Message from France:
French build stockade in Osgewatchie
82 4/18/2024 6:17:00 PM 1755 Late Season France Message End of Campaign: Montcalm plus Villers and units remain in Osgewatchie.
81 4/18/2024 12:09:00 AM 1755 Late Season Britain Message OK. I see now that Montcalm moved to Montreal in Post # 57. If you can, it's easier for me to find earlier move if you identify the specific post by number, rather than saying "T1."

My Mohawk unit won't try to intercept at Oswegatchie.

80 4/17/2024 5:13:00 PM 1755 Late Season France Message Jefferson. If you are not going to Intercept, Montcalm and his force will stop in Wasgewatchie.
Please confirm if your reduced Mohawk will not intercept?

79 4/16/2024 10:34:00 AM 1755 Late Season France Message Montcalm has not picked up any regulars while on the move-only at the start of his last 2 moves.
78 4/16/2024 10:31:00 AM 1755 Late Season France Message Montcalm moved from Montreal with the 1x2 and the 1x3 regulars during his campaign move.
77 4/16/2024 10:27:00 AM 1755 Late Season France Message Correct 5 reduced regulars in Quebec.
Montcalm picked up 1 when starting his move from Quebec to Montreal in T1 and later in his last Campaign move from Montreal to Osgewatchie, where you decide whether to intercept.
76 4/15/2024 11:35:00 PM 1755 Late Season Britain Message I have a minor correction: you don't have a full-strength Regulars at at Quebec. You moved two u/s Regs back there after the fight at Naioure Bay, then added three f/s Regs, but I reduced all of them with my smallpox die roll. See Posts 54 "(My only three full regulars") and 72 ("5x2-4 Regs").

You do have a f/s Reg at Montreal, but Montcalm can't pick it up on the move.

75 4/15/2024 8:57:00 PM 1755 Late Season France Message Replaying Montcalm as the Campaign move. Montcalm moves by boat with 1xReg, 1x(Reg), 2 Courers, 2 Indians 2MPs to Abenaki and drops off 1 Abenaki for Levis. He then moves 5 MPS by boat with the remaining 5 units 5MPs by boat to Osgewatchie. Will your Indian intercept Montcalm?
74 4/15/2024 8:52:00 PM 1755 Late Season France Message Levis was dropped off in Abenakion the turn previous to Campaign (entry 57). There are now 3 generals in Quebec.
The rest of your troop data is correct, if we agree that in Crown Point there is 1 Courers and 1 Marine.
73 4/15/2024 1:05:00 PM 1755 Late Season France Message Thank you Jefferson. Yes, your die result for reinforcements will stand.
I am making a fresh campaign move for Montcalm from Montreal.
I can verify my generals when I return from work today
72 4/14/2024 11:35:00 PM 1755 Late Season Britain Message Let me just confirm my understanding of what you will have in the following three places affected by your last move when you dial everything back:

Quebec: 4 Leaders, 5x2-4's

Montreal: Rigaud, 1x3-4, 1x2-4, 2 Indians, 2 CdBs

Crown Point: Marine 1-4, Marin CdB
71 4/14/2024 11:19:00 PM 1755 Late Season Britain Message On further thought, let me ask for one other provision:

When I play the Royal Americans card in the future, my die roll that produced Bradstreet as the leader still stands. That seems like a reasonable compensation for your knowledge that I now hold that card, as well as the fact that I have already done that roll.

70 4/14/2024 11:13:00 PM 1755 Late Season Britain Return permanently removed Strategy card to hand #65: 3 / Royal Americans

Message from Britain:
69 4/14/2024 11:13:00 PM 1755 Late Season Britain Message No problem. We can dial back everything from Post # 59 on, and let you do a re-run. I will return my card to my hand.

No need to give me a re-roll, but I will accept a credit of one similar mulligan if I find myself similarly discombobulated in the future. I think I last played around 2018, so I'm a little rusty too.

Like you said: a sportsmanlike game.

