1149 7/13/2024 3:43:00 AM Turn 10 United Kingdom Message Am happy to play Time of Crisis on RTT. I have made a breakthrough from poor to mediocre I think. Also willing to try Friedrich.
1148 7/12/2024 7:22:00 AM Turn 10 United States Message Great Nick, thanks for the update.
I really feel I just 'fell" into the win....

As for me next week I'm off to the WBC for 10 days of GAMING FUN... then getting ready for Cataract surgery in August followed by a trip to Upstate New York in September then... Helping my parents sell their house in Florida so I'll only be playing ladder games of VITP, WAS, BKN and a few more on and off probably until the end of the year.

Good luck to both of you and drop each other a line now and then.

1147 7/12/2024 7:14:00 AM Turn 10 Soviet Union Message Well played Bob!

Thanks for the game guys, and sorry I've been distracted the last few months but the move to Scotland has taken up pretty much all my time and attention. And I would have replied to this sooner but I was up in Scotland taking over a flat and followed that by catching covid - I'm just about over it now but I haven't felt this ill in something like twenty years.

I decided during conference 8 that I wasn't going to attack Japan, but unfortunately I couldn't win the Pol-Mil issues I needed so my grand plan rather fell apart. In hindsight I should have spent effort there earlier rather than concentrating so much on getting to Berlin.

I expect to be busy with housing and relocation matters for pretty much the rest of this year, which means ACTS/Vassal games aren't going to be practical. I will be available on Rally The Troops and Yucata, though, and can usually manage at least two moves per day so feel free to send invites. I'm enjoying Time of Crisis and finding creative new ways to sabotage my own position. I'm also playing Friedrich there, but don't feel I have a proper handle on it yet.
1146 7/2/2024 8:37:00 PM Turn 10 United States Message Thanks Paul for doing the yeoman's work on the scoring.

Perhaps we can give this one a rest for now.

But also I'm willing to PU again some other time.
1145 7/2/2024 8:36:00 PM Turn 10 United States Message WOW, that was ONE CLOSE GAME - didn't seem that way
half way thru this one...
1144 7/2/2024 6:04:00 PM Turn 10 United Kingdom Message The reason Japan does not surrender due to Trinity is that 7.82c has not happened (Soviets not in Manchuria).
1143 7/2/2024 5:52:00 PM Turn 10 United Kingdom Message Subject to checking, Bob wins by 1VP.

I think the Global Hegemon adjustments reflect the situation of Japan not yet surrendering and a blunting of being first, some blunting of 2nd and a balance of power boost to third as the VPs initially stood. From the commentary:

If the players have failed to cause unconditional surrender, the Axis powers still surrender, but now the post war world is more chaotic where the player in first wins if they have a greater than 10 VP advantage else another power gains unforeseen leverage in the alternate history Cold War that develops.
1142 7/2/2024 5:49:00 PM Turn 10 United Kingdom Edit Provisional VPs United Kingdom: from 44 to 49
Soviet Union: from 47 to 44
United States: from 55 to 50
1141 7/2/2024 5:47:00 PM Turn 10 United Kingdom Message From rules pdf:

4.43 Global Hegemon, Axis Conditional Surrender:

If one or both Axis powers have not surrendered, then the player with the most points subtracts 5 points, the player with the second most subtracts 3 points, and the player with the fewest points adds 5 points to their respective totals.

...

After these adjustments, the player with the most VPs wins. If
the adjusted scores result in a tie for most points, then the final tiebreaker rules (4.44) are used to determine the winner.
1140 7/2/2024 5:44:00 PM Turn 10 United Kingdom Edit Provisional VPs United Kingdom: from 43 to 44
Soviet Union: from 47 to 47
United States: from 44 to 55
1139 7/2/2024 5:30:00 PM Turn 10 United Kingdom Message Before totting up, there is a map error. Step 1125 when US PA placed in Czechoslovakia it should be removed alongside the UK already there as different countries cannot have coexisting PAs and 'placement' acts as an opponent removal.

1138 7/2/2024 2:24:00 PM Turn 10 United Kingdom Message UK missed 5 VP there. Will do the final bits later.

Message from United Kingdom:
Moving on to Japanese Reserves. Looking at the priority box on the map.

1. Skipped.

2. 2 armies to Manchuria (leaves 2 and fleet).

