195 2/15/2022 1:34:00 PM Turn 2 Soviet Union Message SO that makes him an 8(!) and the UK Production issue moves from the UK-2 space to the USSR-6 space.

Now it's the USA to advance an issue.

Message from Soviet Union:
USSR will debate then UK play using Georgi Zhukov. His strength is determined by this die roll, then gets +1 for Nyet and +1 for it being a Production issue.
193 2/15/2022 3:12:00 AM Turn 2 United Kingdom Message As Bob has signalled no debate, Soviets to debate UK or play their card.
192 2/13/2022 7:11:00 AM Turn 2 United States Message US will remain quite while British take back their marker.
No Debate
191 2/13/2022 2:27:00 AM Turn 2 United Kingdom Message 4th UK card.

Stafford Cripps, a 5, +1 for issue moved being UK production, moves it from Sov 4 to UK 2.
190 2/12/2022 6:54:00 PM Turn 2 Soviet Union Message No debate from the USSR either. You should probably try and get him to cut down on the booze and cigars.
189 2/10/2022 4:36:00 PM Turn 2 United Kingdom Message No debate from UK. Really missing Churchill this conference.
188 2/8/2022 6:00:00 PM Turn 2 United States Message Chief of Staff Leahy will advance the Production marker up to US 3 due to special ability
187 2/8/2022 5:55:00 PM Turn 2 Soviet Union Message Comrade Stalin disapproves and has instructed Comrade Vosnesensky to say nyet. He's a 2 with a +1 for nyet so the Global issue ends up on the USSR-1 space.

The USSR will then pass so it's the USA to advance an issue.
186 2/8/2022 5:06:00 AM Turn 2 United States Message no debate
185 2/8/2022 3:00:00 AM Turn 2 United Kingdom Message Use Lyttleton value 4 to move Global Issue from Soviet 2 to UK 2.
184 2/6/2022 9:31:00 PM Turn 2 Soviet Union Message No debate from the USSR, UK to advance an issue.
183 2/6/2022 12:34:00 PM Turn 2 United Kingdom Message Churchill not happy from afar, but will not debate. Will Soviets?

178 2/2/2022 10:23:00 PM Turn 2 United States Message Ah and AHA...

okay, contiue
177 2/2/2022 6:09:00 PM Turn 2 Soviet Union Message Ah, yes, I meant it's the UK to advance an issue.

Stalin shouldn't have been marked as Inactive (although he is now) - if you look at the conference card you'll see that he stayed in Moscow this time and is not allowed to advance an issue, but is still allowed to debate. His strength is 7, so the issue he debates moves 7 spaces from where it was advanced to (see 5.24)
176 2/2/2022 3:09:00 PM Turn 2 United States Message A few things - and I ask forgivness as I am not
near my board.

First I thought Stalin was out of this conference so not sure if you can still use him.

Also a switch of 7 (or 8) steps seems awful large
I though the marker just went back to the starting point.

Finally since I just did a move not sure how/why I would 'go again'....???

Or perhaps I'm just clueless here. - very possible...

Message from Soviet Union:
Stalin's paranoia dice. A total of 2-4 means he's paranoid for the rest of the conference.
174 2/2/2022 1:21:00 PM Turn 2 Soviet Union Message USSR discards Kirill Meretskov to use Stalin to debate the US play, the A-Bomb issue moves from the US-4 space to the USSR-3 space.

Now it's the USA to advance an issue.
173 2/2/2022 5:53:00 AM Turn 2 United Kingdom Message No debate from UK of USA play
172 2/1/2022 9:04:00 PM Turn 2 United States Message What, me worry about a heart attack...NA.

I now need to roll for health - death on a roll of 1
170 2/1/2022 4:51:00 PM Turn 2 Soviet Union Message I'll debate the UK play with Anastas Mikoyan, a 3 with a +1 for Nyet! so the Global issue moves from the UK-2 space to the USSR-2 space.

