173 3/7/2025 9:18:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Message No worries. As my one of my original posts stated, I completely understand if you do not want to play since I do not use Vassal.

I am also stretched on email games. I am playing 4 email games and typically only play 1 or 2. After we started FtP, I had two requests I should have said no to. So, ending this game is probably best for me too. The USA and CSA agree to a cease fire. It is a draw.

I definitely got something out of our game in that I forgot how much I love this game.

I will pass on a game using Vassal. Thanks for letting me know instead of just ghosting.

Peace.
172 3/7/2025 4:48:00 PM Fall 1861 Confederate Message I rarely do this but it is too much to keep up with only using ACTS. I surrender and you win. I over played my turn 1 and 2 and set myself up for your great Campaign attack.

I will not play this game unless Vassal files are traded back and forth to keep track of moves. I do not mind using both but only using ACTS is too much.

You taught me some things I have never thought of so well played.

Willing to play again now or later if you wish and if we use and trade vassal map files.

I got way behind in games I am playing due to illness and other family matters and have to to do time management decisions

149 3/1/2025 11:21:00 AM Fall 1861 Confederate Message I understand the basic theme is cards overrule the rules so will go along with playing those two PC markers
148 3/1/2025 11:07:00 AM Fall 1861 Union Message I understand what you are saying and I see your point regarding rule 11.3, however, card events override rules in the rulebook. If card events did not override the rulebook, many (if not most) card events could not be used.

While card driven wargames are all unique, the common theme in all card driven wargames is that card events override rules in the rulebook.

The Crittenden Compromise event states, “Union places two PC markers in ANY spaces…” Note the word ‘ANY’. It does not mention Union or border states.

The card also states, “…which are not Resource spaces, Blockade Runner Ports, or Coastal forts.” Resource spaces, Blockade Runner ports, and Coastal forts are only in Confederate states. The fact that the card mentions Confederate state spaces is a good indication Union PC markers can be placed in certain types of Confederate states spaces.

Even though I have not played this game in many years and I am sure I will make rule mistakes, I have played it enough to be confident card events always override the rulebook.

The rulebook is lengthy and it took me a long time to get comfortable with the rules but I do think this game is a masterpiece.

Let me know your thoughts on my interpretation. If you disagree with me, I will redo my strategy round.
147 3/1/2025 9:28:00 AM Fall 1861 Confederate Message I have gone over the rules and disagree that you can place PC marker in Arkansas.  Rule 11.3 says a player may place PC markers in any space that contains any number of Friendly in supply SP's or in a boarder state.  Arkansas is not a boarder state.  You have to march troops in to take a space or and army to convert the space.
146 2/28/2025 7:30:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Event #29: 2 / Crittenden Compromise
Union places (or flips in border states) two PC markers in any spaces free of Confederate SPs or forts which are not Resource spaces, Blockade Runner Ports, or Coastal forts. Void after Emancipation Proclamation. Remove from deck if event is played.

Message from Union:
I will place USA PCs in:
Fayetteville, AR
Clarksville, AR
145 2/28/2025 11:23:00 AM Fall 1861 Confederate Message I would have known that if I had really looked at card. I will take 1sp from Pope, Now 2. and one sp from Lebanon Ky. Now 3sp
144 2/26/2025 6:04:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Message Card #20 (Union Arms Production Delayed) states “the SP cannot be the last SP in the space.

You cannot remove the sole USA SP in Paducah.
143 2/26/2025 10:21:00 AM Fall 1861 Confederate Play Strategy card as Event #20: 3 / Union Arms Production Delayed
Confederate removes two Union SPs (Confederate chooses). No more than one SP can be removed from a space and the SP cannot be the last SP in the space.

Message from Confederate:
I remove 1SP from Pope and 1sp from Paducah
142 2/26/2025 10:15:00 AM Fall 1861 Confederate Message I definitely confused rules about hex ownership and LOC. I agree with your being in supply. I have gone back to read rules again as totally missed rule on losses. Pope with 3 SP in Columbus
141 2/25/2025 10:19:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Message Pope is in supply status in Columbus per Rule 8.1.

Rule 8.1 states: A unit is in supply if it has a Line of Communication (LOC). A unit has a LOC if it can trace a path of spaces to an ultimate supply source. All spaces of the path (except the space of the force) must be friendly-controlled or neutral, and free of enemy SPs or forts (exception: Riverine spaces under Union naval control).
140 2/25/2025 10:09:00 PM Fall 1861 Confederate Message You can only gain control and supply if You own Space. It takes an army to change a space. I am not home but re look.
139 2/25/2025 9:57:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Operations #105: 1 / Detached Cavalry
Played prior to a battle against an army possessing one or more cavalry brigades. The ONLY effects are the Army’s Commanding General’s battle rating (offense or defense) is immediately reduced by 2 and no Cavalry general’s battle ratings may be used in the battle. The effects end at the conclusion of the battle. Cavalry generals are not available for casualty determination. OR: Place one PC marker in any space within four spaces (includes river connections) of a single cavalry brigade. The four space range many not be traced through Northeast Alabama. The space may not contain an enemy SP or fort, but may contain an Ironclad or Torpedoes.

Message from Union:
McClellan, 4 SPs in Frederick build a fort.

See my prior posts (post 137 and 138).
138 2/25/2025 9:55:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Message West Virginia should have converted to USA control during Turn 2 Summer 1861 Political Control Determination Segment.

Should we change West Virginia now or wait until Turn 3 Political Control Determination Segnent? Either way is completely fine with me.
137 2/25/2025 9:46:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Message For my attack on Columbus, KY in post 128, Pope was not out of supply, per 8.1 second sentence. Pope and his force can trace supply to Paducah, Cairo, etc.

Therefore, damage to USA was 2 not 3. In addition, a force cannot inflict losses in excess of twice its strength, 7.81.

Pope has 3 SPs in Columbus, KY.
136 2/25/2025 9:12:00 PM Fall 1861 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #16: 2 / Grierson's Raid

107 2/14/2025 8:20:00 PM Fall 1861 Union Message Sorry but I am confused by posts 104 and 105.

1.Did you play a Minor Campaign card or a Minor Campaign card? You need to play a card.

2.In post 103, Pemberton is in Humboldt. In post 104, Pemberton is in Dover. This doesn’t really matter if you tell me where he is now.

3.How many SPs are in Bowling Green? I am not sure if Bragg took any SPs from Bowling Green.

4.In post 106, you state you are making a second move, so I assume you played a Minor Campaign card. Activating Bragg, A Johnston, and Beauregard would require a Major Campaign card.

5. Three generals cannot be left with 1 SP in Humboldt, rule 5.34.

6.Is Van Dorn in Dover per post 103?

7.In post 104 “leaves” means leave behind but in post 105 “leaves” means move with or take. Sorry, but it took me a long time to figure this out. When you said Bragg leaves Dover with Price and 4 SPs. I thought it meant Bragg told Price and SPs to remain in Dover. Maybe if you use “move with” or “takes” it would help me. Sorry, I am old.

If you tell me the generals and number of SPs in the following spaces, I can take my turn and play a card:
Columbus, KY
Humboldt
Dover
Bowling Green
