711 1/7/2021 12:15:00 PM Spring 1865 Confederate Message Somehow I keep typing ďorĒ and end up getting ďofĒ instead.
710 1/7/2021 12:14:00 PM Spring 1865 Confederate Message Of that was my calculation when I thought I had 27 SW left. Forgot to calculate for TX, so it would not have been in reality. Yikes.
709 1/7/2021 12:13:00 PM Spring 1865 Confederate Message I should also note that I figured on Grants AoC attacking at SP15 and a large battle which would have given me +3 for the LBW and +2 for COF which would be just enough to offset loss of capital and Richmond. Barely.
708 1/7/2021 11:55:00 AM Spring 1865 Confederate Message I canít speak to recent FTP game play strategy, but when I was playing a lot before 2011-2016, I was a little bit unusual in playing the long game for the confederacy. For me it is all about running out the clock. Sure I will raid if the situation permits, but Iím happy just to keep the USA out of CSA territory. So when you built a fort or shuttled troops to defend an attack corridor, well basically your were doing what I wanted you to do. That fort ploy in New Madrid was just one example of me playing to run out the clock. My fear at the end was that you might also have a campaign card. With a major campaign you might have been able to either take three wacks at Richmond, destroy AoNV and take it OR maybe somehow take TN, AR, and LA. Unlikely you also had a major campaign, so I took the gamble. But seriously you were closer to the win than you are giving yourself credit for.
707 1/7/2021 9:46:00 AM Spring 1865 Union Message I can't tell you how many times I though I should concede in this game and avoid further embarrassment for being unable to understand how to play it.

Its just that they rigged the scoring so that it encourages you to keep playing. The way I was playing at the end It was I though physically impossible to get enough SW loss to make the CSA surrender, but I was still trying hoping you would screw up. It was really frustrating watching your response. Especially that stuff in Missouri and then the Fort, it made no sense to me.
706 1/7/2021 9:41:00 AM Spring 1865 Union Message I have never been a game that any other conditions other than Auto victory applies? Never ever read 17.3. Thanks. So its possible for the confederates to survive and still lose. Maybe I have been playing this wrong for years. Mostly because the confederate seem to be able to walk all over the union I usually concede when I can't clean up the 2nd invasion of the north or lose DC, or as the south some one just hits richmond 5-6 times and runs the confederates out of troops and Richmond falls.
705 1/6/2021 11:46:00 PM Spring 1865 Confederate Message You are correct about SW. good catch.

Regarding the states, check out 17.3. Iíve never been involved in a game that was decided by the number of states calculation, but my reading of the rule is that each differential of 25 SW is worth a state for the Union and a total of 10 states controlled by USA is a victory. Iíll make a point about asking if my interpretation is right. But I donít see any other way to read it.
704 1/6/2021 10:46:00 PM Spring 1865 Union Message Actually I think your at 20 SW, we did not include the impact of Texas. Or is there no SW phase at the end of the game.
703 1/6/2021 10:33:00 PM Spring 1865 Union Message And explain the State Counting again.

I agree that the Union took Missouri, Kentucky and WVA, plus FL and TX but that is only 5 states, where did the other 2 come from. And yes I agree the Union SW ended at 100 and the confederates at 27.

You can report your win to Stephane and good luck in the rest of the tournament.
702 1/6/2021 10:24:00 PM Spring 1865 Union Message Yes I was very surprised by that play with the SR to let the ANV Slip by.

What is all this state counting, I never had anyone do that before?

So Am I screwed as the Confederates in my other game. I hold Missouri and Kentucky lost WVA to the Union and he has tons of troops all over the place 2 army in the east and 6 SP in pittsburg so when I had 2 card advantage on him including a campaign I could do nothing with it.
701 1/6/2021 10:19:00 PM Spring 1865 Confederate Message Bill, we donít know each other yet, so I donít want to over reach here, but I will offer some feedback. You gave up only 1 raid of 1 states and managed to take all 3 border states first. I alway make a play for Kentucky as CSA and you shut me down. My one suggestion would have been to press the advantage in Virginia when you had two armies versus one there and AoNV pinned in Dalton GA. Yes you would have taken some SW loss, but you would have bled the CSA army at a time when ready replacements were not available. Remember that little strategic movement ploy to put the SP in Knoxville that let me slip by Sherman for future use.

You really were probably just two or three cards short of the win. Or it certainly felt like that to me.
700 1/6/2021 10:06:00 PM Spring 1865 Union Message Its a Confederate victory because I did not get your strategic will to zero. And It was not an incredible game, I got trashed almost every turn. This is why I don't play this. I just can't seem to get any of the way to defend, If I leave garrisons they get wiped out with no impact the CSA, if I build big armies its an auto loss on every battle. I handed you 24 points for major battles and I was trying to avoid that completely. And again I could not figure out how to stop the invasion of the north.

Glad you enjoyed it, I really did not. The game system makes me feel stupid.

699 1/6/2021 9:56:00 PM Spring 1865 Confederate Message Bill, our game was incredible. Do you concur a CSA victory at USA SW 100(+), CSA SW 27(-)? USA controlling all 3 border states and 2 CSA original states (FL and TX). The SW differential gives you control of the equivalent of a total of 7 states (10 necessary to win).

I looked at the rules, I suppose I missed something that does not allow this? But its a union controlled state, so division moves are allowed even on to Enemy PC's and the Fort if entered by land does not fight.

I guess your just making me use up cards to prevent taking control of a state.

627 1/5/2021 5:20:00 PM Fall 1864 Confederate Message I know how I felt when you were getting those 5 and 6 rolls in 62-63 on combats in forts with SP1. So while I cheer the outcome of 2*/3 CSA win. I feel for you brother.

AoT back to Clarksville and loses another SP. I believe you started with SP5 and added 4 to 9 though, so should be 6 after combat and 5 after retreat to Clarksville.

619 1/5/2021 4:29:00 PM Fall 1864 Confederate Play Strategy card as Event #103: 3 / Seven Days/Chattanooga
Either player may move 2 SPs using Strategic Movement from the same space using rail connections only (10 space maximum) to the same space with a General who is then activated and must attempt to enter a space with at least one or more enemy SPs or fort. OR play this card as an automatic 2 space interception. Intervening space must be friendly controlled and free of enemy SPs. The intervening space may be the one just exited by the moving enemy force. No Generals or SPs may be picked up or dropped off during the intercept.
