Good game. Well played. I was able to keep a lot of pressure on you with good die rolls so ISR didn't kill me. My opening hand was amazing, and you didn't have the cards to disrupt it. I was able to take out CBI and NEI before you could really fight back. That's going to be rare. I've had good luck recently really pushing the CBI, but it's a gamble as you're fighting Allied units that basically have no value while pretty much gifting the USA the Pacific. But the 13 hex range change is huge. My turn 3 cards were even better but I wisely waited to see if you had ISR before I walked into anything. I looked at a lot of tempting options! IRS really made a mess of what was a great hand. But it might have saved me too. I tend to be too aggressive, like my loss to Antero. This game, ISR tamed me. I'd say the jury's out on the SOUTH 13 hex range. It might be a necessary change to give Japan some extra options, but ISR for Japan is so game changing that when they fall in it early and can't get out, it's tough. I was lucky to keep you in it also for most of two turns. I saw the British fleet CBI return and tried to lay a trap for them hoping you didn't have the surprise card to pull it off. But you did. But Ugaki bailed me out of that mess even with your ambush. Oh, and the dice! There's nothing like good dice in this game. Especially early for Japan! It’s an amazing game. The more I play the more I appreciate it. Remarkable how it plays so differently each time. Even in this game where almost every possible thing went my way, it was still possible to envision ways to blow it. It’s always exciting. |

That is a fitting end. With two cards left for Japan it is unlikely that I would have been able to hold on to my gains and keep the carrier in play at the end of the turn anyway. I note that in the other game this round that Jay won in pretty much the same fashion. Japan goes big into Burma and N. India and shuts down the area and gets India to Revolt. I did hear some discussion that increasing the range of South HQ to 13 hexes would lead to something like this and it may be that Japanese play is learning how to make this plan work. I will have to look in on some of the following games to see if this continues. Outstanding play on your part with some minor errors on my part that I need to be more careful about in the future. Good luck with the rest of the tournament. |

AH! I knew there was a reason I needed to achieve surprise for that attack, just forgot. It helps to add these details in the log so when the opponent comes back to the game they can quickly see what has happened. Frankly, I find your posting of the log file from VASSAL into ACTS utterly useless and never look at it since I can simply replay the log file. All allied units PBM to Koepang. |