USSR then passes so it's the USA to advance an issue.
169 2/1/2022 5:21:00 AM Turn 2 United States Message No debate
168 2/1/2022 3:57:00 AM Turn 2 United Kingdom Message Cunningham shifts Global Issue from middle to UK 2.
167 1/31/2022 4:20:00 PM Turn 2 Soviet Union Message No debate from the USSR either, so it's the UK to advance an issue.
166 1/28/2022 12:11:00 PM Turn 2 United Kingdom Message Ouch. British will not debate.
165 1/27/2022 5:40:00 AM Turn 2 United States Message Play Simspon card and POL/MIL so
he's worth 6 instead of 5
164 1/27/2022 1:53:00 AM Turn 2 United Kingdom Message Ditto. USA to play a card.
163 1/25/2022 10:09:00 PM Turn 2 United States Message No debate for me
162 1/25/2022 5:51:00 PM Turn 2 Soviet Union Message I'll play Andrei Zhdanov, a 2 with a +2 for Production issues, and move the UK production issue from the centre of the table to the USSR-4 space.

Round to you two for possible debate then the USA turn.
161 1/25/2022 1:51:00 PM Turn 2 United Kingdom Message I won the Agenda segment so Soviets play the first card.
160 1/23/2022 6:47:00 AM Turn 2 United States Message Okay who's up first?
159 1/23/2022 6:39:00 AM Turn 2 United Kingdom Message A Bomb and Global Issue placed.

157 1/21/2022 5:21:00 PM Turn 2 Soviet Union Message I'll pick the UK Production issue and a US Directed Offense issue.

Round to the USA for their two issues.
156 1/21/2022 3:17:00 AM Turn 2 United Kingdom Message UK 4+1 for national characteristic, USA 3, Soviets 4.

UK wins with overall differential of 2. Place Pol-Mil 1/3 on the 2 space of the UK track.
155 1/20/2022 3:44:00 AM Turn 2 United Kingdom Message UK plays Ismay, also a 4
154 1/19/2022 6:44:00 PM Turn 2 Soviet Union Message I've played and revealed Gregory Kulik, a 4, as my agenda card.
153 1/18/2022 2:18:00 PM Turn 2 United Kingdom Message There's a lot of balancing to be done. If there is too much infighting then the Axis powers are going to hold out.

I'm exaggerating a bit about Stalin and the fall of Japan, but the Pacific Theatre is not a great Soviet concern (the A bomb track might be). If say Germany surrenders and Japan does not then the victory evaluation is according to the revised 4.43 [pasted below]. In a tight game it can lead to an interesting final tally.

4.43 Global Hegemon, Axis Conditional Surrender: If one or
both Axis powers have not surrendered, then the player with the
most points subtracts 5 points, the player with the second most
subtracts 3 points, and the player with the fewest points adds 5
points to their respective totals
152 1/18/2022 5:47:00 AM Turn 2 United States Message WOW, lot to think about.

In Helping Britain it seems then to encourage colonies (for them) and thus hurt US.

In helping Soviets (or trying for A-Bomb and failing) seems to help Russia again while either hurting US or at least not improving the situation.

Perhaps trying to 'win' the war and keeping Soviets and British at each others throats might be a strategy for me?
151 1/18/2022 4:34:00 AM Turn 2 United Kingdom Message Stalin does not want Japan to have surrendered by game end.

If you scan through criteria Q to Z there are VPs that the Soviets would obviously prefer the US/UK to not have.

On the positive side Stalin wants the SW Pacific front to not reach the Philippines, the US to have the disunity of inter-service rivalry, to have reached Korea for the 8VP (there's still only 8VP for getting to Japan itself so why bother?), and to have gained A bomb spy VPs which include the bombs not being ready.

There's a lot in this game that models history and possible alternatives simply and well. MH doesn't put as much rationale into the rule booklet as he might have, but he did in articles, design diaries and so on.
150 1/18/2022 4:25:00 AM Turn 2 United Kingdom Message A bomb related VPs.

Look at Letter To Roosevelt as a zero space on a track with Oak Ridge as 1 and Trinity as 4.

The USA is trying to get the bomb (Trinity) and it is all or nothing. They either have it to help bring about Japanese surrender or they don't.

The Soviets are trying to steal American nuclear know-how so that they are not too far behind in developing their bomb in the post war world.

So under X the USSR currently has 3VP for getting one space along the track with its spy ring.

There are no US/UK VPs under Y because the blue marker has not reached Trinity.

The Soviets currently have 3VP under Z because the blue marker has not reached Trinity.

That's where the 6 Soviet VPs currently come from.

149 1/18/2022 4:14:00 AM Turn 2 United Kingdom Message The scores are according to the errata and are as listed on the chart in the Vassal module (the blue background right hand side). If you have the original game, that's slightly wrong, but for the life of me I can't remember the exact details.

