(Both) Move a General whose Strategy Rating is 1 or 2 up to six spaces.

Message from Rome:

Do you have a "Bad Weather" card to play?
87 7/26/2022 9:29:00 PM 217 BC Rome Message No problem, of course. Hope you had a good visit.

I've had three demanding days of hearings on 7/14, 7/20, and yesterday, so I have been preoccupied with that.

86 7/20/2022 12:06:00 AM 217 BC Carthage Play Strategy card as Operations #19: 1 / Senate Dismisses Proconsul
(Both) If there is a Roman Proconsul on the map other than Scipio Africanus, it is removed and replaced with an unused Roman General. The player playing this card determines the replacement.

(Rome) Place two Roman CUs with any General in Italy if SAMNIUM is Roman controlled.

Message from Rome:
Add 2 CUs to Marcellus's and Publius's force at Ariminium, increasing it from 9 to 11 CUs.
84 7/14/2022 8:50:00 PM 217 BC Rome Message Dave, my apologies. You jumped on so shortly after I did that I have looked at my ACTS dashboard several times over the past several days without pressing on to the actual game screen and thought "Huh -- It's not like Dave to let this much time pass without making a move."

83 7/10/2022 1:51:00 PM 217 BC Carthage Play Strategy card as Operations #10: 2 / Macedonian Reinforcements
(Carthage) Place two Carthaginian CU's in any friendly controlled port in Africa or Italy. May only be played while Philip V of Macedonia is allied with Carthage.

Message from Carthage:
Carthage will go first.
Thanks for the verification on CUs.
Add PCs at Icosium and Saldae in Africa, we don't want the pesky Romans dropping in.
82 7/10/2022 1:13:00 PM 217 BC Rome Message We're all good. I also have 1 17 CUs:

Ariminium: 9 CUs with Marcellus & P. Scipio
Agrigentum: 8 CUs

81 7/5/2022 12:24:00 AM 217 BC Carthage Message I have Carth at 17 CUs(which includes 2e) after adding 4 CUs for reinforcements.

Consular elections:

2 - Flaminius
3 - Fabius Maximus
4 - Marcellus
5 - Gaius Nero
6 - Terrentius Varro
7 - Aemilius Paulus

75 7/2/2022 10:47:00 PM 217 BC Rome Message I'll designate P. Scipio as a Proconsul.

74 7/2/2022 10:42:00 PM 217 BC Rome Message As for my Turn 2 reinforcements, I'll place all 5 CUs at Mutina, to bring that force back up to 9 CUs.

73 7/2/2022 10:40:00 PM 217 BC Rome Message As to the Battle of Mutina:

Yes, if I had secured the initiative, I would have played a second DE. I suspected that might well have been it. So close! That was a bitter disappointment.

Indeed, you dodged the bullet on my die rolls during this first turn repeatedly:

Alps Crossing (1) = -1 Carthaginian CU
Epidemic (2) = -1 Carthaginian CU
Battle Attrition (2) -1 Carthaginian CU
Winter Attrition (1) = -1 Carthaginian CU

Overall, you lost 5 CUs that turn, to my loss of 6 CUs. But with a little better luck, I should have been able to cripple Hannibal's army.

Number of CUs on the board at the end of Turn 1 (218 BC):

Carthage: 9 CUs + 2 CU-e's = 11 CUs
Rome: 12 CUs

72 6/30/2022 12:14:00 AM 217 BC Carthage Message My error.
Also 1 CU at Dertosa.
71 6/30/2022 12:05:00 AM 217 BC Carthage Draw Strategy cards 7 cards drawn.

70 6/30/2022 12:05:00 AM 217 BC Carthage Message I'll draw my cards now that I've done reinfocements.

69 6/30/2022 12:04:00 AM 217 BC Carthage Message Carth reinforcements.
1 with Han, Gisgo giving 5e2 at Mutina
1 with Hanno giving 5 at Carthage.
2 with Has, Mago giving 4 at New Carthage.
That is all the Carth CUs on the board.
Over to you for your reinforcements, new consuls.
68 6/30/2022 12:01:00 AM 218 BC Carthage End Turn
67 6/30/2022 218 BC Carthage Message I'll remove Laminium (adj to New Carthage) for political.
66 6/29/2022 11:38:00 PM 218 BC Carthage Message Jeff, thanks for the Point of Interest, keep them coming, I truly enjoy them.
65 6/28/2022 2:36:00 AM 218 BC Carthage Message Hi Jeff, I dodged a bullet there. First I had no more DEs so if you get the init, I'm dead. Also, I thought with the card I played that I could remove the Roman PC after the battle and not suffer winter attrition but on reading the card, I was wrong. Fortunately winter attr was only 1 CU. I should be able to get going on turn 2 on Tuesday.
64 6/23/2022 11:24:00 PM 218 BC Rome Message I don't think we have any isolated PCs, so we move on to the Victory Check phase.

You have 3 provinces in Africa; 4 in Spain; and Gallia Cisalpina = 8.

I have 6 provinces in Italy; 2 in Sicily; and Corsica-Sardinia = 9.

You must remove one more PC.

Once you do so, you may advance the turn, and we'll move on to the year 217.

63 6/23/2022 11:18:00 PM 218 BC Rome Message Well, I am on quite a roll, as they say. You realize you're going to be in a lot of trouble when my luck turns, right?

Still, that's enough to nick your force of 7 CUs for an additional 1 CU, so you're now down to 6. And I did have a 50% chance of only knocking off 1 CU.

