(Rome) The Roman Player receives four CUs in Latium if it contains no Carthaginian CUs. May only be played if Carthage currently controls three or more provinces in Italy.

This is a pretty interesting situation.

Message from Carthage:

277 9/17/2021 11:49:00 AM 211-210 BC Rome Message Yes 20 in Mutina. And sadly not only will they stay there but also no 2nd general will move as I mucked up my consul placement locations unfortunately.
276 9/17/2021 11:45:00 AM 211-210 BC Carthage Message Do I read correctly that there are 20 CU in Mutina, or did I make an error on my board again?
275 9/17/2021 11:42:00 AM 211-210 BC Carthage Message OK. Kinda wish I have flipped Hadrumentum instead of Icosium now.

It's a campaign, so ball is still in your court.
274 9/17/2021 11:29:00 AM 211-210 BC Rome Message Will back up.

259 9/7/2021 10:37:00 AM 213-212 BC Rome Message Fabius is PC. 5 reinforcements to Rome n10.
258 9/7/2021 10:36:00 AM 213-212 BC Rome Message Mago still needs an attrition roll.

Because Marcellus was a consul he needed to maintain his 5CU requirement. I'll have to research though if he could have intercepted with 4 when the interception would bring him back to 5.
257 9/7/2021 10:28:00 AM 213-212 BC Carthage Message Carthage Naval Victory expires.

Carthage Reinforcements.
2 with Hanno, now 5e2.
2 in NC, now 3.

Hasdrubal and 10 in Dianium.
Mago and 1 in Icosium.
Hannibal and 15e1 in Verona.

Over to you for Consuls, etc.

256 9/7/2021 10:23:00 AM 213-212 BC Carthage Message 2 lost to 3e2.

Also, the province count is 9-8 in favor or Rome, so I have to take 1 for political consequences. Remove Arsa.

Message from Carthage:
Attrition for Hanno and his 5e2 in Had.
254 9/7/2021 10:17:00 AM 213-212 BC Carthage Message It is startling all the intricacies to be considered for battle in this game. I never feel like I am making the best play, though I got lucky this time (other than the 50/50 intercept by Marcellus).

In retrospect, I wonder if your best strategy would have been to intercept with only a smaller force of 2 (leaving 3 in Carthage and defending with 3 in Had). You would not much chance to cause attrition to Hanno, but if you had declined to defend my first card, you would have had a 1/3 chance to lose only 1 in the battle (and then another in retreat), but (if I read the rules correctly) that retreat could have been, and I think had to be, to CARTHAGE, which is a legal stopping point because you would have met with a larger force. In that situation, Marcellus would still be around, and worst case there are still CUs in Carthage if you get a campaign next turn.

Not that would have worked with the dice as-rolled, but something to think about (and that I failed to think about).
253 9/7/2021 9:39:00 AM 213-212 BC Rome Message Wow. I continue to learn more things about this game!

Ok the 3rd PC loss then would be Araceli as it was then available before isolation.
252 9/7/2021 9:20:00 AM 213-212 BC Carthage Message As I learned to my chagrin in a recent game, Hanno's ability only works if he doesn't fight a battle. You may revise your PC removal choice.
251 9/7/2021 9:07:00 AM 213-212 BC Rome Message Well shit. Your attrition and reinforcements.
250 9/7/2021 9:07:00 AM 213-212 BC Rome Die roll request Request: 6-sided die x 1

Message from Rome:
Hanno's ability would remove the PC anyway if there? Well yeah Scipio will hopefully help. Him joining Marcellus already in Africa would have been ideal.

Attrition @ Carthage.
249 9/7/2021 1:00:00 AM 213-212 BC Carthage Message 3. Also, CU in Carthage has to roll for attrition.
248 9/7/2021 12:57:00 AM 213-212 BC Carthage Message 1. If you take PC loss in Hadrementum, won't that save Hanno from an attrition roll?

2. Doesn't Africanus show up next turn? If you get a campaign, I think the odds are rather against Carthage.
247 9/7/2021 12:55:00 AM 213-212 BC Rome Message And really I just needed either 1 less attrition or retreat casualty to keep Marcellus around in Africa so that's too bad.
246 9/7/2021 12:52:00 AM 213-212 BC Rome Message So I'll just need Marcellus elected consul again, a campaign card, no nonsense response cards in your hand plus a roll of a 6 to put this away? Seems feasible.
245 9/7/2021 12:50:00 AM 213-212 BC Rome Message End of round is isolation in Aracelli and Isere. Mago has to roll for attrition.
244 9/7/2021 12:48:00 AM 213-212 BC Rome Message PC losses would be Hadremetum, Thevistis, and Thamugadi.
243 9/7/2021 12:47:00 AM 213-212 BC Rome Message So 2 attrition losses. Then I take 3 from the retreat table leaving 1. But then he dies crossing Zama which unfortunately displaces Marcellus I believe.

My fault on the misdeal so I'll give you your choice. Pitch your last card or order a re-deal.

221 9/5/2021 9:54:00 PM 213-212 BC Rome Message No the 5 CU intercepting +1 already there (that would have been overrun) = 6. And when Marcellus first sailed 1 CU stayed behind in Carales in case that is the disconnect.
220 9/5/2021 7:25:00 PM 213-212 BC Carthage Message Yes, but there was one there already that you saved from overrun, correct.
219 9/5/2021 6:41:00 PM 213-212 BC Rome Message I just had 6 CU since 1 didnít intercept?
218 9/5/2021 6:37:00 PM 213-212 BC Carthage Battle Hands dealt Battle 4

217 9/5/2021 6:37:00 PM 213-212 BC Carthage Message So I count battle cards as

213 9/5/2021 4:52:00 PM 213-212 BC Carthage Play Strategy card as Operations #26: 3 / Syracuse Allies with Carthage
(Carthage) You immediately gain control of Syracuse (any Roman units inside are eliminated. Syracuse provides a -1 modifier for Sea Movement

Message from Carthage:
Too early in the game to play this event anyway.

This is going to be exciting. Hanno and 7e2 to Thev-Thap-Hadrumentum to overrun. I'll let you roll your own interception. If it fails, Hanno will continue to attack into Carthage. If it succeeds, you may roll for the elephants.
212 9/5/2021 11:26:00 AM 213-212 BC Rome Play Strategy card as Operations #41: 1 / Bad Weather
(Both) Play immediately after opponent has moved but before combat. Contrary to his expectations, his General has only move two spaces - return him to the second space he entered.

Message from Rome:

211 9/4/2021 12:03:00 PM 213-212 BC Carthage Message Sorry. I meant the TRUCE is broken, not the siege.
210 9/4/2021 12:02:00 PM 213-212 BC Carthage Play Strategy card as Event #17: 1 / Surprise Sortie
(Both) Remove 1 Siege Point from any one Walled City

Message from Carthage:
This was a really tough call, but I think it is best to try to try to snuff out Marcellus's force now rather than let him reinforce/campaing/escape at the start of next turn. So many angles to consider. I might be making the wrong choice.

Remove 1 point from Carthage. The seige is broken. hope you haven't concealed another Campaign in your hand.
209 9/3/2021 3:52:00 PM 213-212 BC Rome Play Strategy card as Operations #28: 2 / Hannibal Charms Italy