Colonies: a war aim for Churchill in the preservation and where necessary restitution of colonial empires. The dark blue background colonies on the Pacific map are this battleground along with the left Global Issue track on the conference part of the board. Colonies, like Malaya, are similar to but not quite the same as countries, like Hungary. So VP criterion A gives 3VP per country or colony with a PA marker [if there at game end it is either your colony (UK) or puppet state (USA/Soviets)]. Moving on to B note that the CA VP is only for countries. Then under F the UK gets 1VP per colony with no CN or PA marker [at war end if the UK hasn't got them under A, it gets points for reinstating French and Dutch colonialism].
148 1/17/2022 8:36:00 AM Turn 2 United States Message United Kingdom: from 0 to 24
Soviet Union: from 0 to 10
United States: from 0 to 2

walk be thru the scores -
UK gets 3 for winning conference
UK gets 6 (for 2) alignment markers
UK gets 3 for clandestine marker
UK gets 5 for Global issue
UK gets ? for colonies - not sure how to count that one

USSR gets 2 for spies
I am starting to lose track here - I'm sure you are right but get lost in the rules
147 1/16/2022 4:38:00 PM Turn 2 United Kingdom Message Soviet CNs to Czechoslovakia and Poland

USA CNs to Dutch East Indies, Czechoslovakia and Bulgaria

USA CNs to Malaya and Austria

The Cz ones cancel. My Austria one removes a Soviet CN.

Shifted the spare Sov to Poland. USA needs to place DEI and Bulgaria.

Have drawn 7 cards and placed one on the table.

Message from United Kingdom:
C1 Front rolls.

Western Europe – not enough Fleets in place. Eastern Europe – too many Axis reinforcements.

First roll then is for Med. 2 OS markers mean strength of attack is 6. Advance to N Africa on 1-6.

135 1/16/2022 12:35:00 PM Turn 1 United Kingdom Message UK about to roll.
134 1/15/2022 3:30:00 PM Turn 1 Soviet Union Message The map looks fine to me.

Sorry for the absence, I don't know what's been wrong with me but I've hardly been out of bed this week. I haven't felt unwell, just very, very tired and unable to concentrate on just about anything.
133 1/15/2022 10:18:00 AM Turn 1 United States Message go for it - not near board at the moment

132 1/15/2022 10:12:00 AM Turn 1 United Kingdom Message Front advances now need to be rolled for. Subject to being OK with my Axis reserve deployment. I'll roll for the fronts later on if nobody else has.
131 1/14/2022 5:24:00 AM Turn 1 United States Message So where are we at this point - who is waiting for whom?
130 1/13/2022 11:52:00 AM Turn 1 United States Message Even the Med (soft underbelly) really will not effect too much the massive forces that get to be placed by Germans in the East....
129 1/13/2022 10:12:00 AM Turn 1 United Kingdom Message So much goes to the Eastern Front in Europe until the Western Allies have moved forward that one understands Stalin's push for the landings in France as soon as possible.
128 1/11/2022 3:35:00 PM Turn 1 United States Message No rush - hope you feel better soon
127 1/11/2022 2:11:00 PM Turn 1 Soviet Union Message I'm somewhat under the weather - suddenly very tired early yesterday afternoon and have been asleep most of today - and hope to get back with the game tomorrow.

122 1/10/2022 4:57:00 PM Turn 1 United Kingdom Message Europe.

German Navy to Western Theatre box

4 more to Don River

Italian Army to N Africa

Then a roll for the final one
121 1/10/2022 4:52:00 PM Turn 1 United Kingdom Message Right, moving on with Axis placements now. Please check before we do on to the Fronts Advancing.
120 1/10/2022 5:22:00 AM Turn 1 United Kingdom Message Next up is Axis reserve placement. I'll do that this afternoon if nobody else moves things along.
119 1/10/2022 5:18:00 AM Turn 1 United Kingdom Message Political alignment. UK has 2 and others none I believe.

Middle East and Siam.
118 1/8/2022 8:01:00 AM Turn 1 United States Message on in Belgium

And I'll add / flip the arty to naval
117 1/8/2022 7:59:00 AM Turn 1 United States Message > Naval in the Central Pacific
I'll bow to Gen. Stalin's assessment of Japanese possible efforts to thwart our Central Pacific advance
116 1/7/2022 5:38:00 PM Turn 1 Soviet Union Message USSR has one cn to place, which I'll put in Vietnam.

