981 11/27/2023 4:27:00 AM Turn 9 United Kingdom Message Final UK Card. Henry Wilson a 2. Was tempted to use his A-Bomb bonus but that would leave it more open for the Soviets to nab.

Move Soviet Directed Offensive from USA 1 to UK 1.
980 11/24/2023 7:36:00 AM Turn 9 Soviet Union Message No debate from USSR so it's the UK to debate or advance an issue.

973 11/18/2023 7:47:00 AM Turn 9 United States Message After each use has to roll.

Does this count as a 'use'?

If so need to roll D2

968 11/16/2023 7:04:00 AM Turn 9 United States Message NO DEBATE
967 11/15/2023 1:09:00 PM Turn 9 Soviet Union Message USSR does not debate the UK play either.

USSR plays Andrei Zhdanov to advance the US Production issue. He's a 2 with a +2 for Production issues so the US Production issue moves from the centre of the table to the USSR-4 space.

Any debate?
966 11/13/2023 6:34:00 AM Turn 9 United States Message NO US Debate
965 11/13/2023 2:56:00 AM Turn 9 United Kingdom Message New email seems to be working now and attaching a file is easier.

Sir Hastings Ismay. 4 with a +1 for Churchill being active (he is but is marginalised).

1/2 Pol-Mil from middle to UK 5.
964 11/12/2023 6:07:00 PM Turn 9 Soviet Union Message USSR does not debate the USA play, so it's the UK to advance an issue.
963 11/12/2023 10:35:00 AM Turn 9 Soviet Union Message Yes. You place the DO marker in a Front's entry space.

If that's a land space then I have to use my points to place two offensive support markers in that space.

If it's an amphibious space then I have to use my points to place naval support in the theatre box until there are three naval support there and then place offensive support in the Front's entry space.

In either case those must be the first points I spend. I'm away from the map at the moment, but I think that your theatre boxes both have at least three naval markers so I'd be placing offensive support markers.

I'll be making my decision about debating your play later today once I can see the board and my cards.
962 11/12/2023 7:26:00 AM Turn 9 United States Message Just so I'm clear - I can 'ask' (require) Soviet placement of 2 of their offensive markers in say Marianas for example?
961 11/12/2023 2:40:00 AM Turn 9 United Kingdom Message Soviets can decide to debate US play, otherwise it is the turn of UK.

I seem to be up and running with the email switch, once the new account had been unblocked for 'suspicious activity'. That means sending emails to you and Dan.
960 11/12/2023 2:38:00 AM Turn 9 United Kingdom Message Bob, what the Directed Offensive marker allows if you win it:

4.23.1 Directed Offensive Placement. Each player who won a Directed Offensive (6.7) issue now must place that issue on any Front entry space on the map, regardless of who controls that Front. [Not Arctic and I believe we are now restricted to Pacific.]

A DO requires TWO production makers to be allocated to that Front. 6.4 1.

6.7 includes: Each Directed Offensive issue requires the flag owner [So USSR here] to allocate production markers to place two offensive support or naval support markers.

There's more in 6.7 about whether Naval or O/S markers are placed.

In essence: winner of marker directs where, flag owner of marker decides what, within 6.7 rules.

959 11/10/2023 3:16:00 AM Turn 9 United Kingdom Message Please see email I have sent about... email. UK won't debate that. Still sending file from myself to myself.
958 11/9/2023 6:59:00 AM Turn 9 United States Message Admiral Leahy moves USSR Directive Offensive marker from Center to US +3 due to special ability.

I believe this then allows US to send offensive or naval forces to wherever US wants it to go?
957 11/8/2023 5:27:00 PM Turn 9 Soviet Union Message USSR will debate the UK play with Nikolai Voznesensky. He's a 2 with a +1 for Nyet so the Pol-Mil 1/2 is returned to the centre of the table from the UK-3 space.

