307 3/26/2021 2:12:00 PM Spring 1863 Confederate Message 3* for South roll
2 for North roll
AoM drops to 2 SP
North is eliminated and McClellan goes to turn track.

Good moves on your part. That Maj Camp I think did me in. That card timed now and the loss of Memphis and Columbus so early were hard to overcome and I donít think I can.

Youíre playing the North well and Iím not sure if Iím playing the South that badly or if, lacking several reinforcement cards early, the South just canít beat the North when played correctly. With the blockade at 5 I donít really think I have a chance of beating you due to the SW loss each turn with almost half the game left.

Let me decide if I wish to continue if thatís okay with you. IĒm tired and sleepy right now (did not sleep well) and I need to got sit and nod off. (Geez I feel like an old man saying that!).

296 3/25/2021 10:31:00 AM Spring 1863 Confederate Message Hey Marc! Yes, I calculate the SW as a 16 cost also and Iíve never appreciated be called ďdastardlyĒ so much in my life! :). Youíre making my life difficult in the west between my bad move decision at the beginning and then that darn Red River cad and fort. That combo really sucks so youíre doing good.
North SW @ 128- minus 16 leader changes = 112-

You donít have to worry about SW at this point, you are doing well. Iím hurting over the blockade closures and you getting the Blockade level to 4 so early, thatís really costing me and will likely lead to my defeat.

Glad to hear the shot did not bother you much. I know of another person who had the 2nd shot as we did and they had a rough several days also.

Iím going to be takin it easy today as I did a lot of squatting and lifting yesterday and my back is letting me know about it. I do hope to feel well enough to keep my moves up today. Will let you now if I just need to chill.

295 3/25/2021 8:20:00 AM Spring 1863 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #58: 2 / Admiral Porter
Union may make a naval move with up to three SPs plus one general. If an amphibious assault occurs, you receive an additional +2 DRM. Add +2DRM to any Running the Guns die roll.

Message from Union:
Good morning!

Other than a sore arm, I'm feeling pretty good at 20 hours post-shot. What's got me worried are your depredations at Harper's Ferry. I need that general out west -- he fights -- and only he can stand up to Bobby Lee.

So we are transferring Grant to the AoP, reliving McDowell, and promoting Halleck to command of the AoT. I think that's backwards from the way it is described in the rules, but sounds better in Lincoln's Official Proclamation for the occasion.

Here are the costs as best I can figure:
8 for relieving Grant at AoT
2 for promoting Halleck over Fremont
6 for relieving McDowell -- who goes to the thrown record track for reentry next turn.
I don't pay anything for McClellan, as that applies only when creating a new army (Penalty Summary following 5.61)

Total: 16 SW (Oh well, that's what it is for, right?)

I'll wait to hear from you before we update the SW, but feel free to go ahead with your play either way. A politician must do what a politician must do after that dastardly attack (good move) you made.
294 3/24/2021 3:42:00 PM Spring 1863 Confederate Message Iíve been working in the garage most the day and I just came in and saw I had not sent the last part of my move! It had timed out and was just sitting there. Sorry!

290 3/24/2021 7:56:00 AM Spring 1863 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #59: 2 / Farragut
Union may make a naval more with up to three SPs plus one general. Move may pass one ungarrisoned fort without ďrunning the gunsĒ to conduct an amphibious assault (may not pass an ironclad). Ignore first torpedo encountered during naval move. If the port space is captured it immediately receives a Union PC marker. Add +2 to Running the Guns die roll.

289 3/24/2021 7:54:00 AM Spring 1863 Confederate Message Marc, I found an error on my board I wanted to check with you on.

Lewisburg W. Va., is the spot. I have a Union PC on it that should be a Southern PC at this time. If you look at journal 251 and 253 you can see I left 1 SP there and failed to catch it during my position update. The PC was covered with the SP and I didnít notice it.

