The -1 casualty rule is immediately below the table on Tables > Leaders > Leader Promotion & Casualty > Historical Variant Leaders > Variant LP&C. It's also on the 190330 Standard Game Varaint (sic) page. Can't find it in the third-edition rules, though. |

Used to describe myself as the 134th most boring man in the country (the most boring man in the country sounds too interesting). Question for you: should we be using the -1 casualty roll modifier if a force is eliminated? Don't think it has come up until this turn, but it would have affected McDowell and Jackson. Far West is fun but it rarely gets used and the VPs for raids arguably give one side an edge. I almost feel it should be a mini-game with its own track. As the TM rarely gets used after Missouri converts I don't see any reason to add a fourth theatre. A French-Mexican alliance was of concern to the Union, especially as the FM alliance was likely to favor the CSA. |

But, talking of reading things. Do you remember our discussion on rehabilitating the FW option and the Red River Campaign? Have just read the main article in Strategy & Tactics 334 on a hypothetical war between the Union and Mexico/France and it gave the size of the French army at around 50000 (plus 6000 Belgians and Austrians), which means I got the numbers about right! Also, have started Edwin Fishel's "The Secret War for the Union: Untold Story of Military Intelligence in the Civil War". It's wordy, but so far it's worth the effort - it has some amazing information. (Either that or it's demonstrated how little I really know.) |

Re off-map cities in Texas: Although I agree that 9.4.9 implies supply from the off-map ports is only available when the Mississippi is cut, I'm pretty sure the CSA does receive import and production supply for off-map cities in Texas because of 9.4.4: "...On turn 1, the Imports marker is placed on the 140 space of the General Records Track. It starts there because the ports of Petersburg, Norfolk, and Pensacola are already lost due to the presence of Union controlled fortresses." If the 9 import points of Petersburg, Norfolk, and Pensacola are lost at the start of turn 1, the only way to reach an initial CSA supply total of 140 is to include the 7 import points of the off-map ports. In addition, 17.2.6 implies the CSA receives supply for off-map cities in all cases: "Texas can be converted regardless of whether or not the Far West map is being used. When the Far West map is not in use, the Union converts Texas by controlling all VP cities on the standard map. In that event, the CSA gets credit for the Imports and VP cities on the Far West Map, even if Texas is converted." However, happy to post a question on CSW/BGG if you'd like confirmation. |

Jackson could only retreat to 5210 because the AoP's move was 5110 > 5109 > 5209. (5309 is impassible, and 5310 is occupied.) CSA's import total is 37 - (37/5) = 30 (So far, only New Bern - 3 import points - has been blocked by capture.) |

Difficult to tell what the real position is on the possible use of nukes: The media exaggerate because they think it sells (as in the old maxim "if it bleeds, it leads"). It's also currently in the interest of many European governments to exaggerate the seriousness because it diverts public interest domestic problems. And then there are the advantages of ramping up a conventional war for oil/gas companies and the military-industrial complex. On the other hand, nukes are always bad for business, but, while the situation in Ukraine remains restricted, it is good for business. |

The Covid infection rate is continuing to fall over here (the last figure I heard was 1 in 50 of the population had it; don't know how many of those were vaccinated) and all legal restrictions have been lifted. The only concern now is over the Prime Minister and staff breaking lockdown laws and whether he should resign because of it. The press being the press, however, has found something else to worry people with: this time it's monkeypox and, once more, the WHO is doing a bang-up job (facepalm): https://uk.news.yahoo.com/monkeypox-cases-reported-could-peak-092458744.html That, and whether the Russians are going to use nukes. |

Have just opened your log and found I still can't reveal the Union priorities. What's more, I can't reveal the priorities in previous logs. The only thing I have done since yesterday is open your log file, so have to assume the log file is somehow causing the problem. However, am now certain the Union's turn 8 priorities were East 1/West 2/Trans 3, and can't face uninstalling/reinstalling again, so am just going to continue and hope for the best. |

No, but it is now past 21:00. Pretty sure the General Track is up-to-date (and includes the Union's bonus for capturing Richmond). There was only one table use on both turns 6 and 7. So far, there have been only two doubles for the entire game - and both those turns finished early - which is why the CP Table Total is so low and the Union has been so sluggish. |

Well, here's an interesting thing: I deleted the CW module, uninstalled and reinstalled VASSAL, and reinstalled the module. Now, I CAN reveal my Turn 9 priorities (as I thought, they are E1, W2, T3), but Whether that means some settings are persisting in the Registry even after an Uninstall, I don't know. Already tried updating my settings on the Preferences > Personal tab - no joy. :( I now think the problem is that I can't select "USA" in the Choose Sides page - the only options it gives are "Observer" and "Solitaire". (I also tried the Retire button in the toolbar, but the options are the same.) I don't see a setting for specifying the drop-down's options, so think something may have been corrupted. The only other thing I can think of is uninstalling/reinstalling VASSAL, but am not hopeful. Let's just go ahead with my using the same priorities as last turn. |

can you click file and preferences? That's where you login. Happy to continue otherwise. Just trying to help you get login as it's easier to play the game on your side. |

Yes, that's the problem - when I open the Civil War module in VASSAL, it goes straight to the side selection screen without giving me the option to log on. Have tried reinstalling the module, starting a new game, and opening a log file, but the login screen doesn't show up. |

You need to login to Vassal and then you can reveal your theatres for T8. If you do it as an observer then nothing is really saved. |
