341 10/21/2020 7:31:00 PM Summer 1863 Union Message But yes. The situation got ugly much faster than I expected.
340 10/21/2020 7:29:00 PM Summer 1863 Union Message In my latest log file it looks like those modifiers are there. I currently have you at 47(-); -15 for Virigina, -12 for the Resource, -15 for the capital displacement, -1 for the fort. Which is a lot, I'll grant you, but that's the big one. If you can put the capital somewhere where it's safe(r) the rest of the SW losses are more incremental.
339 10/21/2020 4:50:00 PM Summer 1863 Confederate Message I think you might be beating me worse than the SW indicates. I think you get 15 SW for Virginia, and also there is a -1/+1 modifier for the fort loss.

I can adjust on my log.
338 10/21/2020 4:11:00 PM Summer 1863 Union Message OK, two log files posted with my turn. Grant was able to take Richmond and place enough PCs to conquer the state. I was just double-checking my move and it looks like I moved the AotP 1 extra space, so they should actually be in Burkeville rather than Appomattox, but I think substantively it's ok, either you could move it back or I'll get it next move.
337 10/21/2020 4:03:00 PM Summer 1863 Union Message Whew, ok, Richmond falls. There was a 1:6 chance it would hold.

Message from Union:
Confederate roll in the Battle of Richmond, pt. N. Union has +9 (+5 leader, +4 odds), so is an auto-10 with no leader loss due to odds. Defender is +2 for the fort. Medium battle. This is your roll.
335 10/21/2020 3:58:00 PM Summer 1863 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #24: 3 / Pre-War Treachery
Confederate may place up to two forts in any friendly controlled spaces with a LOC free of Union SPs and forts. Remove from deck if event is played.

Message from Union:
Well, Grant will try to finish this mess in Virginia at least.
334 10/21/2020 12:32:00 PM Summer 1863 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #9: 3 / Clara Barton
Union immediately adds three SPs due to improved sanitary conditions. Place in any space (friendly controlled or not) that already contains a Union SP and has a LOC, no more than one per space.

Message from Confederate:
Ewell leaves Richmond leaving a small garrison behind.
333 10/21/2020 1:22:00 AM Summer 1863 Union Message OK, I put a save file with my current state in the drive, just in case.
332 10/21/2020 1:20:00 AM Summer 1863 Union Message I *think* my save file is good now, so I could peel one off. I've noticed the log files are sometimes easy to accidentally overwrite because the default name will overwrite whatever the last logfile you loaded was.
331 10/21/2020 1:18:00 AM Summer 1863 Union Message In the AotP's last action, they went down to Fort Monroe, scooped up the 1SP and Butler there, converted Williamsburg, and then attacked Richmond.
330 10/20/2020 11:44:00 PM Summer 1863 Confederate Message for some reason I have Reynolds, Stoneman and McClellan with the AoP. I'm wondering if I missed a leader transfer somewhere.
329 10/20/2020 10:06:00 PM Summer 1863 Union Message OK, I think I'm all lined up. Log file which moves Butler to the dead pile. I think you can go now.
328 10/20/2020 10:06:00 PM Summer 1863 Union Message OK, I think I'm all lined up. Log file which moves Butler to the dead pile. I think you can go now.

Message from Union:
Union leader loss check. 1-3.
324 10/20/2020 9:56:00 PM Summer 1863 Confederate Message Hi Chris - yea, Richmond should have had 6 SP after going from 3 to 6 with the Southern Revival event. I added that and took off the SW (now at 90-) so maybe you didn't click through the full log.

Since that is the case, Union should also need to make a leader loss check.

With Longstreet dead, Richmond won't hold out for long.
323 10/20/2020 9:19:00 PM Summer 1863 Union Message Hmm, something is a little hinky in my log I think. My log has you ended with 3 SP in Richmond after the last battle. You then play the event card, but after that I only have you with 4SP when it should be 6SP. I also don't see the 3SW penalty for the event, so maybe I didn't step through the log all the way somehow? Not sure. It doesn't actually make any difference to the outcome of the battle, the +2 for odds didn't matter, but my map has you with 1SP in Richmond and I think you should have 3SP. I should also have done a leader loss check at 1-3. Maybe you can confirm ...

318 10/20/2020 9:05:00 PM Summer 1863 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #106: 3 / British Clydeside Shipyards
Confederate immediately receives three SPs in any open Blockade Runner Port, no more than one SP per port, but more than one SP per Blockade zone is permitted. If insufficient ports are available, the excess SPs are lost.

