441 3/16/2021 10:36:00 AM Spring 1863 Confederate Message Thanks Geoff for understanding. I've never had to drop out of a tournament game before. Thanks again for all your help. Definitely bit off more than I could chew. But I did have fun.
440 3/16/2021 9:57:00 AM Spring 1863 Union Message I understand, if the game isn't fun anymore, there isn't much point in continuing, especially with your other issues at home. Good luck against Greg...
439 3/15/2021 7:22:00 PM Spring 1863 Confederate Message Hey Geoff

This is a very difficult decision for me. But I think itís time to concede this game. I hope you are not offended.

The format is problematic for me. I think I need a format whereby we trade mov files but that would be really burdensome in FTP. Also and more importantly I started the game to have something to do during the winter months of the pandemic. But my business is starting back up (yay), my trip this past weekend reveled that my Dadís health has suffered more than we realized during the lockdown. With his nursing home reopening Iím going to have to travel more and gaming on the road evidently is not working for me. Finally, with the weather getting better I need to be outside more, and itís time to plant the garden.

I feel itís not fair to you to just drag this game out with little hope of me giving you a challenge. I met my goal of learning the game and thanks to your generosity I got a lot of really good strategy tips. But at this point I canít keep up two games (I thought 4 games might be a bit much and unfortunately I was correct). The game I have with Greg right now is a closer match so Iím hoping to be able to finish that one to the end if I can stay focused (the FTP vassal module is easier to use). But two games at this point is too much of a distraction given everything else going on. Also Iím just watching how you play the Union and using it against Greg which doesnít seem right at this point. (not that Iím doing it very well :)

Thank you very much for helping me learn this game and being so patient. I hope we run into each other sometime at WBCís or in New York. Itís nice to win a game but more importantly itís better to just meet nice people and have a fun time.

Good luck in the rest of the tournament.

Tod

I think the AoT is actually 5

In #413 you started with 9 dropped one off in Corinth and then took 3 losses
430 3/15/2021 4:29:00 PM Spring 1863 Confederate Message > and you can't change him in mid-flight.

Ok makes sense

>if you wanted him at 1 SP .... I'm ok with that.

Since he was a 1sp and I can't change him during your turn then 1 SP goes to TT AoW is now 8

>Should have been +2 for me (I'm still on the attack, so Pope + Pleasonton = +2)..

Sigh I should be catching on to this by now. I'll put it down to being a dumbass :)
428 3/15/2021 4:22:00 PM Spring 1863 Confederate Message sorry was traveling and I thought I would have more time to play but it was a bit more stressful than I thought and had email problems on my laptop for some reason. Still got to figure that out.

427 3/13/2021 11:17:00 PM Spring 1863 Union Message Yes, every time you activate him, you can change him.. However, this was a defensive battle on my dime (you intercepted), so it's my part of the turn, and you can't change him in mid-flight.

But it's not a big deal one-way or the other, if you wanted him at 1 SP (which is normal, I've never seen any advantage to having him at 2 SPs), I'm ok with that.
426 3/13/2021 8:56:00 PM Spring 1863 Confederate Message btw I had said he was 1 sp just thought switching him to 2sp would save him from possibly dying
425 3/13/2021 8:54:00 PM Spring 1863 Confederate Message >I asked in message #133, if Forrest was 1 or 2 SPs

I thought You could change it every time you moved him. Do you determine it at the beginning and then that's it.

Sorry I'm traveling and it's difficult to get to the rules
424 3/13/2021 1:25:00 PM Spring 1863 Union Message Not intercepting, and fighting in Memphis with a lower +6, would have kept Forrest alive.. You have to balance positional needs, leadership, and SP attrition.. Plus try to keep a few ablative leaders (like Polk) around to absorbe hits..

But you should see my other game, against Greg. He's CSA and lost 10 leaders over the course of the game, the most I've ever seen.. Most games, just 1-2 leaders on each side die..
423 3/13/2021 1:22:00 PM Spring 1863 Union Message The best I've seen (for controlling leader losses) is to try to keep your modifier to the +5/+6 range, enough to win most battles, without hitting '6' too many times.

Of course, in this case, you had +6, but you boosted it to +8 with the intercept.
422 3/13/2021 1:21:00 PM Spring 1863 Union Message Should have been +2 for me (I'm still on the attack, so Pope + Pleasonton = +2)..

But made no difference to the battle..

AotT -3 = 6, retreats to Lexington, TN
AoW -1 =9, occupies Humboldt, TN

Forrest killed, Pegram -> TT10
AoW -2 = 7, 2 SPs -> TT8
421 3/13/2021 1:20:00 PM Spring 1863 Union Message I asked in message #133, if Forrest was 1 or 2 SPs, we can assume he's been 2 SPs since then..
420 3/13/2021 10:32:00 AM Spring 1863 Confederate Message I guess forest is dead?

After this game is over you are going to have to tell me how the CSA can counter this tactic of Leader attrition. Assuming there is one

Confederate Player may move 5 SPs using Strategic Movement (rail connections only) to the same space with a Confederate General who is then activated and must attempt to enter a space with at least one or more Union SPs or fort. If a general casualty occurs in a battle caused by this card, the Commanding General is eligible, this is an exception to the rules. See 4.5.

412 3/12/2021 9:24:00 AM Spring 1863 Union Message There is never any SW loss for Sabine City, TX alone.

However, you will start to bleed -2 SW per turn, for an auto-failure of a blockade runner in WG.

You had 3 SPs in Sabine City, TX, so..

395 3/4/2021 12:46:00 PM Spring 1863 Union Message I usually place Grant in the middle so I can go in either direction (I find Grant in the East doesn't do much, it's hard to attrition the CSA there)..

But in this case, you are driving the decision. Its never a good idea to let the enemy have more armies than you do in a theatre, and you have 2 in the West, so I need to match.. *grin*
