it gets tricky as to what an obvious mistake is though. I "forgot" about ambush cards so I want to take back my last offensive. How do you really objectively rule what is obvious or not? I don't want to take more losses and I don't have any need to reposition units on this card so that is why I would not react. Plus your air is easily replaced/redeployed so no need to eliminate it. Maybe I'm making an "obvious" mistake ;-) And I don't think this game is over--the PW cards could still come out to prevent an auto victory and between the ambush and early surprise, you are ahead on the attrition schedule. |

Jay, Please take a look at the EOTS ladder game I’m playing with Brian. He forgot about the last ground step being invulnerable in A/N battles. It was an obvious mistake, so I pointed it out. That’s the way I like to play all these games. The first time I was in the FTP Tournament my opponent had to correct EVERY move I made. It got to be really funny after the 9th or 10th card… So thank you. In the final analysis, I think the outcome of the game is virtually a foregone conclusion, as my PW is going to 0 sooner or later. But I’ll try to hang in there for a bit. I will redo the move BEFORE I start drinking tonight. But, just to clarify, why don’t you want to react to kill the air unit? |

I guess I'm old school on these things. Part of the skill is executing the moves and knowing the rules. Having run tournaments before (I did a Barbie to Berlin tournament for several years), it can start to get messy because what seems like an obvious mistake to one player is just a bad move to another. For example, if player A repositions units and creates an opening for player B to take out an HQ or put A's units all OOS, should A ask for a redo because that obviously wasn't his intent? (I'd say no obviously.) I've made this very mistake (allowing disengagements) in past tournaments and I didn't ask nor expect a redo. And I've always been very conscious of stack movement order since then :-). Anyway, I'm not going to die on this hill and I realize I'm a bit old school in my approach. You can redo your move. No reaction from Japan so you can roll it all out. |

The movement order does matter for disengagement. When I invaded Kauai earlier, I called out a potentially unsettled rules interpretation but that was only because the rules were potentially unclear and I wanted to clarify if my rules interpretation was wrong I would make a different move. I don't think the disengagement rules are confusing so this isn't the same situation. Not trying to be over the top but for tournament games I go with the logs and I make tactical mistakes in most games, just part of the game. |
