"It had taken nearly two weeks for the group to arrive at Chakulia from Kansas, deploying over the South Atlantic transport route. The deployment consisted of traveling to Morrison Field, Florida, then south though the Caribbean to Natal, Brazil. From Brazil the South Atlantic was crossed arriving in West Africa and re-assembling at Marrakesh, Morocco. The group then flew north and west from Morocco through Algeria and Egypt, before arriving at Karachi. By the time the group arrived at Chakulia, the month-long trip had taken its toll on the aircraft and personnel. Also, when the group arrived, the conditions at the base were poor, and the runways were still in the process of being lengthened when the first B-29s arrived."

Very Good RUN-UP, shakey TAKE-OFF but fine, 1000 feet of runway unused.

2. GALLOW'S HUMOR - [3+1] [Competent] moved off at 6:56. Flight Engineer MR +1 Bdr/Rad: Rated MR +1 precision RUN-UP, Combined Crew Rating (CCR) increased by +1, TAKE-OFF unremarkable, used all but 400 feet of runway.

3. TALL IN THE SADDLE - 0 [Untried] moved off hurriedly at 6:57. Bad vibration, possible fuel or oil leak observed at RUN-UP, TAKE-OFF went well, but 1600 ft of runway unused, on ascent the Number #1 ENGINE, was not operating efficiently, strong odour of fuel reported by the Waist Gunners, flight to Florida aborted...

Heavy landing caused two full days of repairs necessary..

And in the air there is another chart waiting...

That's it though - all else standard..

No hurry, I can reclarify, purposely went into detail to refer back to it..

Pilot/Co-Pilot are maximum +2 for RUN-UP

(Bombadier rating is allowed to improve Navigator rating by one level - representing assitance.)
(Gunnery Rating represent ancillary assistance and observation, they can be max +2)

Will divide the CCR by the appropriate result and then round down, most will be zero!
Possibly a few ones and GH has a posibility for top ratings...

======ENGINEERING TAKE-OFF ETC=====
Here is a heads-up on the take-off - will do a trial later.
So basically, feel free to play standard - but I would recommend using the initial weather roll - or go full IMMERSIVE and use all “additional* routines.
(I have heard a new Malfunction chart is being worked on however - but we will get their first as I have one already!!
This chart just gives a flat and very boring 1/36 chance the whole way through - plus I noticed it contains a flaw - will send image later - the probability for each engine should be ¼ but the 2D6 dice rolls are mixed in the case of Engine #2 & #3 - can’t see any reason for it..
(The run-up roll I name “X” roll, the standard “Y” roll and the liftoff ro;; “Z”)
As mentioned a new Engineering Event Chart must be referred to if rolling a modified 1-9 on RUN-UP.(X).
10+ fine, top 10% maybe get a crew improvement roll (?)
1-19 ONLY must reroll on LIFT-OFF - this could cause a 2nd! EE roll for those who rolled 1-9 initially!! Here crew rating is used instead of squadron maintenance level (failed!) and ALSO what I call a :LAL - Load / Altitude / Lift roll - this one can be ok or nasty 1D10 modified by -3 for normal loading (USA), -6 for normal/supply in CBI and -10(!) if combat heavy bomb load.
(As Magnus K. mentions to bomb from the CBI, each of us had to fly our own bombs over the Hump to China - which is a forward air base only.)
Enough? NO of course not!
The initial - X roll - which all aircraft must roll using the new system uses the final digit in two ways. It can represent how much runway clearance - “X multiplied by 200Ft” AND for those who rolled X1-19 and must reroll on LIFT-OFF it represents a nebulous “X” factor which negatively affects the roll - oh and as mentioned weather “may” be rerolled but wont change by more than +- either way….Then you roll Z10+ and your B-29 Superfortress takes off smoothly, an immense sigh of relief!
Then, the EE/SE/RE chart kicks in, with a slowly decreasing chance of an EE and an increasing chance of a standard RE - by the way a roll of “7” on this chart will effect *all* aircraft in the flight now!
Between the “X” and “Z” rolls is of course the standard “Y” chart, which now a roll of 2” must be softened a little as a RUN-UP issue (Malfunction roll of “1” ) obviously CANNOToccur for those who rolled 10+ - this may be a little confusing - it was for me! - but it sorts itself out.
Should we allow a roll of “12” to possibly affect daylight take offs - still mulling this over. Saipan had a cliff drop after the runway so possible - need some advice here, but allowing a minuscule possibility of a daylight accident with modifiers seems realistic.