Message from Union:
Grant will take another shot at Richmond. Looked over the other options, it still just seems like the shot to take ... he'll detour to Fort Monroe to pick the 1SP there first.
317 10/20/2020 8:59:00 PM Summer 1863 Confederate Play Strategy card as Event #80: 1 / Southern Religious Revival
Confederate player immediately receives three SPs in a single space, and loses three SW points. SPs must be placed in a friendly controlled space (including Pro-Union spaces) with a LOC free of Union SPs.

Message from Confederate:

310 10/20/2020 12:39:00 PM Summer 1863 Confederate Message I really wish the Confederates could burn their own forts. Having 6 of them and taking SW hit on their loss really makes placing of them super important.
309 10/20/2020 12:37:00 PM Summer 1863 Confederate Message Thanks for reminder on the 3:1 odds nulling a general elimination. Seeing it in action it makes a lot of sense now....don't think I will forget that one again.
308 10/20/2020 1:51:00 AM Summer 1863 Union Message Oh, also don't forget that if you have 3:1 odds or better you don't have to roll for general casualties. Wasn't sure if you might have missed this re: Memphis.

295 10/20/2020 12:29:00 AM Summer 1863 Confederate Message I agree. I think Emancipation Proclamation should have more bearing. A 10 point SW swing is the same as a Confederate raid into northern territory or Unions destroying a significant resource space....seems like it should have more effect.

294 10/19/2020 7:26:00 PM Summer 1863 Union Message I was going to complain about having missed the Emancipation Proclamation and now seeing it go back into the giant deck, but then I realized I think SW levels are going to have zero impact on the outcome of the game. I could be wrong! We'll see. But -10 SW to you over the rest of the game doesn't seem super-relevant right now?

283 10/19/2020 1:45:00 PM Spring 1863 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #82: 3 / Foreign Intervention - Reshuffle/Remove
Either player can play this card as an EC when Confederate SW is 110+. If this is the last card in a players hand or the second to last and the player holds the Emancipation Proclamation, if the condition is met, it must be played as an EC, if not it can be played as an OC. EFFECTS: 1. Union Blockade reduced by one (cannot become greater than 4 for the remainder of the game). 2. Union -2 SP Reinforcements for the remainder of the game (Union choice). 3. Union SW reduced by 10. Remove from deck if event is played. If card is played as an OC or discarded re-shuffle deck at end of the Strategy Phase.

Message from Confederate:
This would be nice, but I think it might be pretty hard to pull off.

282 10/19/2020 1:27:00 PM Spring 1863 Confederate Play Strategy card as Event #47: 3 / CSA Recognizes KY, MO, MD and DE
Confederate places a total of two SPs in any single space in KY, MO, MD or DE that contains a general or army in these states. The space can be controlled by either side or neutral and does not require a LOC. Remove from deck if event is played.

Message from Confederate:

Union Blockade Level is increased by one. In addition, if Fort Philip/Jackson does not contain a CSA SP place a friendly PC marker in that space.

Message from Confederate:
AoM to Paducah, drop 1, pick up 2 in Columbus and down to Memphis to try to handle the mess there.
276 10/19/2020 1:47:00 AM Spring 1863 Union Message Well, they're not burning it yet. They're thinking about it. 2SP sitting in Memphis.

I was realizing that just leaving Forrest penned in indefinitely in Pennsylvania had certain advantages, like, that I don't need to deal with another crazy tactical rating somewhere else. But he is tying down a lot of manpower. But it would cost a 2 or 3 ops to get rid of him and I'm just not swimming in those and I've got a lot of stuff to do elsewhere.
275 10/19/2020 1:44:00 AM Spring 1863 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #21: 3 / Confederate Overseas Agent

273 10/19/2020 1:39:00 AM Spring 1863 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #20: 3 / Union Arms Production Delayed
Confederate removes two Union SPs (Confederate chooses). No more than one SP can be removed from a space and the SP cannot be the last SP in the space.