62 6/23/2022 11:15:00 PM 218 BC Rome Die roll request Request: 6-sided die x 1

Message from Rome:
First up: the Winter Attrition Phase. I beileve the only place this applies is to Hannibal's Carthaginian army, since it is sitting on Roman-controlled Mutina.

61 6/23/2022 11:14:00 PM 218 BC Rome Message And now to the End-of-Turn Mechanics.

60 6/23/2022 11:06:00 PM 218 BC Rome Play Strategy card as Event #3: 3 / Numidia Revolts
(Both) Pick either Western or Eastern Numidia and remove all your opponent's PCs in that province which are not stacked with his CU's.

Message from Rome:
Alas, with Hannibal's army now pushing deeper into Italy, the western Numidians decide that the moment is opportune to throw off the Carthaginian yoke!

Thus, Carthaginian PCs are removed from:

Icosium
Saldae
Zuccabar
Tupuscutu
Vescera

And Carthage loses control of Western Numidia.

Point of Interest: Either Zuccabar or the modern equivalent of Tupuscutu was the location where the desert city sequences in "Gladiator" were filmed.
59 6/23/2022 11:00:00 PM 218 BC Rome Message And the political consequences are dire, too. I must remove 3 PCs.

Apri
Enna
Nuoro

58 6/23/2022 10:55:00 PM 218 BC Rome Message Okay, my worst nightmare. Clearly, after a battle that had been hard fought for quite some time, the Roman army was finally overwhelmed during the retreat.

The Carthaginians lose a total of 1. The Romans lose 1 CU + 5 CUs in the retreat, for a total of 6 CUs lost, or nearly half of Publius's force.

The surviving Romans rally and regroup ion Ariminium.

Message from Rome:
Attrition Roll.

54 6/23/2022 10:50:00 PM 218 BC Rome Message And back to the Battle of Mutina.

At this point, Publius has exhausted the last of his reserves, so Hannibal's continued pressure on the Roman right flank (as I believe it would be) ultimately bears fruit, and the Roman army is forced to retreat from the field.

53 6/23/2022 10:47:00 PM 218 BC Rome Message My apologies, Dave. I've been having to deal with two successive deadlines at work -- one last Wednesday, the other now set for next Monday. Plus, three nights in a row of evening events last weekend, so I lost the thread of the game for a bit. Thanks for your patience, as always.

52 6/23/2022 2:15:00 AM 218 BC Carthage Message Hi Jeff, no rush, just want to make sure you knew it was your turn. take care.

35 6/8/2022 1:40:00 AM 218 BC Carthage Message Elephants were successful so card count is now 12 to 12.

So the current card count for the battle is:
Han: 7 + 4 + 1 = 12
Scipio : 10 + 2 + 2 = 14.
Han will be using the elephants.
32 6/5/2022 11:46:00 PM 218 BC Rome Message Publius and his army will stand and fight.
No "Elephant Fright."

Dave, FYI -- I have a three-day hearing starting Wednesday and a ton of preparation still to do, so I may be slow in responding prior to the weekend.

31 6/3/2022 2:13:00 AM 218 BC Carthage Play Strategy card as Event #28: 2 / Hannibal Charms Italy
(Carthage) If you play this as an OC to move Hannibal, you may remove each Roman non-walled PC in each space in Italy that Hannibal enters which does not contain any Roman CUs.

17 5/27/2022 10:38:00 AM 218 BC Rome Play Strategy card as Event #45: 2 / Allied Auxiliaries (Etruria)
(Rome) Place two Roman CUs with any General in Italy if ETRURIA is Roman controlled.

Message from Rome:
Etrurian recruits arrive in Rome in response to Publius's call. Now 10 CUs there.
16 5/27/2022 10:32:00 AM 218 BC Rome Message So I should end up with:

- Hannibal, Gisgo & 7 CUs + 2CU-Es in Narbo;
- 1 CU in Dertosa;
- 1 CU in Saguntum; and
- Hasdrubal, Mago and 2 CUs in New Carthage?

15 5/27/2022 10:29:00 AM 218 BC Rome Message Oh, I see where I was confused. I thought Mago started in New Carthage, whereas that's actually Hasdrubal.

14 5/27/2022 1:10:00 AM 218 BC Carthage Message Answers:
First let me say, I didn't do my Campaign turn very well but I think it was right.
1. Yes I did mean to leave one CU in Saguntum. I also left Mago there. Note that Mago and Gisgo start with Hannibal in Saguntum.
2. Since Mago was in Saguntum, it was one space to go to Dertosa and three more spaces to get to New Carthage.
A much better way to do what I wanted would have been to move Han,Gisgo and 8e2 to Dersota, drop 1CU and continue to Narbo. And then just move Mago all by himself from Sag to New Carthage. Not sure why I didn't do it that way.
13 5/27/2022 12:33:00 AM 218 BC Rome Message Dave:
I have two questions about this move.

1. Did you intend for Hannibal to leave 1 CU in Saguntum?

2. I'm not seeing how Mago gets to Dertosa and all the way back to New Carthage in a single move. Doesn't he have to end his return move in Saguntum? Dertosa is three MPs from New Carthage.

12 5/25/2022 3:45:00 AM 218 BC Carthage Play Strategy card as Operations #40: 3 / Minor Campaign
(Both) MOVE ANY TWO GENERALS. Each General can move up to four spaces with 10 combat units.
