194 8/31/2021 8:23:00 PM 213-212 BC Rome Message I have 10 via these:

133 5CU to Rome
149 P Scipio and 7 to Rome n12. Longus and 5 sail away n7.
180 3CU to Rome n10

193 8/31/2021 6:29:00 PM 213-212 BC Carthage Message Sorry for the hiatus. Just did a massive update of the board position after several moves from memory.

Question: Are there really 10 CU in Rome. My board only had 2 there through the end of last turn, as Marcellus had sailed away with 5. I haven't counted through the whole journal to check, but it seems like there should be 5 there now.
192 8/27/2021 11:52:00 AM 213-212 BC Rome Play Strategy card as Operations #1: 3 / Corsica and Sardinia Revolt
(Both) If your opponent has control of Corsica/Sardinia, remove all his PCs in that province which are not stacked with his CUs.

(Carthage) If you use this card as an OC for Sea Movement and carry no more than 3 CUs plus a General, you do not have to roll on the Naval Combat Table if you embark or debark at either Brundisium, Croton or Tarentum

Message from Rome:
CU for Marcellus n7
189 8/27/2021 11:14:00 AM 213-212 BC Carthage Play Strategy card as Event #29: 2 / Carthaginian Naval Victory
(Carthage) For the rest of the year a -1 die roll modifier for naval movement applies, and Roman Naval Movement is limited to Minor or Major Campaign Strategy Cards.

Message from Carthage:
188 8/27/2021 10:57:00 AM 213-212 BC Rome Play Strategy card as Operations #6: 1 / Marharbal's Cavalry
(Carthage) Play during any battle. You may use this card as a Double Envelopment BC which (if matched) does not automatically give the defender the initiative.

Message from Rome:
Araceli and Isere were also isolated. So let's use this to replace Araceli.
187 8/27/2021 9:27:00 AM 213-212 BC Carthage Message Rome can go first.

2 CU in Carales n6
3 CU in Rome n10
179 8/27/2021 8:56:00 AM 215-214 BC Rome Message Opposing Fleet Breaks Siege? Luckily it's a thinner discard pile.
178 8/27/2021 8:55:00 AM 215-214 BC Rome Message What card was your last discard? It doesn't show with a discard rather than a play of it.
177 8/27/2021 8:45:00 AM 215-214 BC Carthage Message Actually, let's make that
1 with Hasdrubal 10.
1 in New Carthage.

174 8/27/2021 8:33:00 AM 215-214 BC Carthage Play Strategy card as Operations #39: 3 / Minor Campaign

(Both) Move any General up to six spaces.

Message from Carthage:
Sigh. Thought about running GIsgo behind Paulus, but the pay-off is too small. Hannibal could try to attack from Paulus's rear, but best case scenario is 14-18 which seems sketchy even for Hannibal. I'll just reinforce.

Hannibal 11e1
172 8/26/2021 2:26:00 PM 215-214 BC Rome Play Strategy card as Operations #60: 1 / Storms At Sea
(Both) Play after your opponent moves an Army or CUs using Sea Movement. The force suffers Attrition and the die roll must be modified by +2.

Message from Rome:
Another PC in the ocean. Ok let's see your master plan.
171 8/26/2021 1:49:00 PM 215-214 BC Carthage Play Strategy card as Operations #30: 3 / Carthaginian Siege Train
(Carthage) Place the Siege Train Marker with any Carthaginian General. A General with the Siege Train ignores the -1 die roll modifier applied against Carthaginian sieges.

Message from Carthage:
Add CU to Hannibal now 10e1.
170 8/25/2021 5:32:00 PM 215-214 BC Rome Play Strategy card as Operations #10: 2 / Macedonian Reinforcements
(Carthage) Place two Carthaginian CU's in any friendly controlled port in Africa or Italy. May only be played while Philip V of Macedonia is allied with Carthage.

Message from Rome:
flip Carales. Toss other PC in the ocean.

