Thanks for the game, it was exciting. Not often do you get to Charge with 4 Elephants or get a DE on Africanus. In retrospect I wish I could have done something with Hannibal before Africanus arrived but my position was not bad and the cards weren't right. I don't regret the early Syracuse as it allowed recovery of Numidia and it might have held out until I could organize a relief. I blame Mago.

Syracuse joined T3 and fell T4
Phillip V joined T4 and did not make Peace
Truce: Rome T1 and T7; Carthage T4 and T9
Messenger: Rome T4, T7 and T9

Congrats for sure, Randy

With Celtiberia in hand my plan for Victory by Truce was doomed.
466 1/8/2021 10:46:00 PM 203-201 BC Rome Message I think it ends up 10-8, correct.

Assuming I have my math right I can just pass on my last 2 cards. Holding a Bad Weather and Celtiberia Revolts.

Thanks a lot for the game. You totally controlled my the first half of the game. I got a bit lucky in the second half with the Messenger cards, the Campaigns and some good Consul rolls. I enjoyed playing.

Actually the preponderance of Campaigns since Turn 5 that allowed you to go first and go fast with Nero has been equally telling though I did negate Nero once.

Message from Rome:
Scipio A. will try to intercept into Falerii with +10CU. Success on 1-4.
379 1/2/2021 10:59:00 PM 206-204 BC Rome Message I agree. The rules are vague when it comes to two Proconsuls in the same space. I think a simple rule that Africanus outranks the other Proconsul would fix this, but it doesn't exist. I think from looking at BGG the consensus is as you said that the Roman player chooses who leads.
378 1/2/2021 9:06:00 PM 206-204 BC Carthage Message I missed that the back and forth was only 2 MP.

Having studied it before as theoretical I was overly excited by the rare possibility of 2 Proconsuls with a choice of command.

So Hannibal +10[4e] moves thru Faesulae (which I also had wrong) to attack the lone 4 in Falerri ET

Now the only limit on Interception is only one attempt can be made by the Proconsuls in Tarquini (12.7)

377 1/2/2021 8:38:00 PM 206-204 BC Rome Message Hi Randy - I think maybe I wasn't descriptive enough in my move, but I moved Africanus into Tarquini on my turn.

Basically the move was Africanus going from Ariminum to Falerii-bac to Ariminum-Falerii-Tarquini. So that left Africanus, Nero and 14 in Tarquini, and 4 CUs alone in Falerii.
376 1/2/2021 8:14:00 PM 206-204 BC Carthage Play Strategy card as Operations #20: 1 / Spy in Enemy Camp
(Both) Play at the start of any combat. You may examine up to half of your opponent's Battle Cards. Cards must be drawn randomly.

Message from Carthage:
Carthage 6th Card:

Hannibal +10[4e] moves to Falerri ET to attack Nero +4 in Tarquini ET

You have Options to Avoid and/or Intercept. They must be declared first (10.3.2) and the Avoid resolved (10.3.3) followed by the Intercept (10.3.4).

Should both Proconsuls end up in Tarquini I believe you will have choice of commander as implied in 12.6 (although that is a case of multiple Interceptions) but moreover 9.3 as the "controlling player".

This contrasts with 10.8 when the "activated general" (activated by Strategy Card play) becomes the commander.

Also note a battle will only be "caused" by a successful Intercept (12.4) if Nero successfully Avoids with 3+ CUs (leaving no more than an Overrun opportunity) due to a long-standing Designer ruling that Tim recently re-confirmed.

But of course a Take-back will uncause any Battle.
375 1/2/2021 5:11:00 PM 206-204 BC Rome Play Strategy card as Operations #6: 1 / Marharbal's Cavalry
(Carthage) Play during any battle. You may use this card as a Double Envelopment BC which (if matched) does not automatically give the defender the initiative.

Message from Rome:
Move Africanus +4CU to Falerii and drop them, he moves back to Arminimum alone, picks up 10CU and moves through Falerii to Taquini (n14).
374 1/2/2021 1:28:00 PM 206-204 BC Rome Message Hannibal takes no losses.

Nero loses 4 and retreats to Tarquini.

Remove PCs in Tolosa and Gergovia for consequences.
