The best defence with the AP is to use a "combination" of attacking with the French and British units each turn and force the CP player to use 2-3 RP cards each turn. This prevents an offesnive into Russia. At the same time, trenches should be built by Russia in Insterberg and Tannenberg and maybe K-P. Creating multiple Fronts is also a good idea. I like to create Fronts in Salonika and the NE Map and if possible in Italy. In a Long Game, typically the AP will win due to Blockade. Knocking Russia out of the war with Fall of Tsar is usually fatal for the AP. I typically play defensively with the Russians always. At least 2 trenches at a minimum and maximum pressure on the Western Front. |

Thanks Johnny. Yes. I know Alex and Tom. I would actually credit both of them for my game play. 10 years ago, they patiently taught me tactics and general game flow and strategy. I attribute both of them and Michael Dauer for my game play. I am not doing anything unique. I am simply following their strategy. In the fairly recent Global Bitterwoods PoG Tournament, which took 4 years to complete, I made it to the semi finals fairly easily and then got destroyed through some game play which was very unorthodox and they thoughly deserved to win. But it knocked me out of the game. |

Simon, you seem to be very good at this game and could probably compete with the best of the best at the WBC in July... you should try to get a pbem game with Allex Gregorio, who is always near to their winner's circle. So you feel the key is to trench the Russians early and often. I tried several times to entrench Insterberg and felt Tannenberg could not be held... I am now wondering if advancing and holding Munkacs was worth the effort? |
