559 2/24/2021 3:17:00 PM Fall 1863 Union Message No SR on first turn, if I recall correctly. We jump right in!
558 2/24/2021 11:29:00 AM Fall 1863 Confederate Message Marc, Iím set up to being the game once we settle the couple of rule options I proposed. The 2nd email also has a line in it about the AA to go with the first email on AA.

I may or may not get a move out today. Iíve got some things I planned to do which is why I said starting tomorrow. But, I might end up being ready for my SR once you get yours out of the way.
557 2/23/2021 6:29:00 PM Fall 1863 Union Message Oops, forgot to rectify my LOC issues as part of this move. You can go ahead and punish me for it. I think the game will be over at the end of the turn as you will likely lose Virginia at that point.
If you have a cool move you want to try, please go ahead, but I'm OK if we reset the game whenever you are ready. I assume you want another crack at the South, or are you ready for a break or some other game?

556 2/23/2021 5:22:00 PM Fall 1863 Union Message Clarification: I attack with 8 SP, 2 SP remaining in Knoxville. That wasn't very clear when I reread my post -- after posting, of course. Sorry.

555 2/23/2021 5:21:00 PM Fall 1863 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #36: 1 / Elite Units
Place an Elite unit marker in any space with an Army. CSA: Stonewall Bde or Hoodís Tigers. USA: Iron Bde or Wilderís Bde. Cannot be played if all elite unit markers are in play for that side.

Message from Union:

If you stand and fight, I will use only +3 to limit leader casualties.
Decide if you stand, modifiers, etc and roll if we are to fight a battle.
Thanks!
554 2/23/2021 4:55:00 PM Fall 1863 Confederate Message Just for the record. If things werenít as bad as they are for me I would not have risked that attack normally despite a possible bigger gain. Iím just trying a couple if things for the heck of it that could be fun if they worked.
553 2/23/2021 4:54:00 PM Fall 1863 Confederate Message It appears your cavalry general Pleasonton is killed and moved to turn 10 entry. Wish mine came back that quick!

You gain 3 SW for winning = 121+

I lose 5 SW and likely the game = 15-

I completely forgot about the intercept modifier or Iíd have held off, oh well. The die are still not helping either. And yes, I was trying to put you in a bad way as desperate times call for desperate measures.
I count you at 8 adds.
I have a paltry 6 incomparison.
Due to the size this may finish me off...your roll is first.
548 2/23/2021 2:44:00 PM Fall 1863 Union Message I just realized how important that intercept was, you dirty dog! This could have been very ugly for me indeed!
547 2/23/2021 2:43:00 PM Fall 1863 Union Message Forgot my cavalry leader has a 2 on defense, so a +3 for leaders. Total +7 and I will use it all
546 2/23/2021 2:39:00 PM Fall 1863 Union Message looks like I'm going to get my large battle after all. 11-10

537 2/23/2021 9:47:00 AM Fall 1863 Confederate Message Dude, you are right! While in the shower (I seem to have moments of clarity there) I realized I was confusing the cav mod withe the LOC mod. So, we both have 10ís and the Stonewall Brigade still goes away.
AoP drop to 9 SP
AoM drop to 4 SP

Now general casualties.
536 2/23/2021 7:34:00 AM Fall 1863 Confederate Message Morning, Marc, letís check the battle results at Knoxville.
You would have +5 adds for Grant and 2 generals. You exceed you LOC so Grantís attack factor is 1 instead of 3 + 2 generals = 3 total.
Your dr 5 + 3 = 8 = 2* steps.

I have 6 adds, not 7. Jacksonís 3 + 2 generals and Stonewall Brigade.
My dr 2 +6 = 8 = 3 steps.

AoP drops to 9. You bounce to Rodgersville and become 10 SP.
AoM drops to 5
South has Knoxville but the Stonewall Brigade goes away.

See what you think and let me know if Iím not thinking of something in relation to the attack and defense factors.
535 2/22/2021 10:01:00 PM Fall 1863 Union Message I figure you at a +7, so we each lose 3, but the +5 gives me the asterisk result.
Interestingly, as a large battle, we each would have lost 5 and I still would have won, so you made the better call, at least to that roll!

AoP 10; AoM 4. I assume you retreat to Cleveland.

Message from Union:
Thanks, man. I keep going back and forth, and agree with your analysis. Tempting to knock you down to a 2 or 3, but I'd almost certainly be a 6. 7 SP is a lot to lose. I also seem to have a better chance of actually taking Knoxville in a medium battle, which seems one of the interesting anomalies of the CRT.