Let me know if you concur sir.
288 3/23/2021 5:50:00 PM Spring 1863 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #73: 1 / Ball's Bluff
The Union removes one SP (Confederate chooses) within two spaces (including a river connection) of a Confederate SP due to poor leadership. A Union SP can be removed from a Coastal fort.

286 3/23/2021 12:53:00 PM Spring 1863 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #26: 3 / Cotton is King
If played by Union, reduce Confederate SW by 2; if played by Confederate, Confederate immediately receives two SPs in any Blockade Runner port, no more than one SP per port, but more than 1SP per Blockade zone is permitted. If insufficient ports are available, the excess SPs are lost. Remove from deck if event is played.

Message from Union:
Create the Army of Tennessee at Memphis. US Grant commanding. Pleasanton cavalry, Halleck, Fremont subordinate generals. 5 SP.

285 3/23/2021 11:15:00 AM Spring 1863 Confederate Message First of all, no problem being a stickler with the rules. I am and itís the way we need to be to keep everything up front and in balance!
I will remove that SP at Mobile and thanks for jogging my memory. I just happy about taking it and the PC didnít enter my mind. So, all fixed!
284 3/23/2021 10:04:00 AM Spring 1863 Union Message Not to be a stickler, but I do question the placement in Mobile. I'm thinking the PC determines "control" of the space, regardless of your SPs. At least that's how I recall it. Thoughts?
283 3/23/2021 9:44:00 AM Spring 1863 Confederate Play Strategy card as Event #17: 3 / CSA Purchasing Agent

280 3/23/2021 7:36:00 AM Spring 1863 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #67: 2 / J.B. Eads, Riverine Ironclads

279 3/23/2021 7:25:00 AM Spring 1863 Confederate Message Morning Marc! Very unfortunate for me that you to get that card now of all times.

I agree with your move but I do need a clarification as l can interpret you sentence on PC placement two ways. I assume you mean the PC marker goes in Shreveport, not Grand Ecore? As I read the card I understand it to say the PC must go in the space the SP is in.
278 3/22/2021 9:31:00 PM Spring 1863 Union Message Of course, I suppose you could have a cancel card that turns the tables!
277 3/22/2021 9:20:00 PM Spring 1863 Union Play Strategy card as Event #14: 3 / Red River Campaign
May not be discarded by the Union. Union must use this card as an OC. If at the conclusion of movement, a Union SP is not on or adjacent to Grand Ecore, LA, then the Union loses 5 SW points. If a Union SP is in one of the objective spaces then a Union PC marker can immediately be placed to convert the space or spaces. Remove from deck if Union plays card.

Message from Union:
I love it that I get to play this card in this manner, and thank the wargame deities.
Naval Move: Burnside, 3 SP to Shreveport up the Red River. As it is adjacent to Grand Encore, I believe the card also lets me put a PC marker there right away.
Your move if you agree.
If you don't agree, it OK, let me know, but that seems to me the meaning of the card, which I never had to think about in quite this detail before, right?
276 3/22/2021 4:40:00 PM Spring 1863 Confederate Message 2nd activation of Minor Campaign

You win but I occupy the space and I have to stop because you had a general there.
A. Johnston ends up with 4 SP and in Nacogdoches.
Rosecrans returns on turn 7
I had considered attacking Sabine next but not so it seems.

I think you can see why I never took up gambling as a living. The world of chance is generally not my friend. At least I got the space. My die rolling is your best friend! :)

Iím enjoying playing regardless but it just makes me shake my head when I get a run like I have the last two games. I guess the bright side is that when chance finally swings my way, youíre in trouble!!

246 3/20/2021 11:46:00 AM Fall 1862 Confederate Message There I go. Roll doubles again the worst possible result for me...

I win the battle but Fremont went dow swinging. I lose 3 SP and drop to 3 SP. Seems even if I win I lost in some way.

You are eliminated and lose the fort since I got an asterisk. Fremont goes to the turn track for tuen 7.

I will convert Columbus to Southern control with my 4th mp.