3. CBI and Central Pacific both have B29 indicators so they get the other 2 armies.

4. On a roll of 1-2 Japanese Navy goes to Central |Pacific.

1130 6/24/2024 12:12:00 PM Turn 10 United Kingdom Message Glad things are moving along on the house front. I never want to buy a house again, given past experiences, but might need to the once more.

I think this game is down to rolling out the remaining stages and checking. I'll do the Japanese reserves the next time I log on.

RTT: TOC I have and understand. Not to the extent of stellar play. Friedrich I have played once FTF on Declan's copy. Happy to explore it further.

Pax Pamir is also a multi-player there. I'm fairly good at it and have played at a convention as well as online. Well, good until my current game where I am flailing.

There's also Andean Abyss. See my comment son TOC but with chrome buttons.

RTT (or Yucata which I am having a temporary break from) is such an easier platform to VASSAL/ACTS. You log in and play. No files. I have enjoyed VASSAL (or Cyberboard) and ACTS over the years but can see myself dropping down to just one or two games max.
1129 6/23/2024 3:40:00 PM Turn 10 Soviet Union Message I've placed my PA in Rumania and I've also replaced the OS markers with CN ones.
1128 6/21/2024 7:14:00 PM Turn 10 Soviet Union Message Sorry for the delay. Life has got really busy recently, I've been up to Scotland three times in the last two months and have now found somewhere to rent while I get this house cleared and sold. The advice from all the estate agents I spoke to in Scotland was that until I sell my house in England it is most unlikely that a Scottish seller would accept an offer from me. So I have to rent somewhere and they all described the rental market as buoyant so I count myself lucky to have only spent a month finding a flat to rent.

I should be able to make my play on Saturday, but for at least the next three or four months I'm not realistically going to be able to play anything on ACTS+Vassal because I have a truly stupendous amount to do here, I'll be dividing my time between Wiltshire and Scotland, and much of the time I won't have access to a suitable machine. I will be able to play on Yucata and RallyTheTroops though, any interest in a game of Friedrich or Time of Crisis?
1127 6/21/2024 11:19:00 AM Turn 10 United Kingdom Message Nick to play when you can. Hope all is going well.
1126 6/16/2024 10:39:00 AM Turn 10 United Kingdom Message UK PA in France.

Soviets now need to place 1PA and change the OS markers for CNs.
1125 6/13/2024 7:02:00 AM Turn 10 United States Message > they must go where you already have CNs.

Okay Poland and Czech-land
1124 6/12/2024 5:11:00 PM Turn 10 United Kingdom Message OK but first you need to roll back to replace the PA markers Bob as per 7.3 first line they must go where you already have CNs.

I think the file you need to run and move on from is your C10-US up to spies one.
1123 6/11/2024 7:30:00 PM Turn 10 United States Message Okay British go first
1122 6/11/2024 5:51:00 PM Turn 10 United Kingdom Message I think it is too marginal really.
1121 6/6/2024 7:07:00 AM Turn 10 United States Message Do I hear any bids promises to me for picking YOU to go last?
1120 6/6/2024 3:50:00 AM Turn 10 United Kingdom Message Yes. We have 1 marker each so per 3.32 US breaks the tie and decides which one goes next.
1119 6/2/2024 5:22:00 PM Turn 10 United States Message so, one of you two guys is next I believe
1118 5/27/2024 1:57:00 PM Turn 10 United States Message Paul hope this map gets to you.
1117 5/27/2024 1:56:00 PM Turn 10 United States Message one marker in France
one marker in Siam to knock out the British guy
1116 5/27/2024 11:09:00 AM Turn 10 United Kingdom Message Bob you now go with placing 2 Political Alignment markers (see post 1111 - your winning the 2/2 gives you the most as Soviets and UK each have 1 each). Player with most goes first.

That's assuming the last file was "C10-US up to spies".
1115 5/7/2024 6:23:00 AM Turn 10 United States Message With my 3 Spy units.

1 to replace back in Cambodia/Laos
1 to to place/remove British in Finland
1 to to place in Finland
1114 5/7/2024 5:58:00 AM Turn 10 United Kingdom Message I can't place Soviet pieces. Locked, so putting 2 OS in Baltics as a memory jogger and 1 in Romania.

UK places 1 Cambodia/Laos (USA has one there so this clears the space.

Then 2 in France.
1113 5/7/2024 5:50:00 AM Turn 10 United Kingdom Message OK the UK is about to place 3 Clandestine Networks.

I'm building on the sav file 'C10-US up to Global issue'.