USSR then passes so it's round to the USA to advance an issue.
956 11/8/2023 12:11:00 PM Turn 9 United States Message Stalin, what do you want to do?
955 11/5/2023 7:58:00 PM Turn 9 United States Message NO debate

953 10/30/2023 10:01:00 AM Turn 9 Soviet Union Message No debate from USSR either so it's the UK to advance an issue.
952 10/29/2023 8:26:00 AM Turn 9 United Kingdom Message UK does not debate that.
951 10/25/2023 5:48:00 PM Turn 9 United States Message Harry Hopkins - moves Pol/Mil 2/2 back to USA 3 side
950 10/25/2023 1:41:00 PM Turn 9 United Kingdom Message No UK debate so USA to play
949 10/24/2023 4:23:00 PM Turn 9 United States Message NO Debate from ME -
948 10/24/2023 4:13:00 PM Turn 9 Soviet Union Message USSR plays Semyon Timoshenko, a 5, and advances the Pol-Mil 2/2 issue from the US-3 space to the USSR-2 space.

Any debate?
947 10/23/2023 4:35:00 PM Turn 9 United States Message All our floor and wall painting is done but now the move of all the stuff we took down and packed away needs to go back - some of the stuff is now "looking too old" to be put back - so what to do with this stuff - toss or 'keep for some other time'?...
946 10/23/2023 1:50:00 PM Turn 9 United Kingdom Message Getting there. Painted undercoat of damaged walls today. Will paint properly tomorrow and later in week move the shelves back in. Unpacking the games and reshelving etc. will be time consuming.
945 10/21/2023 5:52:00 PM Turn 9 United States Message Ah, the water issue(s) - My sister use to have major issues as their house was at the very bottom of a very steep hill. Pump did NOT always work - especially if the power went out. What a pain
944 10/21/2023 5:38:00 PM Turn 9 United Kingdom Message Have been dealing with the OTHER way water was getting in to the game cellar. Am just about ticking over.

Soviets to play a card?
943 10/18/2023 9:12:00 AM Turn 9 United States Message No debate - still trying to dig thru mail so if it is my turn let me know - if not then please continue.
942 10/16/2023 12:07:00 PM Turn 9 Soviet Union Message USSR does not debate the UK play.
941 10/16/2023 11:40:00 AM Turn 9 United Kingdom Message Stafford Cripps, 5, +1 for UK Production issue. Moves UK Production from middle to UK 6 box.
940 10/13/2023 4:29:00 PM Turn 9 Soviet Union Message USSR does not debate the USA play either. UK to advance an issue.
939 10/8/2023 10:54:00 AM Turn 9 United Kingdom Message UK will not debate US play.
938 10/3/2023 9:00:00 AM Turn 9 United States Message 2nd US card.

Stimson will take the 2/2 from Stalin's 3 and move
due to special ability to USA 3
937 10/2/2023 4:23:00 PM Turn 9 United Kingdom Message UK will not debate. USA to play a card on an issue.
936 10/2/2023 8:29:00 AM Turn 9 Soviet Union Message Sometimes it's an issue I want, so if I grab it with a debate then the next player has to use a card to take it and I can then debate that. It also means that they have to declare their interest and can't be portrayed as just stopping the other guy from getting an issue.
935 10/2/2023 8:11:00 AM Turn 9 United States Message NO DEBATE

As the Americans with no special ability I have only rarely seen occasion to debate when I have fair to good cards - but perhaps I'm playing this wrong
934 10/1/2023 3:19:00 PM Turn 9 Soviet Union Message Sorry again, I'm losing track of time at the moment - I think it's the change of seasons, it's definitely now autumn here in Wiltshire.

USSR plays Alexander Novikov, a 3, to move the Pol-Mil 1/3 issue from the middle of the table to the USSR-3 space. Round to you two for debate (or not).
933 10/1/2023 10:06:00 AM Turn 9 United Kingdom Message Soviets to play then.
932 9/28/2023 4:57:00 PM Turn 9 United States Message no debate
931 9/28/2023 4:04:00 PM Turn 9 Soviet Union Message USSR does not debate the UK play, does the USA debate it?
930 9/27/2023 6:32:00 AM Turn 9 United Kingdom Message Ernest Bevin, 5, moves Global Issue from middle to UK 5.

