Yes, AP can lose the gamee in Italy. However, with no German Armies there, CP will not achieve much. Do not forget that the Italians also get RPs and that they are entrenched. So it sucks, if they have to attack these Austrian moutain fortresses, but on the defence, they are quite okay. As soon as German Armies appear in the Alps, AP has to counter. If the Russians, French, and British attrit enough, there is hardly a German army to spare for the Italian fron. |

You didn't use Von Below in our game, but maybe also because I had that BR army in Verona (well, maybe sending a FR one would have hurted me less elsewhere, but in that moment I preferred the BR one for some reasons) |
1154 | 12/30/2020 5:10:00 PM | Winter 1919 | Allies | Message |
Just beware about Italy if you play with the AP in next rounds! (considering your comment nr 3) I don't have good rate of victories with the CP against experienced players, but when I won it was mainly due to an Italian invasion not well countered. |

Good luck for the next games! There is still a lot to learn and explore. This game was pretty intense and I need a "PoG break" till easter. |

I think, I need to get going against the Russians a lot earlier, but that was not possible. Perhaps I should have thrust south (towards Kieve) after capturing Tannenberg instead of going north to Lithuania. That usually captures Romania as well. |
1151 | 12/30/2020 5:07:00 PM | Winter 1919 | Central Powers | Message |
Once I conquered Vilna and Kovno, I also had three useless German Armies in Lithuania. Without Von Hutier, I could not really attack Riga and I could also not transfer these armies south, because you still had 3 RU Armies in Riga. I also had to cover my southern front against Romania. I was too streched out. The game ended with ONE CP corps in the Reserve Box. |

Thank-you for your indications about what you see as AP mistakes in this game. If you like to exchange opinions, I have some answers/explanations about the different points except nr 4, which was a clear mistake (but not a game-losing one). However it may be better/easier to exchange more complex reasonings via e-mail, rather than ACTS messages. Or we may just say good luck for the next games! I hope to see you raising at the top of the ladder in the next rounds :) |

Attacking Tbilisi costs 3 OPs. I just did not have the cards, or I thought, I should use the OPs elsewhere. |
1148 | 12/30/2020 4:56:00 PM | Winter 1919 | Allies | Message |
One example: I didn't understand why you stopped attacking in the Caucasus to get Baku (which could have allowed Bolshevick Revolution and Treaty of Brest Litovsk). Well, I was lucky to build a trench in Tbilisi, but it was not sufficient to stop your advance if you continued to attack (you could even SR a GEc to use Von Hutier there, or at least Von Francois) |
1147 | 12/30/2020 4:54:00 PM | Winter 1919 | Central Powers | Message |
You could improve your game. 1. Attrit mercilessly in the West. Start before turn 20 ;) 2. Do not retreat with the Russians unless you have to avoid OOS. Use the OPs to attrit the Germans in the West. 3. Do not send a British Army to Italy. You need 5 British Armies in the West to hammer the Germans in Sedan and Brussels (put BEF and Belgians to Calais). I think the Italians were not really threatened. 5 Italian Armies and a couple of BRc will be enought to defend against 3 Austrian armies. If you really feel, that you need to help the Italians, send a French Army. 4. You made it way too easy for me to kill the Serbs. Once Bulagaria is in, you cannot hold Belgrade without a trench there. 5. Play Salonika or Greece as LAST action and then rebuild a Serb Army in Salonika. You made it too easy for me to close that front by taking control of Salonika. 6. Not sure, whether Allenby was worth it. He achieved nothing, but he probably stopped the Turks from hammering Tbilisi and Basra. |

Your very cautious tactic proved to be effective in the end, but maybe you have risked in the last turns if luck was on my side. Probably, given the situation mid game, with some more aggressive turns you could have secured your victory earlier (before the last turns I didn't imagine I could get so near the VP threshold at the end) |
1145 | 12/30/2020 4:49:00 PM | Winter 1919 | Allies | Message |
> even without Lloyd George and High Seas Fleet, CP would have won, by a very narrow margin though I also think so, but it is not fully sure considering that without Lloyd George, besides the lost VP, I could have attacked with the British (and Royal Tank Corps) in turn 19, not only in turn 20 as I did. Well, without sme series of lucky rolls (= GE defeats, ties were not enough) I think your wall with SR and moves to reinforce would have resisted anyway, but it's not 100% sure |
1144 | 12/30/2020 4:46:00 PM | Winter 1919 | Central Powers | Message |
I almost lost the game in turn 2. And then again, it brought myself into big trouble, when two Russian armies marche to Tannenberg and cut off GE8 in Insterberg. That was very bad play on my side. Playing entrench in Insterberg was also very very bad. Your attacks on Sedan would have killed me almost. I badly needed the trench in Sedan. |
