Dear Philip, Please consider my counter assessment. You should have calculated that if CSA succeed 2 raids the game is over. MD was already occup[ied. Gettysburg was CSA controlled. This means that to raid PA, Rebels needed only 2 PA spaces. ...and there were 100% certainty that AOM would take Chambers and AONV would walk to Uniontown unopposed. That means when you used your last card, with that disposition, you had already lost. There wasn't possibility to avoid Rebels two state raid. However, if you sent Halleck and 3 sp to Somerset d 2 in Somerset, than sent Halleck to Lebanon, your chances to preserve KY was 11/36. This would have given the chance to continue playing. Initial PA raid was far from reckless. it cut off Northern rail, make you lose precious 6 sp + the SW bonus. Removing the cav was a good move because the next turn CSA would have received 3 cavalry. I needn't love AONV and could have left there. It would be very hard for. b you to destroy it. Meanwhile Lee's army would be formed and start itas attacks from the South. Loosing AONV is part of the plan and should I lost it wouldn't be a catastrophic loss. In fact, I shouldn't even use the campaign to move it. Which I often do than not. CSA never loses the game on turn 3. Cheers Tolga |

Moving Halleck south would have done very little - as you can only drop 1SP in Somerset and continue alone to Franklin. Price can get 3SP (including Paducah) and attack Franklin, the chances of the CSA winning that are greater than 70%. I think leaving PA in the position it was in also opened an alternative option to the CSA that tried to take Pittsburg and then take both PA and OH. The initial raid that you made in PA, which technically won you game, I consider was a very poor (a reckless move) - removal of a cav leader and a single SP in left in each space was a bad move. It relied entirely on you drawing a Campaign card (from my experience this about a third of hands). Had you not done that its likely you would have lost AOT and the game on turn 4. |

If you could secure KY with 10+ SW, I wouldn't be able to win this turn. Price's offensive rating doesn't allow a guaranteed take back even if I allocated one of my cards to activate him... and that, not counting an eventual intercept by Halleck. I concur I received ridiculously strong hands. Would I be able to win without them. May be. May be not. You played UnIon very good in my measurements. Defend. defend, defend as it should be. You are the second most defensive Union player that I know. (and me being the first :-). Against dream team of CSA, large battles are the best defence. That was your only failure... Otherwise, you were the better player of this match up. Irrespective of the result, I enjoyed the game. Until we meet again... Cheers. |

well no surprise there - on way traffic on the cards was always going to produce that result. Trying to take KY was a best a long shot - and that last card would certainly seem the same result |

#16: 2 / Grierson's Raid Union may place two Union PC markers in any spaces within four spaces (includes river connections) of a single Union cavalry brigade. The four space range cannot be traced through Northeast Alabama and may not contain a Confederate SP or Fort, but may contain an Ironclad or Torpedoes. Message from Union: The delay was in part figuring out how to play this. Playing the event has some attractions and I am guessing, that having gone to Harrisburg, that you have a 2 space intercept card. Using that card will do me damage with this move but it also reduces the excess cards in your hand from 2 to 1, which (I hope) makes it worth it.
