Nauru is not a port, so 3SN needs to use an ASP unless it moves origin > destination with a CA, CL or APD. Can you make these few corrections in a follow on file to your last one and send it to me? The reason I ask you to do so is that you will want to decide which unit to move instead of 31A. Or you can scrape your naval plan and move with all Army units. Hope you are OK with this suggestion. |
75 | 2/18/2021 10:43:00 PM | Jan-Apr 1943 | Allies | Message |
Nick, I apologize for sending the wrong file. I forwarded the correct file just now. However, it might be better if we just continued play from your last file. A couple of corrections to note in that one. First 8M was not eliminated. It returned to Oahu. If the covering naval gets eliminated, the ground forces return to point of origin. See rule 9.32,"If the Reaction player is the winner, Offensives ground units that entered the hex by Amphibious Assault do not take part in the ground battle and must later conduct post-battle movement out of the hex." Second, you are under ISR and cannot activate navy and army units on the same card play. Here is the rule on that, "14.2 Japanese Inter-Service Rivalry If Japanese Inter-Service rivalry is in effect the following conditions prevail: A. An HQ cannot activate both army and naval units in the same offensive or in reaction to the same offensive. B. The Japanese can only use one half (round up) of their total amphibious shipping points while this condition persists." |

#63: 2 / Kamikaze Attack Play prior to one battle of the Offensive that is within 11 hexes of Tokyo (3706) and within extended range of a Japanese air unit. The Japanese player eliminates two Allied naval steps (Japanese player's choice, may not eliminate a unit unless there is no other option), while reducing the Japanese air unit whose range was used one step (even if this would eliminate the air unit). No more than one Kamikaze per battle, but more than one Kamikaze per offensive is allowed. Draw One Strategy Card. Remove from play if used as an event. Special Reaction, rule 7.27. The reaction player creates the battle by rolling the die. If you have a reaction card to change the intel condition, you can play it unless you want to roll for the intel condition first. Per my earlier statement, some reaction cards can be played after the intel dr. |

Also note that failing the special reaction roll means Woodlark is not a battle hex, so the only battle to react to is in Attu. |
60 | 2/14/2021 8:37:00 AM | Jan-Apr 1943 | Allies | Message |
Note that certain reaction cards, such as Japanese card #13, allow play of the card after making an intel dr. In this case, the card text takes precedence over the normal procedure for intel condition. |

So, you've made two dr's, the one for the sub card, which although out of sequence, can stand, and another one, which we will apply to special reaction, following the sequence. Next, you should either play an appropriate reaction card or make an intelligence dr. |

Doh. Told you I would make some gaffes. Thanks for catching. Please return 1M to Cairns and move 2M from Guadalcanal to Espiritu. Regarding my card as an OC, correct there is one battle hex at Attu. If you successfully SR at Woodlark, it becomes a battle hex too, but not one I could have done as part of my offensive. If it does become a battle hex, I believe 2 MAW could participate per 7.27, page 15, "Any air and carrier units assigned to cover the landing in the hex where the new battle hex was created will take part in the battle in that hex." |

I think you're reaction moves 22/23/27 look good otherwise. I presume you are all right with vassal? To mark battles, select the battle hex marker (left click) and type the letter of the battle. To have units "join/leave" battle, select the unit (left click) and type the letter. Alternatively, select the unit, use keyboard Shift+b (join/leave battle) and type letter of battle. My understanding of the flow of moves is that attacker sets up card as I did. Reaction player does his movement, rolls dice for battles, makes battle results, makes assumed retreats, which opponent can correct later and sends move back so that attacker cen do Post-Battle movement. So, if you are cool with all that, go ahead and do your movement, perform battles etc. |

Correction on Alaska. I found a specific reference in the scenario rules, pasted below. Looks like you'll get the PW point if you control it at end of GT5. 17.38 I: The US Political Will stands at 6 PW (–1 VP), but Attu/ Kiska (hex 4600) has been occupied by the Japanese starting with the National Status Phase of game turn 3 (two turns at the start of the scenario). If the Allies do not control Attu/Kiska at the conclusion of game turn 5, as per 16.42, the Allies would lose one PW. Note: Attu/Kiska is not a named location and does not count toward PoW calculations. |

We are playing the 1943 3-turn scenario. Although the 1942 3-turn scenario is the default for this round, Jeffrey said if both players agree, any scenario can be played. Since you started the 1943 scenario, I assumed you wanted to play it, which is fine with me. |

Let's see PW is 6 with four countries surrendered and Alaska occupied. PW is +8 at 1942 start four countries surrendered, 8 - 4 = 4 Allies cards #1 and #6 have been played for events per rules 17.35. We know they were events, because they were removed from play. Both cards give Allies +1 PW. 4 + 2 = 6 The kicker is Alaska occupation. It must be occupied for three consecutive turns to get -1 PW. Since 1943 begins with Attu occupied, we assume it was captured in turn 4. Therefore, Japanese won't get the point until the Political Phase of turn 6. |

Nick, am reminded that there is an error in the Vassal setup for 1943. The 31A in Saipan should start at reduced strength. If you don't mind, and have not completed your move file, please make that change during your move. Thanks |

Even number of cards in 1943 means Allies go first. I will play my card after you draw cards. Also, I will send a vassal file so that we can keep the board position aligned. |