929 9/27/2023 6:28:00 AM Turn 9 United Kingdom Message UK is not going to debate and given Soviet statement is now up to play.

928 9/26/2023 8:15:00 AM Turn 9 Soviet Union Message Test message for Bob, as requested.
927 9/26/2023 8:04:00 AM Turn 9 United States Message possible problem with e-mail from ACTS.

Can one of you send a ACTS message to me?
926 9/25/2023 10:08:00 PM Turn 9 Soviet Union Message No debate from the USSR.

Message from United States:
Arnold - hang in there....
923 9/25/2023 7:17:00 PM Turn 9 United States Message Henry Arnold with special ability moves the A Bomb up
to USA 4.

Now I need to do a health roll
922 9/25/2023 6:35:00 PM Turn 9 Soviet Union Message USSR picks the Global issue and the UK Production issue. Round to the USA to start the discussions.

Sounds like an interesting but busy holiday, Bob. I'm still up for a game of Gangsters whenever you're ready.
921 9/23/2023 6:11:00 PM Turn 9 United Kingdom Message UK places Pol/Mil 1/2 and 1/3.
920 9/23/2023 6:03:00 PM Turn 9 United Kingdom Message Yes the military side of Europe is done, but the political aspects continue.
919 9/23/2023 8:34:00 AM Turn 9 Soviet Union Message We can still place CN and PA markers though, see penultimate sentence of 7.8
918 9/23/2023 8:33:00 AM Turn 9 United States Message HUM...well, I did forget this but let's keep what I did.

We went to Munich for 5 days, Salzburg for 4 days & Vienna for 5 days then had a 23 hour lay-over in Dublin.

Very fun, saw lots of stuff, and ate and drank lots of great food and beer.
917 9/23/2023 8:28:00 AM Turn 9 Soviet Union Message Whereabouts did you go?

As far as the game goes, remember that no Fronts may now advance in the European Theatre because Germany has surrendered, see 7.8.

916 9/23/2023 8:19:00 AM Turn 9 United States Message Whew, I am back.

That was very fun, very interesting but VERY Tiriing.

Trying to figure out electrical plugs, remembering which room # in each hotel is yours, how each tub or shower works, various WC costs and where they are when out an about, figuring out subways, trams, trains, when to tip and not to tip.....

Anyway, as for this game....

Let's try to see if we can move the Atom Bomb marker and then I'll add a production marker to see if we can break into Germany
915 9/19/2023 9:58:00 AM Turn 9 United Kingdom Message FotCoG is clever. It captures some of the gift-giving point scoring and can of course be viewed in the abstract. The first edition that I have doesn't feature the jewels that the online version has.

It is painfully binary as you choose between two options each go that might score something for you (and perhaps your opponent) while also giving them something they can score with in the future. There might be a 3rd option involving the dragon. BGG has a plain English summary for the first edition if the flowery language gets in the way of understanding. Getting too far ahead in the scoring can cost you later on. I'll send a link in an email when I next log in there.
914 9/18/2023 4:00:00 PM Turn 9 Soviet Union Message I could probably try Andean Abyss, I'll get the rules and have a read. I'd be interested to have a go at the Field of the Cloth of Gold, I've had a read of the rules so if you've got a spare slot send me an invite. I played a couple of games of Wilderness War back in 2002-2003 (twenty years ago!) and wouldn't mind playing again, though I'd have to read the rules again first.
913 9/18/2023 4:38:00 AM Turn 9 United Kingdom Message It's a good site. If you want to play Andean Abyss, Rob Winslow has expressed interest.

I played one Time of Crisis, but really don't have a good enough handle on the game yet.

Am currently playing:

Field of the Cloth of Gold. Could be a Yucata type game and I have played it a fair few times at the table.