USA should probably put 4 Naval in the Central Pacific theatre box, in case the IJN remove one. (I think, and yes we are pretty rusty, that IJN going to the Central Pacific would drop the naval support by one so if there are only three there to begin with then that would drop to two and no advance would be possible - see 7.72 point 1)
115 1/6/2022 9:11:00 PM Turn 1 United States Message Russia can go first
114 1/5/2022 5:56:00 PM Turn 1 United Kingdom Message Therefore UK goes first placing 3 CNs in: France, Middle East and Siam.

USA decides who places next.
113 1/5/2022 5:53:00 PM Turn 1 United Kingdom Message Clandestine Networks available:

UK 1 per 7.1 plus 2 from the 2/2 Pol-Mil issue = 3.

Soviets and USA each get 1 under 7.1 so UK places first and USA then decides who places 2nd.

Political Alignment markers will be: just 2 for UK I believe, from the 2/2 issue.
112 1/5/2022 5:47:00 PM Turn 1 United Kingdom Message I'll change one so the minimum needed to advance is probably there.

UK won Global Issue and move US-UK dimension one to Colonialism
111 1/5/2022 5:21:00 AM Turn 1 United States Message I'm okay with switching as many as possible
please do so on your turn
110 1/4/2022 6:01:00 PM Turn 1 United Kingdom Message >BTW, should we be using Naval markers or offensive (ground) markers in Marshalls? don't see where it matters at this stage of game?

Eek. Yes we are very rusty here. Most of the markers should be OS ones [artillery icon] but we should have placed enough Naval for the front to be able to advance. I suggest we change one of them.

Naval make an advance possible into spaces with an amphibious marker, OS go towards extending the die roll for success.
109 1/3/2022 9:32:00 PM Turn 1 United States Message REALLY....? fail - damn commies...

Message from United States:

107 1/3/2022 9:29:00 PM Turn 1 United States Message Asian marker goes to Marshalls also.

BTW, should we be using Naval markers or offensive (ground) markers in Marshalls? don't see where it matters at this stage of game?
106 1/3/2022 11:33:00 AM Turn 1 United Kingdom Message Correction. UK places Med for Europe. USA then places for Asia and makes an A-Bomb research roll.
105 1/3/2022 11:31:00 AM Turn 1 United Kingdom Message Theatre leadership. UK places OS in Med and CBI.
104 1/3/2022 11:28:00 AM Turn 1 United Kingdom Message UK production is a base 4 +1 for Strategic Materials + 1 for capturing a USA one as an issue.

1 must go to the Med due to the card, 2 to Central Pacific as USA placed a Directed Offensive there.

Three left. 1 to activate the 2/2 Pol-Mil and place 2 more in Med.
103 1/3/2022 11:19:00 AM Turn 1 United Kingdom Message 5th USA marker was the Strat Materials one. I'll place it and then swap the Pacific ones for OS markers

102 1/2/2022 6:23:00 AM Turn 1 United States Message British are up ?
101 12/30/2021 9:50:00 PM Turn 1 United States Message HUM...well, place 2 with the Atom Bomb
100 12/30/2021 9:28:00 PM Turn 1 Soviet Union Message I think you still have one marker to place, i.e. you had 5 to place plus 1 to give the UK but you've only placed 4.
99 12/30/2021 9:22:00 PM Turn 1 Soviet Union Message I *think* you should get a base of 6, plus 1 for strategic materials giving 7. One is lost thanks to Kasserine so you're back down to 6, then you have to give one of them to the UK because they won one of your production issues, giving you a total of 5 to place. From the conference card two of those must be spent in the Pacific (didn't you put the markers there to remind you? I think you said something about that at the start of the conference)
98 12/30/2021 9:22:00 PM Turn 1 United States Message Well, first, due to Card I have to put 2 in Pacific

First 2 to Marshal Islands area

( I had forgot I had placed 2 markers already in Pacific so board marker count is right)

Giving one to British so I have 2 more

My 2nd to last one will also go to Marshalls
I'll place my last 1 on Atom Bomb
97 12/30/2021 9:12:00 PM Turn 1 United States Message Each player simultaneously receives a base quantity
of production markers (US six, UK four, USSR three)
plus any bonuses provided by the conference card,
winning production issues, the Arctic Theater situation,
and the Strategic Material issue.

HUM...board only give me 4 ( and I lost one) but rules give me 5 - so perhaps I should have 5 - 1 then 1 for Strat. Mater. so total of 5?

Then British will TAKE one from me as he controlled one marker so I'm now back to 4?
