223 1/18/2021 6:42:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message BTW do you have any other favorite games?
222 1/18/2021 6:37:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message He will setup the second game as soon as we tell him too. Geoff and I are already on our second game. I'm in the process of contacting him as I write this.

Also for the record either of us can contact Stephane it doesn't matter who conceded he just wants the results. Just an FYI.

BTW congratulations on the win.

221 1/18/2021 6:10:00 PM Spring 1862 Union Message Tod:

When you converse with Stephane, please ask when the next round begins. If there is time before it starts, we could start a friendly next week and suspend it when the tournament game begins.
220 1/17/2021 10:20:00 PM Spring 1862 Union Message Thanks. After the tournament is over, let's start a friendly.

You should write Stephane. To be official, the message should come from you.

219 1/17/2021 8:21:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message That's good news I would like to have someone to play FTP with. Excellent.

Do you want to contact Stepane or shall I?
218 1/17/2021 7:53:00 PM Spring 1862 Union Message Tod:

I am not offended at all that you would concede. It takes courage. And I do not wish to continue to play this round if your heart is not in it.

Had the roll gone the other way, I may very well have made the same choice. (And I understand that games often come down to one final roll.)

The good news is that it looks like we switch sides and play each other again.

And I would also be very willing to play on a friendly basis with you in the future. It can be very discouraging getting smashed by veterans.
217 1/17/2021 5:17:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message If you are not going to be offended I will concede.

But if you would like to do one more strategy round and take a corps to march on Richmond we can do that and then call it. I really don't think I can do much to stop you.
216 1/17/2021 4:55:00 PM Spring 1862 Union Message Hi Tod:

Thanks for the clarification of status. I honestly assumed that you would attack with everything in hand and overlooked the n6 at the end of the final sentence on 209.

In many ways, you made an optimal decision to attack DC. I made a mistake by packing the city with SPs and forcing a large battle. I had hoped to bluff you into not attacking, but you correctly assessed that I had in fact reversed the odds from about 60-40 my way in a medium battle to 60-40 your way.

And your strategy in the previous turn paid off handsomely to set you up for this opportunity. I would never have thought of attempting it. I might have attacked Manassas, but having won, I never would have pressed the charge into DC. I would have used the second card to knock Halleck out of Western KY.

I guess your decision depends on the cards in your hand, and whether you think that I have the cards to reorganize and take advantage of the opportunity. You blew my position away and if you continue, I still have to completely regroup and reform.

And If you remain in the game, Lee, Jackson, Longstreet, et.al. will be back next turn. Meanwhile, Stuart can retreat at will, and that’s not a bad thing.

This is my first tournament, so I leave the decision as about continuing to play up to you.

Last note, there is an SW impact from the ANV result:

CSA SW: 90- -5 = 85-
215 1/17/2021 4:12:00 PM Spring 1862 Confederate Message If you look at post 209 I dropped off Stuart in Fredrick before I attacked Harpers Ferry and I never picked him up again on the way to WDC. I did that by design. First to prevent you from intercepting me on the way back from Harpers Ferry and then to preserve a LOC if I was successful in DC.

However at this point I think it's a moot point. Last turn I had planned on taking a risk given I had Shiloh and Chickomaga cards in my hand and was able to play them back to back and I also gambled on getting a campaign card this turn. If I did, I had a 58% chance of taking DC and given my tactical advantage was going away this turn in the east I took what I thought was my best shot (and it almost worked). If you had rolled anything but a 5 or 6 I could have displaced your capital. I actually had the odds slightly in my favor. Although I would have been super weak I might have distracted you so much that you would have to use most if not all of this turn to recover. Which I could use to rebuild the CSA position but the gambit was not without risk and losing the AoNV was my worst case scenario.

So looking at the board at this point I really can't see how I can pull this out. I have 1 SP and 1 Cav Brigade in the entire eastern theater of operations.