Red Flag Over Paris. A three game mini-tournament with a friend.

Pax Pamir. Great game on the Great Game. More straightforward than Pax Porfiriana and with some different twists.

The blocky Hammer of the Scots etc. are not really my cup of tea, but have delved. Wilderness War and Shores of Tripoli work well (found the former a bit too bitty/atomised, but it chugs along fine alongside other games). Have tried Nevsky but am a bit lost still.
912 9/14/2023 4:12:00 PM Turn 9 Soviet Union Message I've just joined Rally The Troops and I'm in a game of Time of Crisis - so far it's a fun game, might be worth thinking of adding it to the list of games to try (it's a four player game).
911 9/14/2023 5:40:00 AM Turn 9 United Kingdom Message And we wait for Bob's return for that.
910 9/9/2023 3:22:00 PM Turn 9 Soviet Union Message USSR picks the Pol-Mil 2/2 and places it on the USSR-3 space.

Now it's the USA to pick two agenda items for the middle of the table.
909 9/5/2023 4:39:00 AM Turn 9 United Kingdom Message Reveal Mountbatten. Soviets win phase 5-2-2 so they now place an issue on their 5 - 2 = 3 space.
908 9/3/2023 2:06:00 PM Turn 9 Soviet Union Message Apologies for the delay. I'm not moving house yet, but I *am* trying to prepare - I have forty years of accumulated things to sort through and dispose of, including two filing cabinets full of paper. Nearly all of the paper is unwanted, but a small amount will be important and is neatly mixed in with the rest - as my father's dementia started to bite things got moved around in a way that made sense to hime at the time. Most of the unwanted paper needs to be properly destroyed so I have to figure out how best to do that.

The task has been overwhelming, but I have now decided my best move is to put a chunk of stuff in temporary storage - most of the things I brought back from my house in Cheltenham are still boxed up so will be easy to move - to give me space to sort the rest of the house out.

For bonus fun, I'm planning to move to Scotland which probably means selling this house and renting somewhere before I buy the next house because of the different legal system there and the approach they take to house purchases. I keep having to remind myself that this wouldn't be fun if it was easy...

Anyway, on with the game. USSR has reshuffled its deck and plays Kliment Voroshilov, a 5, as the Agenda pick.

Over to you two to reveal cards and decide who wins the Agenda.
907 9/2/2023 6:53:00 AM Turn 9 United States Message Nick had sent me a mailing saying he was moving (or starting to move) to Scotland and was going to be delayed.
906 9/2/2023 2:34:00 AM Turn 9 United Kingdom Message Where are we? Bob is in Germany or thereabouts (despite us failing to get there before Nick in the game) and the next play is a face up Soviet agenda card?

Am a bit out of the loop and am travelling all today and overnight.
905 8/29/2023 3:42:00 AM Turn 9 United Kingdom Message Some of the chits have not been put out.

US 5

UK 2

Sov 1

The log on the spreadsheet is correct.
904 8/28/2023 6:33:00 AM Turn 9 United States Message Did I miss something?

We are on Conference 9 but board shows:

Conference winner chit:
US 2
Brit 2
USSR 1

Did we tie on 3 of them?
903 8/28/2023 6:28:00 AM Turn 9 United States Message >Good to see another possibility of an imbroglio.

902 8/27/2023 6:15:00 PM Turn 9 United Kingdom Edit Conference / Events United Kingdom: from A Moscow, Global Issue placed to B Yalta. Churchill debates not advances.
Soviet Union: from Northern Flank +production to USSR directed offensive on table.
United States: from Roosevelt no advance issue, Bulge to Roosevelt no advance issue, debate OK.
901 8/27/2023 6:14:00 PM Turn 9 United Kingdom Message Imbroglio fever abates.

Message from United Kingdom:
Government in Exile leadership imbroglio. Good to see another possibility of an imbroglio.

Id this is a 1-3 there are that many Pol-Mil removal rolls.
899 8/27/2023 6:03:00 PM Turn 9 United Kingdom Message Yalta - Argonaut - B drawn.