Will incorporate the Soviet one first.
1112 5/1/2024 1:58:00 PM Turn 10 United States Message Brits next so I can go last
1111 5/1/2024 12:16:00 PM Turn 10 Soviet Union Message I believe the cn count is 4 for the USSR and 3 each for the UK and USA (I won the Pol-Mil 1/3, Paul the 1/2 and Bob the 2/2, plus we each have our inherent 1). That means I place first and then the USA decides who places second (see 7.1 second paragraph).

I will place 3 in Baltic States (1 to remove the US one, then two to place USSR markers) and 1 in Rumania. Now it's Bob to decide who places next.

I'm away at the moment and have no access to Vassal so could whoever's next update the map with my placements as well please.
1110 5/1/2024 7:45:00 AM Turn 10 United States Message Okay all done up till MIL/POL starting off with Churchill I believe

1109 5/1/2024 7:42:00 AM Turn 10 United States Message BBBBOOOOOOMMM

Message from United States:
so I won it giving me +2
Okay I'll place one leadership marker in SW PAC and other in Central PAC

Now for the A-BOMB roll

On a result of 4-6 advance the US A-Bomb marker one
space toward the Trinity space.
1107 5/1/2024 7:03:00 AM Turn 10 United Kingdom Message I interpret Theatre Leadership to mean 1 marker for having it +2 if you just won it as an issue.

Europe is out of the running and is not considered.
1106 4/28/2024 9:18:00 AM Turn 10 United States Message We are UP to Leadership I believe but a few questions....

Production DONE

Direct Offensive NA

POL/MIL Assigned and placed during War Segment

Leadership I get 2 for winning current issue
(Do I get 2 for Europe also?)
(And 2 for (possibly winning both)

A-Bomb now need to roll for last time

Global Issue USSR placement (already indicated where entry #1105)

War Segment now we place MIL/POL each of us has on marker tagged for play

Axis front placement

Allies fight on each front vs Axis placements

1105 4/27/2024 1:36:00 PM Turn 10 Soviet Union Message Sorry, I've been very tied up with trying to organise somewhere to live as part of my plan to move to Scotland. It's taken up most of my time and attention for the last couple of weeks and I'm going up to Edinburgh again tomorrow as part of this. It seems unlikely that I'll have much time for ACTS/Vassal games after this one for at least the next three months, although I will be able to play on Yucata and Rally The Troops most of that time.

I've brought myself back up to speed on this game, and realised that unfortunately I had forgotten we still had things to do before the CNs. Specifically, Bob has offensive support/naval markers to place for being in command of the Pacific Theatre and also for winning the Pacific Leadership issue. Then there's the A-Bomb roll and also the Global Issue to deal with. I won the Global Issue and will move the marker on the track between US+USSR to the Communist Cadres space - unfortunately I can't see the marker (I guess it got attached to a card at some point, I think we did that in a previous game), but I don't think that's really a problem given that this is the last turn so we should be able to remember it.

That means it is now Bob to place his three offensive/naval support markers for the Pacific Leadership (one for being in command plus two for winning the issue) and resolve the A-Bomb roll. (Not forgetting that the three OS markers currently in Iwo Jima need to be moved to Manchuria).

I'll be away now until Thursday night and won't have access to Vassal, but I'll make a note of my intended placements of CN and PA markers and send ACTS messages so whoever is playing after me can update them on the map for me.
1104 4/27/2024 7:22:00 AM Turn 10 United States Message NOPE we are now waiting for Nick to do CN allocations
1103 4/27/2024 2:22:00 AM Turn 10 United Kingdom Message Help. Are you waiting for me to do something? I confess to not really knowing where we are from about post 1092.
1102 4/20/2024 10:25:00 AM Turn 10 United States Message Okay, I'm not sure I need to revise what I put down
as it was not really any effect on me -
so go ahead and do your next part of Spy move.
1101 4/20/2024 9:59:00 AM Turn 10 Soviet Union Message Sorry for the delay, I've been visiting my cousin in Edinburgh again and looking at what I need to do to make a move up to Scotland. (Mostly I need to get myself organised and get this place tidied up and ready for sale, but I'm also going to have to rent somewhere in Scotland as otherwise it's going to be difficult to buy anywhere there).