68 4/13/2024 3:01:00 PM 1755 Late Season France Message Jefferson, I thought I was to go first in the Late season too.
I sent a message last night about my botched campaign move with Montcalm. Please respond to that and then decide if you want to return your reinforcement card to your deck. Both decisions are yours.
Thanks, Steve
67 4/12/2024 11:26:00 PM 1755 Late Season France Message Jefferson, this is my fault, but I misread the Supply rule as having unbroken chain to a "Fort." I now see the term "Fortress" instead. Everything I have west of Osgewatchie can be easily be put out of supply.
Would you consider my making a different move for Montcalm under my previous Campaign card, so that Montcalm picks up all units in Montreal and moves to Osgewatchie, subject to our right to intercept with your (Mohawk)? In exchange for your right to 1 reroll at anytime?
Of course, you can say no and my move will stand.
I have not played this since 2015. It really shows.
66 4/12/2024 11:05:00 PM 1755 Late Season Britain Message Bradstreet goes to Hudson Carry South (a/k/a Fort Anne).

Next time I will play this card when you advance on Quebec.
53 4/2/2024 11:11:00 PM 1755 Early Season Britain Message Well, I was due for a good die roll again. You have to eliminate steps equal to half of my die roll (=2.5), but rounded up, so that means 3 steps.

Smallpox had apparently already been present inside the walls of Quebec, but the crowded conditions caused by the arrival of the additional troops precipitated a major outbreak.

Message from France:
Avoid battle +1
43 4/2/2024 12:17:00 AM 1755 Early Season Britain Message Now, for the second part of my Campaign move.

I'll activate Shirley, who will move from Naioure Bay to Cataraqui with his 3x2-4's.

Again, you may attempt to Avoid Battle, or the gallant Villers and his weakened garrison may choose to try and face off this latest, and significantly stronger, assault. If you do the latter, the battle will shape up asfollows:

BR: 6 CFs so they fire on the 6-8 column; -1 DRM for stockade and -1 DRM for no Auxiliaries, so an overall DRM of -2.

FR: 1 CF so they fire on the 1 column, but with a +1 DRM for Villers.

42 4/2/2024 12:02:00 AM 1755 Early Season Britain Message Now for the losses.

Under Rule 7.62, each of us must take half of our losses from a Drilled Troop unit. That means that I must eliminate one of my reduced 1-4s and your Marine detachment gets flipped to an 0-4, but survives.

Next, under Rule 7.63, neither of us can eliminate a unit while other units remain at full-strength. This means that you must reduce your Coureurs unit (as you did), but I can't just eliminate my other 1-4 Drilled unit. Instead, I must reduce one of my Mohawk units to an 0-6 (which, all things considered, I would have preferred not to do).

41 4/1/2024 11:56:00 PM 1755 Early Season Britain Message The Battle of Cataraquu (a reassessment):

Well, that was a surprising result -- and a dismaying one, from my perspective. I tried to take Cataraqui on the cheap, which wasn't an unreasonable calculation, but your small garrison fought exceptionally well under Villier's command in producing that '7' die roll! My own smallish force likewise fought well, but not quite enough to offset that.

Both of us inflicted and suffered 2 step losses: so that's a tie. And under Rule 7.8, "The Defender wins a tie." So the victory is yours. The garrison of Fort Cataraqui is much reduced, but Johnson's force withdraws to Oswegatchie to lick its wound.

So you win 1 VP, and the VP track is reduced by -1 to BR = 2.

37 3/31/2024 11:08:00 PM 1755 Early Season Britain Message In that case, Johnson's force captures and flips the French stockade at Oswegatchie. +1 VP (now BR 3 VPs).

Shirley then continues his march with his entire force to Cataraqui.

You may attempt to Avoid Battle. If not, then you may resolve the battle, which stacks up as follows:

Johnson: 4 CFs = 4-5 Firing Column +1 DRM for Johnson's Battle Rating - 1 DRM for stockade, so 0 DRMs.

Villiers: 2 CFs = 2 Firing Column +1 DRM for Villiers' Battle rating.

35 3/31/2024 12:09:00 AM 1755 Early Season Britain Play Strategy card as Event #2: 3 / Campaign
Activate any two leaders and their forces. Select them, then complete all actions by one before the other. No one may move more than once. Both may naval move.

Message from Britain:
I'll play this for the event. I'll activate two separate forces in Naioure Bay:

1. Johnson, with 2x1-4 and 2x1-6.
2. Shirley, with 3x2-4.

For my first move Johnston's force will move through Black River to Oswegatchie.