Lol that message was sent at with the messenger steal so that message would be there regardless of the card pulled.
169 8/25/2021 5:19:00 PM 215-214 BC Carthage Message OK. Same card play but Hannibal strolls over to Insubrians alone, chats with the tribe, then comes back to Verona. (Basically a discard.)
168 8/25/2021 5:17:00 PM 215-214 BC Carthage Message Ah, you fooling me by appearing to lament the loss of the card, so I thought it was one the could hurt me in Cisalpinia without even reading it. I could use one of those friendly tribe cards from Cis.
167 8/25/2021 3:23:00 PM 215-214 BC Rome Message Mutina is in Gallia Cisalpania. Gallia Transalpinia is the region north of Massilia.
166 8/25/2021 3:20:00 PM 215-214 BC Carthage Message Paulus now 14 CUs.

163 8/25/2021 3:14:00 PM 215-214 BC Rome Play Strategy card as Operations #56: 2 / Grain Shortage

Message from Rome:
Makes sense for elephants. Longus and all to Carales.
162 8/25/2021 3:11:00 PM 215-214 BC Carthage Play Strategy card as Event #12: 2 / African Reinforcements
(Carthage) Place one Elephant unit (at strength level 2) in Carthage. If an Elephant unit is not available, place two regular CUs in Carthage

Message from Carthage:
Even though vassal allows arbitrarily many elephants, I assume there are officially 2 elephant counters in play now, and so this will have to be for 2 normal CUs in Carthage.
161 8/25/2021 2:08:00 PM 215-214 BC Rome Play Strategy card as Operations #31: 1 / Spanish Allies Desert

(Both) Pick either Western or Eastern Numidia and remove all your opponent's PCs in that province which are not stacked with his CU's.

Message from Carthage:
Was definitely a good idea to attack. You have the men in place to take the attrition and Hannibal doesn't quite yet.

To that end ... add 1 CU with Hannibal, now 10e2.

I was holding this back on the assumption that you had a card to clear out one of my provinces. I think there were two still in the deck.

Hanno and 4e2 remain in HR.
112 8/19/2021 5:41:00 PM 216 BC Rome Message Ok. My recollection was that the bonus didn't apply based on how Stuart rules on it as the WBC . Will roll with it though, especially that it's cleaner that way.

I volunteered to do the in progress living rules for Mr. Madison's War so I'm painfully aware of how nuanced these things can get.
111 8/19/2021 5:36:00 PM 216 BC Carthage Message Need to think. Probably move later tonight.
110 8/19/2021 5:34:00 PM 216 BC Carthage Message Tim's answer is very probably the result of a past adjudication by a higher power. I agree that the precise wording in the (2nd edition) rules ("in a battle CAUSED by a successful interception ...") implies that alternative (i.e. not caused) does not get a bonus. But often casual phrasing winds up not capturing the intent of the designer and rules get clarified. Tim is pretty plugged into that for HRC (as I am for TS).

I could point out to you cases in TS where the official ruling runs counter to the the rulebook in ways that just drive me nuts. Don't get me started on WWBY, which acquired additional card text in Deluxe to justify an truly awful ruling that Randy Pippus and I we quite voluble about.
109 8/19/2021 4:10:00 PM 216 BC Rome Message That was supposed to be "I saw Tim's response and think it is officially wrong, but personally I prefer that answer lol."
108 8/19/2021 4:09:00 PM 216 BC Rome Message I saw Tim's response is officially wrong, but personally I prefer that answer lol. As long as we apply it consistently matters the most!

So in the face of 2 more BC my army will back-up.
107 8/19/2021 3:51:00 PM 216 BC Rome Message I probably should not have gotten the bonus in Africa for it since there were 2 CU there that could not be overrun. If there is ever an overrun situation otherwise I think the bonus kicks in again since there would be no battle there if an overrun.
106 8/19/2021 3:41:00 PM 216 BC Carthage Message I thought there was an intercept bonus as well. Need to check the rules.
105 8/19/2021 3:15:00 PM 216 BC Rome Message If I stay the Gisgo intercept would just be 1 more BC for the CU since Hannibal was already there?
104 8/19/2021 3:05:00 PM 216 BC Carthage Message Success. I think we are all out of battle cards. I you stay, you may roll my elephants.