I *think* that where we are is I'm waiting for you to revise your production allocation after I changed mine - my allocation is now one to activate the Pol-Mil issue that I won, one for naval support in CBI (makes no difference and not worth changing) and then three that were offensive support in the Central Pacific are reassigned to Manchuria. I haven't sent a map update, please could you do that as part of your reallocation.

I *think* that after that it's me to allocate CNs as I have 4 (3 from the 3/1 Pol-Mil plus my inherent 1) and you two have three each.
1100 4/14/2024 1:46:00 PM Turn 10 United States Message Okay, who is waiting for whom?

Nick, did you want to pick a game on Yucata or are you taking a break too?
1099 4/7/2024 10:26:00 AM Turn 10 United States Message Just did it again - Nick can you 'copy' Paul on this in case we are back to missing my e-mail?
1098 4/7/2024 10:25:00 AM Turn 10 United States Message I thought so
1097 4/7/2024 10:19:00 AM Turn 10 United Kingdom Message I think that looks doable for Stalin. Think of it as troop build ups?

Bob did you send a file out?
1096 4/2/2024 3:09:00 PM Turn 10 United States Message Okay with me
1095 4/2/2024 1:38:00 PM Turn 10 Soviet Union Message The reason I asked about placing OS in Manchuria even without the declaration of war is that I couldn't find anything in the rules that said it wasn't allowed - it's explicit that the front cannot advance, but there's no mention of OS placement. By contrast the post-surrender rules explicitly say that offensive and naval support can no longer be placed in that theatre, see the first sentence of 7.8

This a Mark Herman game and something I've been told about his rules is "don't read what isn't there". I've had a read through the BGG forums and found https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1590886/placing-useless-offensive-support which I think says that I *can* place my support markers in Manchuria - see the reply from Sean McCormick and note that later in the thread Mark Herman also replies and neither contradicts Sean nor says that this is illegal play.

Since Paul hasn't played yet, could I please change my allocation as I originally said I would have placed it in Manchuria if it were a legal play.
1094 3/30/2024 6:59:00 PM Turn 10 United States Message Stalin thanks for the help at Iwo Jima

1 for Atomic Bomb
1 for Spy counter
to avoid possible 5 VP for my allies I'll place the 3 offensive support markers in New Guinea to prevent a Halsey / Macarthur fight...
1093 3/30/2024 4:46:00 PM Turn 10 United States Message YES, you can NOT place / advance into Manchuria without this event being in the center - Like the Strategic Material event .....

The Second Front and the USSR Declares
War on Japan issues are conditional
issues. They are required to allow
D-Day (i.e., to allow the Western Theater
Front to attempt to advance into Normandy and beyond) and to
allow the Far Eastern Front to advance into Manchuria and beyond,
respectively. They are successful if they end the conference
in the center of the table. Otherwise they do not take effect,
though they do count as a won issue for whoever has the issue
on their track or chair.
1092 3/30/2024 4:28:00 PM Turn 10 Soviet Union Message USSR has five production, allocated as follows:
1 to activate the Pol-Mil 1/3
1 to place a Naval marker in the CBI
3 offensive support in Iwo Jima

(I'm assuming that I'm not permitted to put offensive support in Manchuria as the USSR Declares War on Japan issue wasn't on the conference agenda - what do you think? If it is permitted then I'll put the three OS in Manchuria instead of Iwo Jima)
1091 3/24/2024 3:36:00 AM Turn 10 United Kingdom Message UK allocates first as clockwise around from conference winner.

UK allocates 1 to the 1/2 Pol-Mil

Then 1 Naval to CBI in case Japanese Navy sorties there and 2 Offensive support to CBI (Formosa).

Soviets allocate next.

When it comes to USA they have the 5 and then (assuming not ceding Pacific Leadership to UK) another 3.

1090 3/24/2024 3:28:00 AM Turn 10 United Kingdom Message Correction Soviets +1 more for Arctic Production (the Murmansk Convoy is an extra on top of that).
1089 3/24/2024 3:23:00 AM Turn 10 United Kingdom Message Production.

USA base 6 -1 Morganthau Plan = 5

UK base 4

Soviet base 3 +1 Murmansk Convoy = 4

USA will get more after this round for Theatre Leadership and for winning that issue.
1088 3/24/2024 3:17:00 AM Turn 10 United Kingdom Message Yes USA wins conference 3-2-1.

Directed Offensives: none

No Conditional Issue
1087 3/23/2024 4:45:00 PM Turn 10 Soviet Union Message USSR discards Pavel Zhigarev to play Stalin and move the Global Issue from the UK-4 space to the USSR-3 space.