I'm not sure how appropriate it is in FTP but in other tournaments I would judge that the polite thing for me to do is to concede and not waste anymore time playing a hopeless situation. But I don't want to offend you. You have been so patient and kind in helping me through my first game. Let me know if you think conceding is the polite thing to do in this case. Luckily we get another game to play.

214 1/17/2021 10:21:00 AM Spring 1862 Union Message According to Geoff, here's the excess general resolution:

"1 SP can support 4 generals, and Cav Brigades need 1 SP each, so one Cav General has to go to TT. (1 turn for Union, 3 turns for CSA).

If there was a battle, the owning player can choose to loose which Cav brigade, so it would be owner's players choice.. (5.54)"

So, it's your choice between Stuart and Forrest
213 1/17/2021 9:22:00 AM Spring 1862 Union Message USA disorganization leads to Curtis's death

I'm showing JJ, Stuart, Bragg, Lee, and Forrest as generals with ANV. According to 5.29, you may only have 4 generals with the army, including the cav bdge, which absorbs the lone SP.

And I think a cav general must have 1SP to support his presence on the board, so you may have to roll to see whether it is Stuart or Forrest who is relegated to TRT. Or it may be Stuart, because you technically shifted Cav CDRs when you left him behind and moved with Forrest.

I'm not sure this is going to work out but I kind of have committed my self so here goes ... turns out you won't get a force ratio modifier unless I miscounted again.

189 1/15/2021 9:56:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Message Hi Tod:

Thanks for your note and I hope all your family developments resolve quickly and favorably. That's way more important than our game.

I agree that your Strat moves into Frederick are completely legal.

My point is not that the ANV received SPs, it's the number of strategic movements that you made.

You're only allowed 7 and you made 8, 4 to ANV and 4 to AOT.

So, you have to decide which of your armies is going to receive one less SP and return that extra SP to its mustering location.
188 1/15/2021 9:27:00 PM Fall 1861 Confederate Message Don't worry if you are curt I'm used to it. You have been quite polite so I just insert that tone in every post you send me.

Also thanks for the kind words. I felt a bit bad about missing out on taking Baltimore. I just hate making a bad move. But it's a learning game and I'm giving myself the opportunity to learn. I learn quicker by making mistakes.

Now as for the strategic movement

Look at the second paragraph in 10.21..."As a special case an Army can receive a SP if it is in supply and
has an LOC of friendly or neutral spaces directly to the location of the SP (neutral RR connections are eligible in this situation). This movement can include both naval and overland strategic movement. Each SP moved into an Army counts against the player’s strategic movement limit. Note if using the RR Logistics optional rule, each player is limited to 3 SP total per turn using this special case".

I think my SM is legal. Let me know if you have any questions we can discuss it more.

BTW sorry for the delay had a flurry of family activity in the last 24 hours. Some good some not so much.
187 1/15/2021 4:23:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Message Hi Tod:

I’m sorry if you may feel that I’m being curt in my responses, but I’m just trying to maintain a neutral posture while maintaining clarity. Here’s the rule on Strategic Movement:

“10.22 STRATEGIC MOVEMENT LIMITS: The Union Strategic Movement limit is 15 SPs whereas the Confederate Strategic Movement limit is 7 SPs per game turn. Neither side may exceed its limit in a given turn …”

Here is your [modified] Strategic Movement order copied from Journal Entry #185

[3] Weldon NC
[4] Richmond VA
AoNV (n9)

SP’s to AoT
[5]Columbus

[7] Augusta GA
[8] Charleston SC
AoT (n5)

Before we can go forward, please identify which strategic movement you wish to retract.

I understand that you feel badly about missing by a hairsbreath last turn, but consider that series from my perspective. I watched you win 3 50/50 rolls in a row 3-1; 4-3; and 6-4. All I needed was a 4-6 roll for a 3 casualty outcome on either of the first two to stop you. I finally hit the high end on the third roll, but it paired with a 6 on your side, the only possible roll that delivered a 3 casualty outcome for me. I've made mistakes too, one of which you facilitated through very good play. Our game is far from over, and you may yet prevail.

