. Saldae
3. Cirta (where Hanno or Gisgo could try and intercept). If not intercepted at Cirta, Scipio will drop 1 CU at Cirta and move against Hanno at
4. Thubursicu with 8 CUs.

Mago will attempt interception into Saldae. It would give him an extra card. 1-2 needed.
615 1/4/2021 2:27:00 PM 203-201 BC Rome Message Scipio Africanus continues and will take all 10 CUs at Cirta to:
3. Saldae (where Mago could try and intercept)
4. Dropping off 1 CU in Saldae, Scipio A. will move against Mago at Tupusuctu. Scipio Africanus would have 15 battle cards vs Mago's 8 battle cards I think.
614 1/4/2021 5:38:00 AM 203-201 BC Carthage Message Nothing from Hanno yet, watching Scipio's moves.
613 1/3/2021 2:47:00 PM 203-201 BC Rome Play Strategy card as Operations #41: 1 / Bad Weather
(Both) Play immediately after opponent has moved but before combat. Contrary to his expectations, his General has only move two spaces - return him to the second space he entered.

Message from Rome:
Very good moves on your part. I must say, well done.
Use this to activate Hannibal at Thamugadi. He will take all 9 CUs there and move:
1. Sitifis and pick up the 1 CU there. (now 10 CUs)
2. Cirta where Hanno could possibly intercept. I'll await your decision on that before continuing.
612 1/3/2021 11:51:00 AM 203-201 BC Carthage Message Second activation: Hannibal and his 4CU (Heraclea) – Cannae – Brundisium [drop1CU] – Cannae [drop 1CU] – Heraclea again.

610 1/2/2021 1:22:00 PM 203-201 BC Rome Message I have a card that could influence Mago's move but I won't play it at this point. You may continue with your minor campaign.
609 1/2/2021 4:38:00 AM 203-201 BC Carthage Play Strategy card as Event #40: 3 / Minor Campaign
(Both) MOVE ANY TWO GENERALS. Each General can move up to four spaces with 10 combat units.

Message from Carthage:
First activation: Leaving 2CU behind, Mago and 3CU set sail (New Carthage) – Icosium.
Naval movement modifiers: -3 for Ports, +1 Icosium Roman PC, -2 the two Allies, -1 Mago. Net -5 so move is automatic. That’s unless you have a storm to play. I’ll pause in case you do. Mago would then have 1MP left.

Message from Carthage:
Use for a Naval Move. Hannibal and 4CU from New Carthage sail for Croton.
596 12/25/2020 1:44:00 PM 203-201 BC Carthage Message Yes. It is good. I'm playing a non-Acts Vassal game too at the moment (big mistake for format but there was no custom module when we set it up). It's one of the reasons I am extra confused over CDG rules being 'the same but different'!

A half way house of rerolls according to leader and elite unit ratings means that there are no battle cards, but battles can go on for more than one exchange.

It is certainly 'canonical Simonitch' and is rooted in this game.
595 12/24/2020 12:53:00 PM 203-201 BC Rome Message I don't have Ceasar: Rome vs Gaul but it looks like a similar card driven game like Hannibal. There is a custom module in ACTS for the game. Do you have it and if so, have you played it?
594 12/24/2020 12:45:00 PM 203-201 BC Rome Play Strategy card as Operations #29: 2 / Carthaginian Naval Victory

580 12/21/2020 2:37:00 PM 206-204 BC Rome Message End of turn phases:
Winter attrition: I don't see any forces that are affected. All forces are on friendly PCs.

Political isolation: None
Arpi and Pisae are open spaces in Italy.

Victory check: Both sides have 9 provinces so there are no PCs to remove at this time.

Reinforcements:
Carthage gets 4 and can bring back Hasdrubal, Mago and Gisgo.
I will place 2 Roman CUs with Scipio Africanus (now 9), 1 CU with A. Paulus making 10 and 2 CUs with Flaminus (now 8 CUs). I will keep Nero as proconsul along with Scipio Africanus and put Flaminus and A. Paulus back and draw two more Consuls.
579 12/21/2020 2:28:00 PM 206-204 BC Rome Play Strategy card as Operations #41: 1 / Bad Weather
(Both) Play immediately after opponent has moved but before combat. Contrary to his expectations, his General has only move two spaces - return him to the second space he entered.

Message from Rome:
I thought you might have Sophonisba. That gives you Western Numidia for now. I saved this card in case Hannibal sailed from Spain. I will use it now for OPS to flip Enna under Nero's army to red Roman and save some winter attrition there.
578 12/21/2020 12:27:00 PM 206-204 BC Carthage Play Strategy card as Event #24: 3 / Sophonsiba Seduces a Numidian Kin
(Carthage) Pick either Western or Eastern Numidia and place up to three Carthaginian PCs in that province in spaces which do not contain enemy CUs. If the space contains a Roman PC, the PC is simply flipped.

Message from Carthage:
I was hoping that Scipio would have moved forward before I played this.

Place a Carthaginian PC in Zuccabar and flip Vescera, only.
577 12/20/2020 1:46:00 PM 206-204 BC Rome Play Strategy card as Operations #11: 1 / Balearic Slingers
(Both) If you control the Balearic Islands, place one CU in any Port containing a friendly PC and no enemy CUs.

Message from Rome:
Nero's force drops to 6 CUs from battling Mago. That makes 11 CUs and 3 leaders that Carthage has lost this turn to 7 CUs that Rome has lost.
Use this to flip the PC at Verona under A. Paulus's army to Roman red.
576 12/20/2020 2:04:00 AM 206-204 BC Carthage Play Strategy card as Operations #6: 1 / Marharbal's Cavalry
(Carthage) Play during any battle. You may use this card as a Double Envelopment BC which (if matched) does not automatically give the defender the initiative.

Message from Carthage:
Place Carthaginian PC in Thevestis.