That's the end of the conference and it looks like the USA wins the conference with three issues to the USSR's two and the UK's one.
1086 3/21/2024 3:29:00 AM Turn 10 United Kingdom Message Play Attlee [5 as Churchill now inactive] from USA 1 to UK 4 slot.
1085 3/20/2024 6:11:00 AM Turn 10 United States Message I did not see any restrictions either but also had not seen it done so just wanted to check
1084 3/19/2024 11:29:00 PM Turn 10 Soviet Union Message I don't see any restrictions on using Truman to advance an issue, so you do get the five space move, putting the Pol-Mil 2/2 on the US-4 space.

Your play can only be debated by another leader (see 5.24, third paragraph, second sentence). Churchill has already been used in this conference and Stalin declines to get involved so it's now round to the UK to advance an issue.
1083 3/19/2024 3:45:00 PM Turn 10 United States Message I've done this in while if ever.

If I play James Byrnes I get 4 movement.
If I play him and active Franklin/Truman (it does not matter if he dies) I get 5 steps (I think)

But not sure.

So for the moment I'll pretend I can use President and move the 2/2 spy marker from USSR 1 to USA 4 (or US 3 if can not use Leader.
1082 3/19/2024 11:34:00 AM Turn 10 United Kingdom Message No debate either so USA goes next.

Am away from home from this evening for just over a week. It might speed up my play as I won't have home distractions.
1081 3/17/2024 8:13:00 PM Turn 10 United States Message no debate
1080 3/17/2024 5:30:00 PM Turn 10 Soviet Union Message Stalin prods Lavrenty Beria into action to advance the Pol-Mil 2/2 issue, he's a 3 so it moves from the UK-2 space to the USSR-1 space.

Any debate?
1079 3/17/2024 7:53:00 AM Turn 10 United States Message But Winston I thought we were buds....

John Anderson is a 4 and shifts it from USA 2 to UK 2.

Then pass, but there is an Anderson roll.
1076 3/16/2024 6:33:00 PM Turn 10 United States Message I'll Play Leo Crowley for 2 moving the 1/2 spy counter from 0 to US 2
1075 3/16/2024 6:23:00 PM Turn 10 United Kingdom Message No debate so USA take their next turn?
1074 3/16/2024 8:23:00 AM Turn 10 United States Message NONE for me
But pass the bottle...
1073 3/15/2024 7:34:00 PM Turn 10 Soviet Union Message He clearly needs to lay off the vodka...the Pol-Mil 2/2 moves from the UK-3 space to the UK-2 space.

Any debate?

Message from Soviet Union:
USSR will use Georgi Zhukov to advance the Pol-Mil 2/2, this die roll determines his strength.

1070 3/10/2024 12:56:00 PM Turn 10 United Kingdom Message Yes because I debated and passed.

Message from United Kingdom:
2-4 heart attack. Not that it matters as there is no C11.
1067 3/6/2024 11:12:00 AM Turn 10 United Kingdom Message Discard Dudley Pound and use Churchill's 7 to move the 2/2 from USA 4 to UK 3.
1066 3/6/2024 11:11:00 AM Turn 10 United Kingdom Message UK will debate then pass.

Debate so Churchill can be used as he cannot advance an issue.
1065 3/2/2024 10:13:00 AM Turn 10 Soviet Union Message USSR does not debate the USA play.
1064 3/2/2024 8:13:00 AM Turn 10 United States Message Frank Knox for me - move the 2/2 spy marker from British 1 to US 4
1063 3/2/2024 4:17:00 AM Turn 10 United Kingdom Message USA to play then. The Nyet is a strong option as it gives a regular extra shift, so long as you respond to what others are doing.
1062 3/1/2024 7:13:00 PM Turn 10 Soviet Union Message I needed a card strong enough to get the Pol-Mil off the UK track.

My play was a debate of the UK play, so it's now you to advance an issue (you can't debate a debate play).
1061 3/1/2024 7:08:00 PM Turn 10 United States Message I'm surprised you did not take advantage of the special feature of your card with a US production?

NO DEBATE for me
1060 3/1/2024 6:32:00 PM Turn 10 Soviet Union Message USSR will debate the UK play with Anastas Mikoyan. He's a 3 with a +1 for Nyet so the Pol-Mil 1/3 moves from the UK-3 space to the USSR-1 space.
