151 8/26/2020 12:09:00 AM Spring 1915 Central Powers Message Thanks heaps for your words of wisdom.

I do tend to be reluctant to try and take Brussels but will try to be more opportunistic next time.

I thought I could hold your Russians while I pounded your Italians with a trench in Budapest.

I had a hand for OPs in the first turn but had already taken some fearsome punishment 2 failed flanks and you had got both the 50/50 to hit my Germans and more importantly I had been unable to elim your FR5. This hurts with an OPs hand with no landwehr in my hand. I felt my position was ok after turn 2 providing ofcourse you did not have the Italy card. Then it rapidly spiralled downards.
150 8/25/2020 10:20:00 AM Spring 1915 Allies Message In 2nd paragraph (ďalternativelyĒ), by CP1 I meant Turn 1
149 8/25/2020 9:46:00 AM Spring 1915 Allies Message Ah yes, I looked back at a couple of saves. On T2 CP1 you could have hit Brussels A16+:A6, with a flank even, and that was the time to do it. Or if you had a very important first event to play then CP2 before I can get another British army on there.

Or alternatively you could have used half of your first SR in CP1 to put some GEc's on the west sooner, and done the same thing later in the turn.

Obviously some of the timing depends on what you think of as being your overall strategy for the game, but as I say even in an eastern-oriented strategy I try to get to Brussels early.
148 8/25/2020 9:37:00 AM Spring 1915 Allies Message Hi Bindusri!

Well my motto has always been the PoG is a marathon, not a sprint, but I do understand that sometimes after too many demoralizing results it is more exciting to just set them back up and try again. So good game!

I think you might have been overcommitted against Italy given the looming Russian threat (I was clearly about to put two more RU armies in Caucasus and then you end up with two 3-stacks up in your grill). It's fairly straightforward for CP to stalemate the border at the fort line while Austria deals with survival against Russia. In this case your campaign against the Serbs was aggressive but permissible partially because it was going so well, and you had a chance to get the whole thing over with before the Russians got fully in it, but I'd personally have sent possibly only one Austrian Army, or at most two, to the Italian side, and everybody else desperately holds the east.

In the west you didn't get a great Guns of August result so going straight for the French throat certainly wasn't strongly indicated, but on the other hand when I'm not trying to "win on the western front" I usually want at minimum to pick up Brussels before the Allies can consolidate it with extra British, and I think you let some opportunities for early aggression there pass. I've won a game where I didn't manage to take Brussels in the early game (kept repeatedly timing my 1's to happen right there) and never took it until trenchbusters in 1918, but it wasn't a pattern I'd willingly repeat. And of course pounding the Western front is often the easiest way Germany can distract the Allies from crushing Austria.

If I get Rathenau really late it often means I figure out a way to get to Total War without him and thus he's an extra 5 card in the deck for the rest of the game.

Anyway! I think you still had some play here, but I'd definitely rather have the Allied position on this map, so let's set'em up and run'em again.

Would you like to switch sides, or would you rather unwrap some shiny new CP units?

I have to go get my driver's license renewed this morning, so as either side you can get things fired up and I'll either play as far as I can on the phone or get back to you later!

Brian
147 8/25/2020 7:42:00 AM Spring 1915 Central Powers Message I do not think it is right that I change my move after the dice has been rolled as again it risks the optionality again, ie I would pick cancelling the attack on Udine rather than Valjevo.

To be honest I think this game is over and I am only putting off the inevitable. Victory is yours congratulations, well played!!

The loss of the Budapest trench is the last straw that breaks the camels back, but my morale is already broken. I would only be moving aimlessly henceforth I think .

I felt my cards after turn 2 have been horrendous. Only ever got a single CC and now this ghastly hand. My last hope was that I would get a flukey hand like I did in Turn 2. Here are my cards below basically all CCs:

18 2 / Fortified Machine Guns
A GE entrenched defender adds a +1 drm.
15 2 / Chlorine Gas
A GE attack adds +1 drm.
32 3 / War in Africa
Permanently remove 1 full strength BR corps from the map or Reserve Box or add 1 VP (Allied choice). If a full strength BR corps is not available, then a reduced BR corps may be used. ANA, AUS, CND, BEF or PT do not qualify as BR for this purpose.
28 4 / Tsar Takes Command
May only be played if the Russian Capitulation marker is in the "Tsar Takes Command Allowed" box.
31 3 / Kemal
A TU unit defender (SN unit does not count) with a combat factor of 1 or more may fire on the Army Table. May only be used in one Combat per turn. See also 12.3.4.1.
16 2 / Liman Von Sanders
A TU (SN unit does not count) attack or defense adds a +1 drm.

To me it was not the early poor flank rolls that hurt most but in order
1/ Early Italy
2/ Late Rathenau (still do not have it)
3/ Inability to pursue Tsar Takes Command without giving up replacements which due to lack of Rathenau is not feasable and no German reinforcements for successive turns.
I am interested in your thoughts on where you think I lost this game/alternative strategy I should have pursued?

Let me know if you are interested in a rematch?
Surely such a series crappy of hands could not happen 2 games in a row??

146 8/24/2020 10:12:00 PM Spring 1915 Allies Message Okay I found a nice set of ACTS tournament rules by Tom Gregorio here: https://www.bitterwoods.net/paths-of-glory-tournament-faq/

It doesn't address the specific case but it gives a good general sense of supply warnings etc, and I think even though it doesn't address the case directly it mitigates toward your point of view (Ironically if I hadn't had the SBc there before the move, and it had been generated by the combat, it says explicitly that I should teach you a memorable lesson! :) )

So, it looks like according to this, I can make my move but I can't put you OOS (So I could still move to Budapest or whatever). If that's okay with you, I will proceed with Cloak & Dagger; but the offer to redo your turn stands if you didn't realize the path to Budapest was open.
145 8/24/2020 9:59:00 PM Spring 1915 Allies Message Okay I've never been sure what the "supply warning" rules actually are. Do they exist somewhere written? I will freely admit I didn't see this when you were moving, only when I started to look at maybe sending that (SBc) to Budapest to pop the trench and realized the Russians could come too. I always thought my obligation was to report them as soon as I saw them and give the option (certainly selectively reporting them would be most unethical I agree). Let me take a minute and do some research.
144 8/24/2020 9:54:00 PM Spring 1915 Central Powers Message mmm. Hold up a second.

We have a minor bit of a supply problem.

In theory, (SBc) to Budapest along with RU5 to Gorlice actually puts all of eastern Hungary out of supply.

I might end up not wanting to DO that. But if you'd like to back up to the beginning of your CP1 and run a completely different CP1 with new orders & new die rolls, that's also an option.

Ok I see what you mean, however you do need to point this out before the dice is rolled otherwise you get an option to see if the dice is favourable before you point it out.
Once dice is rolled you are not supposed to change the results.
143 8/24/2020 9:54:00 PM Spring 1915 Allies Message I could imagine some versions with a 4-ops card that would start to get pretty dire.