Then I will leave 1 SP in McKenzie which drops the AoM to 2 SP and move the AoM to McKenzie.

Your go...so much for my plans.

4. Attack Columbus 3 to 1 odds.

Do you have a stopper card?
243 3/20/2021 8:50:00 AM Fall 1862 Union Message Sorry, I always want to forget that. To fix the move, leave Little Mac in Cairo with 1 SP. That means Pope ending in Ironton with 1 SP instead of 2.
242 3/20/2021 7:39:00 AM Fall 1862 Confederate Set Deck Reshuffle Deck will be reshuffled before next deal
241 3/20/2021 7:38:00 AM Fall 1862 Confederate Message Morning Marc! Comment on your last move. You activated Pope with that 2 OPS instead of Little Mac. If I understood your move correctly (it was well written so I think I did) you had Mac in tow. 5.32 says the highest ranking has to be activate if you move those two generals together. I figure you had a brain hiccough if I understood the activation and move correctly.

Almost forgot to mention in my last play. The deck will reshuffle because I played Foreign Intervention as an OPS.
240 3/19/2021 6:42:00 PM Fall 1862 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #74: 2 / Political Crisis

236 3/19/2021 9:54:00 AM Fall 1862 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #82: 3 / Foreign Intervention - Reshuffle/Remove
Either player can play this card as an EC when Confederate SW is 110+. If this is the last card in a players hand or the second to last and the player holds the Emancipation Proclamation, if the condition is met, it must be played as an EC, if not it can be played as an OC. EFFECTS: 1. Union Blockade reduced by one (cannot become greater than 4 for the remainder of the game). 2. Union -2 SP Reinforcements for the remainder of the game (Union choice). 3. Union SW reduced by 10. Remove from deck if event is played. If card is played as an OC or discarded re-shuffle deck at end of the Strategy Phase.

Union immediately receives one SP in St. Louis, MO space if no Confederate SPs or fort are present, whether it is controlled by either side or neutral; OR Confederate plays card at the beginning of a battle and receives a +2 DRM in the battle.

Message from Union:
Play as event -- place an SP in St Louis
234 3/18/2021 3:47:00 PM Fall 1862 Confederate Message Thanks to the honorable Marc I correct my move. I should have had +2 more adds in the battle at Marshall which then eliminated the Union 2 SP that were there and I still lose 1 SP.

Longstreet leaves 2 SP at Marshall and returns to Vicksburg with 3 SP.

He leaves 1 SP in Vicksburg and continues to Jackson with the remaining 2 SP.

Thanks again, Marc, very much. I really hurt myself in that area when I didnít use Johnston to pick up some SPís at Vicksburg and return to Nacogdoches. Seems obvious, I was just having an off morning.
233 3/18/2021 11:49:00 AM Fall 1862 Union Message Hey buddy, good news. You may not have noticed the SP in Marshall had no LOC, (also why I didn't try to intercept) so you add a couple more to that roll of yours. The force is destroyed, and you can keep moving if you like.

232 3/18/2021 10:52:00 AM Fall 1862 Confederate Message Well, the die continue to resent me as I get the one result I could not win with. We both lose 1 SP, Longstreet now @ 5 SP & North at 1 SP. Longstreet force at Shreveport.

Kinda sucks...

Got the 2nd covid shot todayt. They had messed things up as to times and so forth but we at least got the shot!
223 3/16/2021 8:44:00 AM Fall 1862 Union Message CSA lose 2, Johnston goes on the TRT for return next turn.
Rosecrans loses 1 SP to 5 SP. Attack Marshall with 5 SP. Union +5, CSA +2 (LOC)
I don't see any reason to roll the dice, as we will each lose 1, but I occupy space without fort or leader so I may continue movement (7.33C).
Leave 1 SP in Marshall, MV Rosecrans and 3 SP to Nagadoches and stop.
(I also recall you saying that capitals and resource centers were a special case, but I can't find anything on that. I'll stop here and make sure we are on the same page before going any further.)
