Hi Shannon You doing OK? Nothing much so far - just a bunch of time servers looking for commands. Still, at least the AoC now has some cavalry. Started a game with Rick Coyne. Tried playing duplicate at first, but he has a lot going on, so we cut it down to one. He wanted to play the CSA, but we've agreed several pro-CSA options. Weird game. The first turn used the all CPs from two ties; second turn finished early; third turn finished before I used any CPs. We're on the fourth turn now and the AoP is going walkabout in VA. File uploaded. All yours. |

On Sunday afternoon I was hiking with my older brother and his wife. He fell over and froze up and blood was coming out of his nostrils. We had no cell reception so rescue vehicles were delayed. I'm not sure if it would have made a difference as he died of hypertensive cardiovascular disease and Atherosclerosis. The grief has been really hard on me and others so it has been hard to concentrate on deep games. I am improving so I will get a move soon but wanted to explain the reason for my delay when I said I was going to move very soon. |

Have a good trip, and good luck with the job application. If you can access it, cannot recommend this series highly enough: https://www.itv.com/watch/mr-bates-vs-the-post-office/10a0469/10a0469a0001 It's based on real events and the whole country is in uproar over it, so much so that the government is rushing through a bill in an attempt to fix things. More than a week after it was first shown, it is still in the news every day. The real irony is that, judging from other stuff I've seen on youtube and else where, the reality is even worse than is shown. |

The weather over the holidays has been truly awful here (snow, ice, torrential rain, 80 mph winds), so didn't do much over the holidays, other than a few visits. But, on the good side, it gave me an excuse for playing some games and catching up on my reading. Seen KB's documentary a couple of times. In fact, it's showing on PBS America at 16:00 GMT. Worth watching for Shelby Foote alone. I don't have a view on whether Churchill was a war criminal, though I suspect plenty of allied leaders would have been judged guilty if the same standards had been applied to both sides. My problems with Churchill are the incompetence, the self-aggrandizement, the double standards and the lies. I don't really know enough about Viet Nam to have a view on Kissinger. However, it doesn't stop my being glad that Harold MacMillan and Harold Wilson kept the UK out of it. I was not impressed by Obama either. As far as most politicians are concerned, Plato nailed it a long time ago: "Those who seek power are not worthy of that power". |

Seems like an uphill battle to convince people that Churchill shouldn't be idolized. There's too much out there that already does so. Now, Kissinger as a war criminal, well, the US didn't idolize him. So people are attacking him now that he's dead though if there was a case wouldn't they have brought him to trial already? The southern states of the USA have always been demonized by the left. Since Obama became President back in the day it's obvious that more people in the southern states don't want to be held to old ideals. We're trying to bury history to make ourselves feel better. As long as some CSA monuments and statues remain in the parks I'm tolerant enough. The decision was already made and no one consulted me on bad decisions. |

I doubt most people in Glasgow know much about what the Confederate flag represents - its use is more likely to do with seeing it on TV and in movies. Also, the British don't place that much importance in flags, so removing the Stars and Bars wouldn't have concerned people that much. On the other hand, I don't see how removing artefacts changes anything that happened. Worse, it is too reminiscent of 1984 and the Soviet airbrushing of images to make me feel comfortable about it. |

The supplies didn't do Old Pete much good, but the Union camp is subdued by the loss of Hancock. Was he worth 20,000 Rebs? We'll have to see. You need to specify where I Corps is going to run, so will leave the initiative roll for you. |

Interesting read about how the CSA has impacted England. The country is pushing away its history arguably but one could make the case that the csa flag communicates ideals no longer acceptable. Though if one had an actual flag as a military relic nobody would understand that. |

All yours... >>> He's wimpy about leader losses. Created house rules to get around losing the best comms.<<< He's not the only one. But amazing how many were killed or wounded due to mix ups. Lots of Lovecraft stuff out there. BBC radio has dramatised "At the Mountains of Madness" and "The Shadow over Innsmouth". At college, knew someone who had a vinyl album of David McCallum reading "The Dunwich Horror". And, of course, there's "Herbert West Reanimator". The Necronomicon even makes it into "The Evil Dead". Also interesting is "The King in Yellow" - the style is very like Lovecraft's. If you're in the market for ghost stories, TalkingPicturesTV.co.uk (https://talkingpicturestv.co.uk/about-talking-pictures-tv/) is re-running old adaptations of MR James stories from Monday 11 December. If you can't get it in the States, they're on YouTube, see: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=m+r+James+ghost+stories+for+christmas These are good, too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3OFavKl0sKo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwY-u1pFFdM |
