Hannibal fails. That was a fairly important roll not to miss. We'll see what happens now. Battle strengths are Rome = 10 +4 leader +1 ally (you only control Campania at the moment) = 15 Carthage = 8 +4 leader + 4 allies -1 failed withdrawal = 15. With much trepidation, I will roll for elephants. Do you wish to play Elephant Fright. (That takes place before the die roll.) |

Yes, things are looking grim for Rome. Africanus has his work cut out for him. For Consuls, do you mean (Tiberius) Longus and Fabius? Marcellus is your PC. Fabius sure is popular with the home crowd. You still need to place Africanus and 5 CUs. (Technically that is supposed to happen before consuls are elected, but no matter.) If you would like to adjust your other CU placements in light of Africanus alignment, that is fine by me. After you place, you are welcome to advance the turn and declare if you will campaign. |

#40: 3 / Minor Campaign (Both) MOVE ANY TWO GENERALS. Each General can move up to four spaces with 10 combat units. Message from Carthage: A second Campaign! Part 1: Mage leaves 1 CU in Carthage and sails with 1 to Croton. With Phillip, Carthage, Sail-with-1 and Mago modifiers the total modifier if -5, so no need to roll the die. Part 2: Hannibal takes the 1 CU that Mago brought and attacks Scipio with 5e3 in Heraclea. Nominal battle cards are 16-13 before elephants. You have the option to try to avoid. If you succeed and I pursue, the CU that Mago brought over would not be able to continue as it has already moved 4. |
292 | 1/11/2021 1:26:00 PM | 213-212 BC | Carthage | Message |
No effect of attrition. It is really weird for Hannibal to be withdrawing this much, but I have had quite untenable hands. Quite remarkable that at a 5 card disadvantage you nevertheless had a credible change to beating Hannibal with a DE. I had no DE and only 1 Reserve, so only that and a probe to defend with. That, by the way, is the only Reserve I have seen all game, except the one you stole from me in the last battle!! As a side note, in the previous battle, I only had the 3 FAs and no Reserve, so if you have played the Reserve as an FA in Round 4, you would have won that fight. |