Please advise whether you will attempt an interception with any of your units at Cataraqui.

34 3/30/2024 11:27:00 PM 1755 Early Season Britain Message Yes, I think you've got it:

- You have to wait until another impulse to play the "French Regulars" card you just drew (Rule 5.22: the card goes into your hand); and

- Starting next turn, you get to draw 9 cards.

33 3/30/2024 6:34:00 PM 1755 Early Season France Message Not clear to me. I get to play French Regulars. I think I have to wait for another turn to play it.

29 3/29/2024 10:45:00 PM 1755 Early Season Britain Message Very good.

BTW, if you'd like to play MMW sometime, I enjoy that very much as well.
28 3/29/2024 1:58:00 AM 1755 Early Season France Message I mistakenly applied the drms as offsetting. Not like Mr. Madison's War which I have been playing.
You win 3-2. Rule 5.45 states the stockade is destroyed since you won the battle involving regulars. That adds a 2nd VP for Britain.
Over to you
Your move.
27 3/29/2024 12:22:00 AM 1755 Early Season Britain Message I don't see any reason why you would reconsider your boat move back to Quebec with Dieskau's force under the circumstances, but I'll let you confirm that before I execute my next card play.
26 3/29/2024 12:15:00 AM 1755 Early Season Britain Message The Battle of Naioure Bay (reconsidered):

You've got most of it right, but unless there's something I'm overlooking, you're wrong about the final outcome. Let's walk through it.

Per Rule 5.34, I can activate Shirley with the 5 Provincials, along with his subordinate Johnston with the 2 Indians. These all comprise a single "force" as defined in the paragraph following Rule 5.34. That entire force is commanded by Shirley.

Under Rules 6.51 and 7.1, combat is mandatory for all units not inside a fort or fortress when an active force moves into a space with defenders.

As you picked up after first calculating the odds, under Rule 7.52. you suffer a Die Roll Modifier (DRM) of -1 because I had auxiliaries in a Wilderness space and you did not. Conversely, I suffer a -1 because of your stockade.

That leaves us with a battle calculation as follows:

British = 12 CFs (roll on 9-12 column) -1 DRM for enemy stockade.

French = 9 CFs (roll on 9-12 column) -1 DRM for British auxiliaries.

British rolled a 5, reduced to 4 = 3 step losses inflicted on the French.

French rolled a 4, reduced to a 3 = 2 step losses inflicted on the British.

[I'm not sure why you thought the British die roll would wind up as a 3.]

Thus, if my view is correct, the British win because they inflicted the greater step losses (Rule 7.8). You must then retreat your force (obviously, to Cataracqui). The British get the 1 VP, because your force consisted of Regulars.

In addition, I believe, your stockade was destroyed as a result of your defeat and forced retreat, which would net me an additional +1 VP, for a net of +2 VPs. However, I'm having trouble finding the rule that confirms that.

But I note that if I had moved Drilled troops into an unoccupied stockade, then I would capture it and get +1 VP. So I think it's clear that I get the additional 1 VP; the only question is thus whether your stockade is destroyed, or whether I can flip it to British control, which would obviously be the preferred outcome from my perspective.

If you can't find the answer in the rules, I'll post a query on BGG or ConsimWprld.

23 3/26/2024 12:49:00 PM 1755 Early Season France Message I reread the rules and the senior commander can include the units of subordinates in an attack or defense. The subordinate generals do not count towards the command rating of the senior general.

Your thoughts
21 3/26/2024 1:36:00 AM 1755 Early Season France Message Could you attack with 1 Mohawk since your command rating is 6?
That would give you 1 auxiliary to my 0 and an additional -1 drm. But the result remains at 3-3
Next time w start a battle let's calculate the modifiers to the die roll beforehand
20 3/26/2024 1:24:00 AM 1755 Early Season France Message my mistake in thinking Shirley had a 1 battle rating
19 3/26/2024 1:21:00 AM 1755 Early Season France Message You had to attack with Shirley because he can carry 5 regulars into battle with a command rating of 6.

so instead of a 5 you get a 4 which is still 3 hits apiece.