So all that said, a medium battle in Knoxville, 1 SP remaining behind in Rogersville.
533 2/22/2021 9:17:00 PM Fall 1863 Union Message Now I feel like a weinie for wanting to scale back. Way too wrapped up in the game here. Tell you what -- you decide if you stand and fight if you want a large or medium battle. The large will almost surely give you SW, but also cost you more me. What would you do if you were me? I promise I will do the opposite.
532 2/22/2021 9:00:00 PM Fall 1863 Union Message If you don't mind, I'll scale back and fight a medium battle. You once told me it annoyed you when dan changed a move -- I hope this is minor enough to skate by. Leave a single SP in Rodgersville to make it 19.

531 2/22/2021 6:09:00 PM Fall 1863 Union Message What the heck, this is US Grant in command, the man who can face the grim arithmetic. The AoP will us its last movement point to attack Knoxville for a large battle if I count that correctly 13-7. Decide if you fight, and the modifiers you will use. You get a +2 as I am beyond my LOC at this point. I will use my whole +5

530 2/22/2021 4:35:00 PM Fall 1863 Confederate Message I do not intercept at Rodgersville.
529 2/22/2021 1:52:00 PM Fall 1863 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #28: 1 / Franz Sigel
Union immediately receives one SP in St. Louis, MO space if no Confederate SPs or fort are present, whether it is controlled by either side or neutral; OR Confederate plays card at the beginning of a battle and receives a +2 DRM in the battle.

527 2/22/2021 1:27:00 PM Fall 1863 Confederate Message I kept forgetting something and it finally hit me; loss of capital.
Loss of Richmond cost me 15 SW and I replace the capital during the political Phase of this turn.

South SW @18-
526 2/22/2021 1:22:00 PM Fall 1863 Confederate Message I bumped the submit button in the middle of my message.
JJ, Polk and Price come back on turn 10.

SW for the South - as Iíd said, you did the ANV destruction.
South SW @ 46Ė
-12 SW for resource loss
-1 SW for fort loss
South SW now @ 33-

North gains 12 SW for Richmond
North SW @ 104- +12 Resource +2 direction = 118+
525 2/22/2021 1:17:00 PM Fall 1863 Confederate Message This game could end pretty soon.
First, how many SP in your AoC? 5 is what I show now.

I was not using adds to roll enough to get a 10 and lose generals for the Richmond battle.

SW adjustments.
You got the destruction of the ANV. All generals but Forrest go on turb 10 track. He comes back in on turn 12.
524 2/22/2021 12:55:00 PM Fall 1863 Union Message Active AoP, all 5 SP
MV Richmond, destroy fort, 1 MP to convert resource space, drop 1.
MV Petersburg
MV Burkeville, Pick up 2 (6)
MV Appomattox
MV Lynchburg, incorporate 1 SP for 7 total in AoP.

You are up -- don't forget to tell me what you did in battle with AoC.
523 2/22/2021 12:42:00 PM Fall 1863 Union Message Loss of ANV = Southern SW 46-
522 2/22/2021 12:41:00 PM Fall 1863 Union Message Let me know if you you rolled a 10 for the two hits -- for now, I've reduced AoC to 3, back to Hanover at 5.

521 2/22/2021 12:39:00 PM Fall 1863 Union Message We each lost 1, but that means the ANV is removed from the map along with its generals. Nonetheless, there is no way for me to win the battle, the the empty fort remains in Richmond.

519 2/22/2021 12:32:00 PM Fall 1863 Union Message Activate AoC.

MV Attack Richmond w/4, leaving 2 in place in Hanover
518 2/22/2021 12:28:00 PM Fall 1863 Union Message Well, here's what happens when I stare at something long enough -- and remember the whole asterisk thing.
I am resending the whole first activation -- same basic move, but fine tuned a bit... if that's OK
517 2/22/2021 11:28:00 AM Fall 1863 Union Message The AoC would have left 1, backed up, and brought Curtis and the SP for 2 MP, so Richmond is attacked on the 3rd MP
516 2/22/2021 11:27:00 AM Fall 1863 Union Message Darn it, before you roll, I want to bring Curtis and the SP in Fr3dericksburg into the fight
515 2/22/2021 11:25:00 AM Fall 1863 Union Play Strategy card as Event #86: 3 / Minor Campaign
Conduct up to two moves or conduct one special army-size naval move. No SP, general, or army marker may be moved twice with the same campaign card. You must move a different force each move.

