177 | 2/2/2022 6:09:00 PM | Turn 2 | Soviet Union | Message |
Ah, yes, I meant it's the UK to advance an issue. Stalin shouldn't have been marked as Inactive (although he is now) - if you look at the conference card you'll see that he stayed in Moscow this time and is not allowed to advance an issue, but is still allowed to debate. His strength is 7, so the issue he debates moves 7 spaces from where it was advanced to (see 5.24) |
176 | 2/2/2022 3:09:00 PM | Turn 2 | United States | Message |
A few things - and I ask forgivness as I am not near my board. First I thought Stalin was out of this conference so not sure if you can still use him. Also a switch of 7 (or 8) steps seems awful large I though the marker just went back to the starting point. Finally since I just did a move not sure how/why I would 'go again'....??? Or perhaps I'm just clueless here. - very possible... :-) |

There's a lot of balancing to be done. If there is too much infighting then the Axis powers are going to hold out. I'm exaggerating a bit about Stalin and the fall of Japan, but the Pacific Theatre is not a great Soviet concern (the A bomb track might be). If say Germany surrenders and Japan does not then the victory evaluation is according to the revised 4.43 [pasted below]. In a tight game it can lead to an interesting final tally. 4.43 Global Hegemon, Axis Conditional Surrender: If one or both Axis powers have not surrendered, then the player with the most points subtracts 5 points, the player with the second most subtracts 3 points, and the player with the fewest points adds 5 points to their respective totals |
152 | 1/18/2022 5:47:00 AM | Turn 2 | United States | Message |
WOW, lot to think about. In Helping Britain it seems then to encourage colonies (for them) and thus hurt US. In helping Soviets (or trying for A-Bomb and failing) seems to help Russia again while either hurting US or at least not improving the situation. Perhaps trying to 'win' the war and keeping Soviets and British at each others throats might be a strategy for me? |
151 | 1/18/2022 4:34:00 AM | Turn 2 | United Kingdom | Message |
Stalin does not want Japan to have surrendered by game end. If you scan through criteria Q to Z there are VPs that the Soviets would obviously prefer the US/UK to not have. On the positive side Stalin wants the SW Pacific front to not reach the Philippines, the US to have the disunity of inter-service rivalry, to have reached Korea for the 8VP (there's still only 8VP for getting to Japan itself so why bother?), and to have gained A bomb spy VPs which include the bombs not being ready. There's a lot in this game that models history and possible alternatives simply and well. MH doesn't put as much rationale into the rule booklet as he might have, but he did in articles, design diaries and so on. |
150 | 1/18/2022 4:25:00 AM | Turn 2 | United Kingdom | Message |
A bomb related VPs. Look at Letter To Roosevelt as a zero space on a track with Oak Ridge as 1 and Trinity as 4. The USA is trying to get the bomb (Trinity) and it is all or nothing. They either have it to help bring about Japanese surrender or they don't. The Soviets are trying to steal American nuclear know-how so that they are not too far behind in developing their bomb in the post war world. So under X the USSR currently has 3VP for getting one space along the track with its spy ring. There are no US/UK VPs under Y because the blue marker has not reached Trinity. The Soviets currently have 3VP under Z because the blue marker has not reached Trinity. That's where the 6 Soviet VPs currently come from. |

The scores are according to the errata and are as listed on the chart in the Vassal module (the blue background right hand side). If you have the original game, that's slightly wrong, but for the life of me I can't remember the exact details. Colonies: a war aim for Churchill in the preservation and where necessary restitution of colonial empires. The dark blue background colonies on the Pacific map are this battleground along with the left Global Issue track on the conference part of the board. Colonies, like Malaya, are similar to but not quite the same as countries, like Hungary. So VP criterion A gives 3VP per country or colony with a PA marker [if there at game end it is either your colony (UK) or puppet state (USA/Soviets)]. Moving on to B note that the CA VP is only for countries. Then under F the UK gets 1VP per colony with no CN or PA marker [at war end if the UK hasn't got them under A, it gets points for reinstating French and Dutch colonialism]. |

116 | 1/7/2022 5:38:00 PM | Turn 1 | Soviet Union | Message |
USSR has one cn to place, which I'll put in Vietnam. USA should probably put 4 Naval in the Central Pacific theatre box, in case the IJN remove one. (I think, and yes we are pretty rusty, that IJN going to the Central Pacific would drop the naval support by one so if there are only three there to begin with then that would drop to two and no advance would be possible - see 7.72 point 1) |
115 | 1/6/2022 9:11:00 PM | Turn 1 | United States | Message |
Russia can go first |
114 | 1/5/2022 5:56:00 PM | Turn 1 | United Kingdom | Message |

113 | 1/5/2022 5:53:00 PM | Turn 1 | United Kingdom | Message |
Clandestine Networks available: UK 1 per 7.1 plus 2 from the 2/2 Pol-Mil issue = 3. Soviets and USA each get 1 under 7.1 so UK places first and USA then decides who places 2nd. Political Alignment markers will be: just 2 for UK I believe, from the 2/2 issue. |
112 | 1/5/2022 5:47:00 PM | Turn 1 | United Kingdom | Message |

>BTW, should we be using Naval markers or offensive (ground) markers in Marshalls? don't see where it matters at this stage of game? Eek. Yes we are very rusty here. Most of the markers should be OS ones [artillery icon] but we should have placed enough Naval for the front to be able to advance. I suggest we change one of them. Naval make an advance possible into spaces with an amphibious marker, OS go towards extending the die roll for success. |

I think you still have one marker to place, i.e. you had 5 to place plus 1 to give the UK but you've only placed 4. |
99 | 12/30/2021 9:22:00 PM | Turn 1 | Soviet Union | Message |
I *think* you should get a base of 6, plus 1 for strategic materials giving 7. One is lost thanks to Kasserine so you're back down to 6, then you have to give one of them to the UK because they won one of your production issues, giving you a total of 5 to place. From the conference card two of those must be spent in the Pacific (didn't you put the markers there to remind you? I think you said something about that at the start of the conference) |
98 | 12/30/2021 9:22:00 PM | Turn 1 | United States | Message |
Well, first, due to Card I have to put 2 in Pacific First 2 to Marshal Islands area ( I had forgot I had placed 2 markers already in Pacific so board marker count is right) Giving one to British so I have 2 more My 2nd to last one will also go to Marshalls I'll place my last 1 on Atom Bomb |
97 | 12/30/2021 9:12:00 PM | Turn 1 | United States | Message |
Each player simultaneously receives a base quantity of production markers (US six, UK four, USSR three) plus any bonuses provided by the conference card, winning production issues, the Arctic Theater situation, and the Strategic Material issue. HUM...board only give me 4 ( and I lost one) but rules give me 5 - so perhaps I should have 5 - 1 then 1 for Strat. Mater. so total of 5? Then British will TAKE one from me as he controlled one marker so I'm now back to 4? |
