Yes. You place the DO marker in a Front's entry space. If that's a land space then I have to use my points to place two offensive support markers in that space. If it's an amphibious space then I have to use my points to place naval support in the theatre box until there are three naval support there and then place offensive support in the Front's entry space. In either case those must be the first points I spend. I'm away from the map at the moment, but I think that your theatre boxes both have at least three naval markers so I'd be placing offensive support markers. I'll be making my decision about debating your play later today once I can see the board and my cards. |

Bob, what the Directed Offensive marker allows if you win it: 4.23.1 Directed Offensive Placement. Each player who won a Directed Offensive (6.7) issue now must place that issue on any Front entry space on the map, regardless of who controls that Front. [Not Arctic and I believe we are now restricted to Pacific.] A DO requires TWO production makers to be allocated to that Front. 6.4 1. 6.7 includes: Each Directed Offensive issue requires the flag owner [So USSR here] to allocate production markers to place two offensive support or naval support markers. There's more in 6.7 about whether Naval or O/S markers are placed. In essence: winner of marker directs where, flag owner of marker decides what, within 6.7 rules. |

FotCoG is clever. It captures some of the gift-giving point scoring and can of course be viewed in the abstract. The first edition that I have doesn't feature the jewels that the online version has. It is painfully binary as you choose between two options each go that might score something for you (and perhaps your opponent) while also giving them something they can score with in the future. There might be a 3rd option involving the dragon. BGG has a plain English summary for the first edition if the flowery language gets in the way of understanding. Getting too far ahead in the scoring can cost you later on. I'll send a link in an email when I next log in there. |

I could probably try Andean Abyss, I'll get the rules and have a read. I'd be interested to have a go at the Field of the Cloth of Gold, I've had a read of the rules so if you've got a spare slot send me an invite. I played a couple of games of Wilderness War back in 2002-2003 (twenty years ago!) and wouldn't mind playing again, though I'd have to read the rules again first. |

It's a good site. If you want to play Andean Abyss, Rob Winslow has expressed interest. I played one Time of Crisis, but really don't have a good enough handle on the game yet. Am currently playing: Field of the Cloth of Gold. Could be a Yucata type game and I have played it a fair few times at the table. Red Flag Over Paris. A three game mini-tournament with a friend. Pax Pamir. Great game on the Great Game. More straightforward than Pax Porfiriana and with some different twists. The blocky Hammer of the Scots etc. are not really my cup of tea, but have delved. Wilderness War and Shores of Tripoli work well (found the former a bit too bitty/atomised, but it chugs along fine alongside other games). Have tried Nevsky but am a bit lost still. |

Apologies for the delay. I'm not moving house yet, but I *am* trying to prepare - I have forty years of accumulated things to sort through and dispose of, including two filing cabinets full of paper. Nearly all of the paper is unwanted, but a small amount will be important and is neatly mixed in with the rest - as my father's dementia started to bite things got moved around in a way that made sense to hime at the time. Most of the unwanted paper needs to be properly destroyed so I have to figure out how best to do that. The task has been overwhelming, but I have now decided my best move is to put a chunk of stuff in temporary storage - most of the things I brought back from my house in Cheltenham are still boxed up so will be easy to move - to give me space to sort the rest of the house out. For bonus fun, I'm planning to move to Scotland which probably means selling this house and renting somewhere before I buy the next house because of the different legal system there and the approach they take to house purchases. I keep having to remind myself that this wouldn't be fun if it was easy... Anyway, on with the game. USSR has reshuffled its deck and plays Kliment Voroshilov, a 5, as the Agenda pick. Over to you two to reveal cards and decide who wins the Agenda. |

Moving on to the Pacific. Soviets can't advance in Far East as going in to Manchuria requires the relevant issue to be in the middle of the table. Their strength is 2 - 4 = -2 anyway. But next time Stalin can redeploy. CBI needs 3 Naval to try for Hong Kong and there are only 2 so no roll there. No roll on Central Pacific as base 2 - 2 for a reserve gives us a 0 and we can't roll equal to or under that. S W Pacific though will get a roll. |