Message from Union:
OK, this has gone on long enough! Those Rebs are brave men and skilled fighters, but they must be destroyed!

Activate AoC in Hanover, attack Richmond. I attack at a +5. 1 for leader, 4 for force ratio. I will again have to defer to you regarding your modifiers and ask you to roll the dice...

510 2/22/2021 10:39:00 AM Fall 1863 Confederate Message Well, isnít that fun, we both get modified 10ís.

Oh, and bad enough youíre likely to take my capital, you have to do it with a card that would have given me 3 SP...boy! :)

North gets +7 adds, I did it wrong last battle.

South gets 8 dr adds...some leader is likely to die.

North roll first on a medium batlew
508 2/22/2021 10:24:00 AM Fall 1863 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #80: 1 / Southern Religious Revival
Confederate player immediately receives three SPs in a single space, and loses three SW points. SPs must be placed in a friendly controlled space (including Pro-Union spaces) with a LOC free of Union SPs.

Message from Union:
I think you're done, but if not these should not get in each other's way anyway.

Activate AoP. Leave 1 in Petersburg, MV Suffolk by rail, covert Suffolk, return to Petersburg.
Attack Richmond. I'll use everything -- +5 leaders, +2 for cutting LOC for a +7.
Please decide how much you will add to rolls and roll (One of those pairs of 1s would be OK this time)
507 2/22/2021 8:37:00 AM Fall 1863 Union Message It would help of course if I could write what I mean -- McKenzie and Paducah do NOT connect of course, despite what I wrote in my last note. Anyway, still puzzling over the interception note.
506 2/22/2021 8:34:00 AM Fall 1863 Union Message I would love to intercept, but don't see how that is possible. You just moved from a fort into a space that does connect to Paducah. Am I missing something?

505 2/22/2021 7:50:00 AM Fall 1863 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #1: 1 / Empty Haversacks
Can be played as an Interrupt card to cancel the activation of any Confederate force, OR during a Union player's turn to cause a Confederate force to immediately execute an attrition procedure. In addition, conduct Forage if force has no LOC.

Message from Confederate:
9C1 - 1 OPS

AoW @ 5 SP @ Clarksville
Move to McKenzie via Dover. Do you intercept?

Bye the way, I missed that the Union PC at Clarksville went away in the Political Control Phase - I missed it in my board positions. Itís nicely Southern now.
504 2/22/2021 7:13:00 AM Fall 1863 Confederate Message Do you realize that is 4 medium battles in a row Iíve rolled double 1ís? I tell you, dice donít like me. Grateful for the small losses for me but Iím not whittling you down worth a crap which is the forte for the South.

A correction to the battle dr mods for the South. I double-checked the ironclad rule after I rolled to make sure it didnít get killed. Low and behold I found it is only used in an amphibious assault! An incorrect rule understanding Iíve had for like four full and partial games. Man! So 2 dr adds for the South but it makes not difference in the battle outcome. Guess Iím kinda happy with the 1-1 roll this time.

We both generate a 1 step loss so you end up with 7 SP at Paducah and I have 1 SP at Columbus fort.

502 2/22/2021 7:06:00 AM Fall 1863 Confederate Message No, no interrupt card but I sure wish I did. Youíve done well with your Major Campaign. I believe my lack of manpower is going to show this turn in a big way. My not moving first last turn is looming very big. It might not have made a huge difference, itís hard to say. I was going to move the AoM to Lynchburg while converting Appomatox also. I was then going to run Longstreet down the valley to Knoxville to maintain a stopping for there. A case of walking in from my shop and deciding to so a move without taking the proper time to consider my move.
Battle for Columbus to come.
501 2/21/2021 10:12:00 PM Fall 1863 Union Message Er, Columbus, that is. All Hail Columbia!
500 2/21/2021 10:11:00 PM Fall 1863 Union Message Third activation:
Activate Pope 1 SP at Rolla (2nd SP stays put)
MV Springfield, pick up 1
MV Rolla
MV Ironton (2 there stay in place)
MV Cairo, pick up 4
MV Paducah (2 stay in place)
Attack Columbus w/6

I pause here because there is possible interception from Dover or possible interrupt card. (Which could also be played against my 2nd activation with Reynolds. Should you decide to do that, I would like to reconsider this activation.
Otherwise, please feel free to roll the interception and/or ensuing combat in Columbia.

494 2/21/2021 5:58:00 PM Fall 1863 Confederate Message Almost forgot. With the AoP taking 2 SP loss the Iron Brigade is removed because there were at least 2 steps lost.
