As to the Battle of Mutina: Yes, if I had secured the initiative, I would have played a second DE. I suspected that might well have been it. So close! That was a bitter disappointment. Indeed, you dodged the bullet on my die rolls during this first turn repeatedly: Alps Crossing (1) = -1 Carthaginian CU Epidemic (2) = -1 Carthaginian CU Battle Attrition (2) -1 Carthaginian CU Winter Attrition (1) = -1 Carthaginian CU Overall, you lost 5 CUs that turn, to my loss of 6 CUs. Hi Jeff, I dodged a bullet there. First I had no more DEs so if you get the init, I'm dead. Also, I thought with the card I played that I could remove the Roman PC after the battle and not suffer winter attrition but on reading the card, I was wrong. Fortunately winter attr was only 1 CU. I should be able to get going on turn 2 on Tuesday. |

Okay, my worst nightmare. Clearly, after a battle that had been hard fought for quite some time, the Roman army was finally overwhelmed during the retreat. The Carthaginians lose a total of 1. Answers: First let me say, I didn't do my Campaign turn very well but I think it was right. 1. Yes I did mean to leave one CU in Saguntum. I also left Mago there. Note that Mago and Gisgo start with Hannibal in Saguntum. 2. Since Mago was in Saguntum, it was one space to go to Dertosa and three more spaces to get to New Carthage. A much better way to do what I wanted would have been to move Han,Gisgo and 8e2 to Dersota, drop 1CU and continue to Narbo. And then just move Mago all by himself from Sag to New Carthage. Not sure why I didn't do it that way. |