=NAVIGATION - simplified!!=
In the streamliner chart - Joe Carter -.has a good suggestion, similar to what is done here , he simplifies by dividing - ONE in-formation 2D6 and ONE 2D6 if out of formation/ with modifiers, no multiple rolls, BUT even in formatio a roll is needed to see if extra fuel use.

The protracted R/U T/O L/O routine is just once per mission and navigation of course each zone so more detail on the former now balanced out by the latter.
Bearing in mind one of us can fly even up to 15 Aircraft as one process, things only get heavy once an event devolves on one of the squadron planes.

For simulation terms, feel free to resolve another plane’s event or if it gets tricky and time-consuming just leave it a landing zone in Africa somewhere!! Or even just “hanging”!!

I worked up some training charts, but how about we get going and just use the first leg - Southern ferry Route - Page 18, variant - from Wichita to Palm Beach as a ONE off training leg, we won’t break the assignment dates, we can make them the earliest we are allowed to leave the’ USA...
NOTE: This "training run" gives us a one-off chance to improve our rating before arriving in CBI - chart to follow...
=CREW “3” ok or roll 1D6-1 (?)=
On the Crew ratings - EACH AIRCRAFT now has just the ONE rating - “3” is fine or if you wish to take a punt, a roll of 1D6 gives you a chance of an initial rating of 0-5 - feeling lucky?
1D6-1: Untried 0, Able 1, Capable 2, Competent 3, Proficient 4, Sharp 5.
This rated the competency of the crew from 0 through to 25.
However before a mission, this rating is adapted (divided by 1D10) to create actual chart mods, just the one change VERY green aka untried..MINUS 2!
(Each mission, the FIVE key ratings for Pilot/Co-Pilot. Flight Engineer, Navigator, Bdr/Rad and Gunnery crew will vary, 0 is very green -2, +1 is standardl green -1,, +2 Competent (0), +3 veteran level.(+1 standard)

=WAY OF FLYING - AS ONE or flight of THREE=
On the Website 40-45 Available aircraft listed- as mentioned in update - (check Spam folder! )
So essentially everyone is free to fly just their aircraft or a flight of three or more, just fit in with the timeline and do everything as standard - just if you fly as a flight of three a random event on 11+ - not 12.
Or we use some new charts that alllow one roll for up to 15 aircraft..

= NEW EVENTS / TAKE-OFF ROUTINE=
Once airborne instead of double sixes, THREE charts and more granularity
To fly as a squadron with up to 15(!) at one time, I worked up a chart using 1D24 - 1D25 if US =1 Lucky point!)
Once in the air, depending on the size of the flight and the current base maintenance & reliability level, the possibility of either an Engineering, Special, or Standard Random Event can occur.
This is where ACTS is invaluable allowing a 1D83 sided die etc etc..
The big one is a new granular take-off routine, divided into RUN-UP /

TAKE-OFF / LIFT OFF.
At last count 25 steps!! Weather, crew competency levels..
If i have time I may take a few aircraft and give it a trial - still untested like our A/C.
Landing is totally standard - except as I am writing, I think a landing weather roll makes sense - but that would be it.

=WEATHER (Critical!?)=
On weather or what I term WAT Wind/Atmospherics/Temperature on take-off in the USA would be a 1D20 -10 giving a -9 / +10 granularity. In CBI it will be something like 1D15 - 10, along the way (1 D15 + (1D6-1) -10) !!
(Sandstorm in Marrakech maybe…!)
Also, it makes total sense that our initial weather roll influences the Zone ONE weather roll (Standard) by say:
-8/9 STORM (Abort!) or +5 - if may need to keep going..
-6/7 BAD +3 (little worse mod than standard as ascending)
-4/5 POOR +1 (same mod)
+3 GOOD -1 to ZONE ONE weather (same mod).
It gets even better, as the weather may change by as much as +-6 if we wait on the ground and reroll - each “1” representing say an hour.
AND, after take-off - only if there is a LIFT-OFF event - what a term a “Z” event, we reroll weather and it may change by +-3.
Weather rerolls come to our choice as players.