Marginalised Churchill cannot advance an issue. Can debate.

Japan war pressure: USSR directed offensive on table.

Roosevelt poor health. No advancing issue, can debate.

Luzon defence - place Japanese reserve.

898 8/27/2023 5:58:00 PM Turn 8 United Kingdom End Turn
897 8/27/2023 5:55:00 PM Turn 8 United Kingdom Message Yes they are in the calculations, though Malaya is UK CA. That is not helping the UK score as it is a colony. If the space was empty UK would have 2 more VP (see wording of VP criteria B and F).
896 8/24/2023 8:44:00 AM Turn 8 United States Message >Tidied up file sent. Please all check before I move on.

Malaya and Dutch Indies for US?
Netherlands for Brits?
895 8/24/2023 7:53:00 AM Turn 8 United Kingdom Edit Provisional VPs United Kingdom: from 39 to 39
Soviet Union: from 37 to 45
United States: from 38 to 38
894 8/24/2023 7:53:00 AM Turn 8 United Kingdom Message >Looking at the VP Tally you sent, did you miss the 8VP I should get for having a Front in Berlin?

That should be in line G.
893 8/24/2023 7:46:00 AM Turn 8 United Kingdom Message Tidied up file sent. Please all check before I move on.
892 8/24/2023 7:32:00 AM Turn 8 Soviet Union Message Looking at the VP Tally you sent, did you miss the 8VP I should get for having a Front in Berlin?
891 8/24/2023 7:29:00 AM Turn 8 United Kingdom Message You lose the CNs in Austria, Hungary and Greece Bob. It makes no difference to the provisional score though as you have Pol Alignments in those three so get credit for those.
890 8/24/2023 7:26:00 AM Turn 8 United Kingdom Message Good point. I didn't do those (lost the plot recently with other distractions). It will affect you.
889 8/23/2023 7:15:00 AM Turn 8 United States Message do not some of the colony / spy markers come off in the East due to Soviet army advances?

Same in China/Burma and Western front?

I don't remember any of them coming off?
888 8/23/2023 4:40:00 AM Turn 8 United Kingdom Message If the game ended now, the Soviets would win under the Global Hegemon adjustments (4.43). But it is tight.

If Japan surrenders in Conference 9 or 10 we are probably looking at the leading player winning under 4.41 as a big 20+ VP lead (4.42 is unlikely).

I'm looking at the pdf of the revised rules and all this is in blue.
887 8/23/2023 4:34:00 AM Turn 8 United Kingdom Edit Provisional VPs United Kingdom: from 41 to 39
Soviet Union: from 26 to 37
United States: from 33 to 38
886 8/23/2023 4:33:00 AM Turn 8 United Kingdom Message Of note. US improves on PA markers. Soviets win conference and take Berlin, with Western Allies not getting there too. Colonies filling up. Still no Trinity. All very close surprisingly.
885 8/23/2023 4:17:00 AM Turn 8 United Kingdom Message Fails. Game continues with only Japan left.

Checking VP standings.

Message from United Kingdom:
S W Pacific attempting to advance into Vogelkop / New Guinea.

Base 2 only. So a roll of 1 or 2 needed to advance.
883 8/23/2023 4:14:00 AM Turn 8 United Kingdom Message Moving on to the Pacific.

Soviets can't advance in Far East as going in to Manchuria requires the relevant issue to be in the middle of the table.

Their strength is 2 - 4 = -2 anyway. But next time Stalin can redeploy.

CBI needs 3 Naval to try for Hong Kong and there are only 2 so no roll there.

No roll on Central Pacific as base 2 - 2 for a reserve gives us a 0 and we can't roll equal to or under that.

S W Pacific though will get a roll.

882 8/23/2023 4:08:00 AM Turn 8 United Kingdom Message This gets the Soviets into Germany and Germany Surrenders. Soviets get 2 technology markers.

This is one of the three Emperor surrenders conditions.