CSA SW: 97- -2 = 95-
182 1/13/2021 6:41:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Message Answer to Question 1 is NO
EAST: If Washington is held by the Union and it can trace a LOC via rail connections off the north map edge, the Union player receives 8 SPs in Washington. If the above condition cannot be met then the Union player receives 4 SPs in any friendly-controlled space in PA, DE or NJ free of Confederate SPs.

The answer to your second question is also NO.

10.52 BLOCKADE RUNNER PORTS:Blockade Runner Ports are those Southern ports that have a blockade runner symbol and through which blockade reinforcements are received. A Blockade Runner Port is either open or closed. An open port is one which is Confederate-controlled, whose associated coastal fort, if any, is also Confederate-controlled, and has an LOC to another Resource space. Any port which does not meet all three of these conditions is closed.
USA occupation of Fts St.Phillip/Jackson closed New Orleans.

So you do not receive a Western Blockade Zone reinforcement.

170 1/12/2021 3:37:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Message You've talked to him before, so please write.

It may be a partial answer, one randomly determined general remains.
169 1/12/2021 3:35:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Message So, here's the rule for unoccupied forts:

Note: Forts are zero SPs and can support one general. So does that mean that I have to roll to determine which two generals are displaced to the TRT?
168 1/12/2021 3:28:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Message Exactly,

But the existence of the fort may change things. The fort is not destroyed and can support generals without SPs.

May have to ask Stephane

166 1/12/2021 3:16:00 PM Fall 1861 Confederate Message I'm trying to find where your generals stay on the board. I know if you were a corps it would but trying to find something that modifies 5.21 (man a complicated game) ....

ELIMINATION: The instant that an Army has zero SPs (even
if located on a fort) the Army is eliminated. This determination
occurs prior to retreat from a battle, so the Army is unable to
retreat onto a friendly SP to avoid elimination. An eliminated
Army has all of its generals (minus potential General casualties)
placed on the game turn record track to return to play next game
turn except Confederate Cavalry generals who return in three
game turns. The elimination of an Army carries a Strategic Will
penalty (2.7) that is applied immediately
165 1/12/2021 3:05:00 PM Fall 1861 Confederate Message Wish I was wrong

Oh well it was close
164 1/12/2021 2:50:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Message You're right. Defender wins ties in a resource or capital space. In that case, the fort survives, so I believe USA generals are not displaced to TRT, but the AOP is definitely removed for -10SW.

And ANV movement ends in Frederick.

If a general casualty occurs in a battle caused by this card, the Commanding General is eligible, this is an exception to the rules. See 4.5.

142 1/9/2021 10:31:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Message There's no battle because there are no CSA forces in Sabine City. The USA corps just lands and occupies the space. End of turn.
141 1/9/2021 9:52:00 PM Fall 1861 Confederate Message Is that an automatic victory or is there a battle?

134 1/9/2021 12:29:00 PM Fall 1861 Confederate Message sorry for the slow play just finished up Geoff's game since he was on the verge of Auto victory.

Now I can concentrate on just one game.

BTW should you have gotten some SW when you took over the Mississippi. Did I miss that? or am I just wrong about the SW.

126 1/6/2021 6:10:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Message Tod:

You could also take an action that conforms to the value of the card.
125 1/6/2021 6:00:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Message Hi Tod: That makes total sense, but you must have clicked on the wrong card, because it is only of 1 OPS value. Army creation requires either a 2 or 3 OPS value card. Here is the rule:

"5.21 ARMY CREATION AND ELIMINATION: Playing a 2 or 3 value OC allows an Army marker to be placed on any controlled space, with a LOC, containing at least one general and five or more in-supply SPs."

You can click on the "Undo Card Play," button on the right hand menu, return the card to your hand, and play a card of appropriate value.
