Sherman doesn't have enough MPs to enter the swamp, so will end the impulse there. All yours. Leader exchanges: here's the full text on page 48 of the manual: Captured: The leader is captured. Place him on the opponent’s track for return in 3 turns unless exchanged for an opponent’s POW. Leaders are exchanged by order of capture without regard to rank. Captured leaders must be exchanged prior to turn 14; they may not be exchanged after Turn 14. Exchanged leaders are placed in the next turn’s pool. Union admirals involved in naval combat cannot be captured; ignore a “capture” result. And I really can't be sure what it is trying to say. To me, the two phrases in "Captured leaders must be exchanged prior to turn 14; they may not be exchanged after Turn 14" contradict each other. If I had to guess, I'd say exchanges can take place on turn 14, but I wouldn't put money on it. The second point is even more confusing. "Exchanged leaders are placed in the next turn’s pool" implies that a leader exchange occurs as soon as an enemy leader is captured, not on the following turn. That means a Confederate leader captured on turn 13 could be exchanged with a Union leader captured on turn 14, and they would both appear as reinforcements on turn 15. The alternative reading - that there must be a one turn gap between the exchange and the leaders appearing as reinforcements - seems even less likely. I don't really mind what the answer is; I just like to make sure we are singing from the same hymn sheet. |

Pemberton to 5412. So directly south of the city. He cannot win and no sense in giving Sherman a potential promotion. |

My opinion on captured leaders hasn't changed. There's a can do it, cannot do it and one turn in which you may do it. I would think prisoners are exchanged when a turn starts. Thoughts? |

Wasn't expecting a move so soon - are you on vacation? Haven't played Sword of Rome in years - can't remember much about it. There again, I don't play many Ancient era games. Not that I'm against them, it's just that they don't seem to do it for me. One way or another, have finished multiple games recently, so am currently only playing another (teaching) game of TCW, and Crusader from SPI's old North Africa Quad. (Crusader's not much of a simulation, but my opponent wanted to give it a go and it's simple, so we're plodding along in an ahistorical way.) Expect I'll start something else soon, but Summer is always a slow time for new games. I guess from what you have said, you have quite a few on the go? All yours. |

Oh yes... mostly, the weather isn't that bad here. We have the sea all around and we're on the business end of the Gulf Stream/North Atlantic Drift, so it doesn't get nearly as cold as the same latitude in Canada/Alaska. (It can get cold in the Cairngorms, but they're further south.) It doesn't usually get too warm either, but I see that as a good thing. The main thing up here is the wind. The highest recorded speed in mainland Scotland is 173 mph; in Shetland, it's 197 mph (at least, that's what the equipment recorded before it blew away.) |

There was a time I bought most everything GMT produced, but since they started putting out second and even third editions of games, I became more careful. Having said that, I think GMT's quality control is considerably better than Compass - I bought a few editions of Paper Wars, but didn't continue because the writing was so bad. Have also seen criticism of their remakes of old games. Hadn't heard of God Kings, though. (If you're interested in that sort of thing, there are some good documentaries on YouTube - for example, see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpAphcaVJIs) I have quite a lot of European wargames - some of SimTac's production values are on a par with Martial Enterprises'/Clash Or Arms' La Bataille series - and a few Japanese ones. Several have been picked up and reprinted by American companies, like MMP and COA, and GMT sell some, too. Guess I'll just have to order one of those Polish games and see what comes. |

Yep, I knew you knew Cleburne was going to get it, much the same way as I knew your reaction would be to reinforce Charleston. :) Still, can't complain about Lyon's cost effectiveness. Somehow, I managed to make the first roll for a leader twice without noticing. However, the second roll was Sherman, and I only took three leaders, so think there is no harm done. Otherwise, thought the Union had better free up some space in the shipyards and launch some boats. |

Replying to your comments on VPs here because it takes a bit of explanation... Union VPs If the Union has Strasburg, you're right about it having 50 VPs. However, I thought Morgan had retaken it. (Cavalry can convert cities in friendly territory - see 13.2.1). Confederate VPs The CSA receives one VP per unconverted border state per turn from turn 4 onwards (21.5.2). The Union didn't convert Ky until turn 6 (when Van Dorn failed to capture Paducah), so the CSA gets 2 VPs. The other 6 VPs are for Baltimore and Annapolis, though I wouldn't count on keeping them. :) On with the turn... |
