Yup.. Took me a while, but very elegant. Size of force determines size of loss, makes perfect sense in that respect.

A big demoralized army will lose more than a small demoralized force.

And most battles don't go 5 rounds. A Demoralized result usually comes along sooner.

Now 1812 is different animakl.. Russian are Morale 3 in Russia, and Fre have lots of Guard, so some 3 vs 3 battle, where D1 result ships away, even D2 can sometimes be withstood, and if fresh reinforcements arrive, remove the "d" marker and start over . . . .

all quite elegant, simple, but elegant.

I just got it bassackwards . . .. .Doh!!!!!!!

So Nappy+12 & Davout+4 & Soult+4 = 16 - 2 lost in battle = 14, all advance, so now Nappy =14 in Vienna.

And you can still get a 1-1. And don't forget to take the 1 replacement in Budapest, giving you 4 very important SP there at start of turn.

They reinforced the battle at start of 2nd round (able to do so cuz they were adj to Napoleon). But they did not move since they were adjacent to one of the two hexes where battle started.

Thus when Alied army was defeated and retreated, any/all units, regardless of location, that were engaged in the battle could hop on over to Vienne.

Hence my comment about what gping oln between the hexes.

Perhaps a better mechanic would be for Massena+5, once the successfully rolled to reinforce, should be place added to any stack itself already adjacent to Vienna, but that's not what the rules say.

Otherwise a unit who might have won a battle in Prague could leap across the country into Vienna.

Or have I just misunderstood the situation you were describing?

Interestingly, Allies can still mount a 1-1 vs Vienna, led by Charles (including the 4 in Budapest . . bringing them up gets you to 15).

And then there's the Dec winter turn where Nappy will likely lose as least 3 to attrition.

So defenders of Vienna get D1, which reduces morale by 1.

Losses on 11 column: Frogs -2, Allied -5 (one of which must be cav = Ru Gd Cav).

Allies take all losses from Austrians, do not have to take any from Rus, rule is that at least half of losses have to be take from troops with morale used, so take 'em all from Aus.

Now, Vienna is 3 Aus, 2 Ru Reg, and 1 Ru Gd, so moral is still based on Austrians = 1, but D1 reeuces to Zero. So force must withdraw, and lose and factor due to Fr having more cav.

So Aus-Rus down to 5. . . . .

The results table look tame, but when a D2 or D3 happens, it can get ugly quick.

Now I see that it (primarily) is to disrupt supply lines. Slowly... step by step...

Vienna has option (only D1)

now, as I see it, Mack could withdraw from current battle in hiopes of joing battle for Vienna.

So first you, thn me, do voulntary withdrawals.

The we do reinf. Meaning, if Mack successfully withdraw, the he can attempt to reinf Vienne because he would be adj to an hex (Napoleon's) which was one of the two hexes where battle originated.

See Rules N.7 a. and b.

So, let me know if you want to retreat Vienna or Mack, then I do mine, then you do reinf attemptsd, then me.