Message from Confederate:
remove one SP from AoP and AoT
272 10/19/2020 1:38:00 AM Spring 1863 Confederate Message yea, just checked out the rules closer. Forrest should not have been able to retreat in that last situation. I sorta feel like it may have been better for me if he was eliminated earlier. Tried to make a rescue mission to get him last turn, but couldn't get there.
271 10/19/2020 12:19:00 AM Spring 1863 Union Message Hmm, I was just reviewing rules and Forrest is actually much more vulnerable than I thought. You can only avoid battle to a friendly or neutral space. So he's actually kind of stuck. I was thinking he could avoid all day long unless I totally surrounded him with SPs. So I should probably take care of him ...
270 10/18/2020 6:59:00 PM Spring 1863 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #91: 2 / Letters of Marque

269 10/18/2020 12:17:00 PM Spring 1863 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #115: 2 / Galveston

Confederate player can either remove or demote an army commander in any state except Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, or Florida for no political cost. OR Confederate Player may move 5 SPs using Strategic Movement (rail connections only) to the same space with a Confederate General who is then activated and must attempt to enter a space with at least one or more Union SPs or fort. If a general casualty occurs in a battle caused by this card, the Commanding General is eligible, this is an exception to the rules. See 4.5 Remove from deck if event is played.

256 10/18/2020 12:08:00 AM Spring 1863 Confederate Message that's super cool on the will button.

That was quite a blunder by the AoNV running into the AoP like that...

I think it's 13-3 with the cavalry SP, so should be a +3 drm....for what that is worth.
255 10/18/2020 12:01:00 AM Spring 1863 Union Play Strategy card as Event #8: 1 / 3 Cigars
Play this card to make an automatic one or two space interception. Intervening space must be friendly controlled and free of enemy SPs. The intervening space may be the one just exited by the moving enemy force. No Generals or SPs may be picked up or dropped off during intercept.

Message from Union:
I'm going to use this to intercept the AoNV in Gordonville as they come to assist Longstreet. I think that forces a battle? You only have 2SP so it may not be super-satisfying that way but it'll keep your leadership DRMs away for a bit anyway.

I think it's a medium battle, +4 Confederate, +1 Billion Union (+6 leader, +2 intercept, +4 odds), no leader loss for Union due to odds. But I'll let you confirm I've got everything right and resolve since you're the attacker.

BTW, for modifying the SW, there is a Will button in the top bar. It has a bunch of buttons for various bonuses/penalties and takes care of the momentum swings.
254 10/17/2020 11:47:00 PM Spring 1863 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #124: 2 / Confederate Desertion

Battle of Hannover. 22SP, so a large battle, and SW is at stake! Conf. +3 (Longstreet), Union +4 (Grant, Stoneman). I'll save the Iron Brigade drm for later since it would be certain to be lost. Defender first.
251 10/17/2020 4:58:00 PM Spring 1863 Union Message Don't worry about the Oath thing at all. It's a crazy game. I have some concerns about the level of Kingmaking in the endgame :) I feel like if you see a path to victory, you kind of have to go after it if it's at all plausible, even remotely. There was something in the rules about deal-making for the next game which maybe I should check out, to see if it might offer a little reprieve there.

Battle of Hannover coming next.
250 10/17/2020 1:01:00 PM Spring 1863 Confederate Message Longstreet is in a difficult spot with a large battle coming down on his corps. I think he'll stand at Hanover.

Also, I have to tell you that I'm disappointed in myself for making that move in Oath last night. I don't like kingmaking moves, and that's exactly what that was. I had grand illusions of still being able to take 2 relics back from Matt before game end, which if I thought about it better was basically undoable. I should have left the board to you and Matt to fight it out.

249 10/16/2020 8:04:00 PM Spring 1863 Union Message OK, so Longstreet could intercept. So I'll need your intercept/evade policy for the next couple moves.

247 10/16/2020 8:03:00 PM Spring 1863 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #55: 1 / CSS Tennessee
Confederate may place one Ironclad in a controlled port or coastal fort space.

Message from Union:
Grant feels like he's been excluded from this party and he does not know why. So he's marching on Richmond, via Hannover. Longstreet will have a) an intercept into Fredricksburg, b) an retreat before battle to fall back to Richmond. I'll start rolling things but lmk what you want.

242 10/16/2020 7:48:00 PM Spring 1863 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #56: 1 / CSS Hunley
Place the CSS Hunley marker in any friendly port. Provides a +1 DRM to Confederate during next amphibious assault. Remove Hunley once modifier has been used. No more than one Hunley can be in play at a given time.

Message from Confederate:
Lee gets the AoT moving. Straight ahead to Lebanon.
