80 8/11/2026 11:52:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message Yeah, rough hand and glad I kept you busy - but you managed it well. Very unique (and clever on your part) use of Detached Cavalry. I had to research if that was possible to go over the Potomac and through DC but the card is clear - in this instance, river connections can be crossed, I guess fort or no fort.

Of course, would like to know how that Mud March play would have panned out, but on we go! :-)
79 8/11/2026 10:41:00 PM Summer 1861 Confederate Message You control WVA, and all spaces with your troops in VA (12 effective spaces US controlled)

-1 AoP attrition, n3
believe that's the only attrition
78 8/11/2026 10:37:00 PM Summer 1861 Confederate Play Strategy card as Event #105: 1 / Detached Cavalry
Played prior to a battle against an army possessing one or more cavalry brigades. The ONLY effects are the Army’s Commanding General’s battle rating (offense or defense) is immediately reduced by 2 and no Cavalry general’s battle ratings may be used in the battle. The effects end at the conclusion of the battle. Cavalry generals are not available for casualty determination. OR: Place one PC marker in any space within four spaces (includes river connections) of a single cavalry brigade. The four space range many not be traced through Northeast Alabama. The space may not contain an enemy SP or fort, but may contain an Ironclad or Torpedoes.

Message from Confederate:
Three 1's this turn, not a tremendous amount I could do, since I had to respond to your runaround

event - PC marker back on Annapolis
77 8/11/2026 1:19:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Play Strategy card as Event #85: 3 / Minor Campaign
Conduct up to two moves or conduct one special army-size naval move. No SP, general, or army marker may be moved twice with the same campaign card. You must move a different force each move.

Message from Union:
Not sure it's the best time to do this, but, something else for you to think about so...

1 SP Fort Monroe to Sabine, TX (Butler stays behind in the fort)
74 8/10/2026 11:13:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message Wouldn't have been automatic since I have a fort and you'd retreat if I pulled off a battle win, and I appreciate the courtesy but...yeah that would be powerful indeed.

The downside is you'd let me go last if you lost. But I probably would have done it!
73 8/10/2026 11:10:00 PM Summer 1861 Confederate Play Strategy card as Operations #7: 1 / Mud March
Interrupt enemy force currently moving to no more than one space of movement. (Converting a space counts as movement.) Applies to only one move during a Major or Minor campaign card, but not a special army-naval move.

Message from Confederate:
PC Lexington

Was considering using this when AoP moved to Annapolis, followed up with an attack on Washington, but figured that had a high likelihood of ending the game but that's not why I'm playing this game ;-)

66 8/10/2026 10:56:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message You can leave more than 1 subordinate behind with 1 SP, if you want to pick up Stuart, but only 1 subordinate total with the commanding general during the move and no more than 6 SP at one time.
65 8/10/2026 10:54:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message Corps can also have no more than 6 SP
64 8/10/2026 10:54:00 PM Summer 1861 Union Message Corps can only include one subordinate, so one of those guys has to stay behind with an SP.

30 8/8/2026 8:44:00 PM Spring 1861 Confederate Message no worries, no rush - this could be the first of many, so either could call it and restart ;-)

I'm having to check the rules often, which slows my play to degree

29 8/8/2026 8:32:00 PM Spring 1861 Union Message Yep, that's the thing with this game. You really can be at the mercy of the card gods.

Of course, not taking anything from you. Well done.

So that's a raid, 1 less SP for Annapolis and I believe 4 less SP in the East for cutting of DC.

I'll continue on a bit later. If I have a weak hand Turn 2, this one's about in the oven. If so, happy to start another.
28 8/8/2026 8:29:00 PM Spring 1861 Confederate Message When I played Doctor this year, he did that to me to start the game...had to try it out.

22 8/8/2026 8:13:00 PM Spring 1861 Confederate Message agree, defender rolls battle (typically), thanks

OK, SP back in Memphis, only 5 w/Beauregard
21 8/8/2026 7:56:00 PM Spring 1861 Union Message Well, now your plan certainly makes sense. I guess I should be thankful it's only Turn 1. Alas, not much Union can do about that...

One note - the SP from Memphis would leave Polk alone in the space, which is not allowed.

Proceed with 1 less SP? You can resolve the battle.

Should mention it's typically my policy for defender to roll battles (so we can catch mistakes), unless otherwise stated as I did above.

For interceptions and retreats, obvious rolls can be made by the phasing player.

18 8/8/2026 7:14:00 PM Spring 1861 Confederate Play Strategy card as Event #75: 2 / Western Concentration Block
Confederate player can either remove or demote an army commander in any state except Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, or Florida for no political cost. OR Confederate Player may move 5 SPs using Strategic Movement (rail connections only) to the same space with a Confederate General who is then activated and must attempt to enter a space with at least one or more Union SPs or fort. If a general casualty occurs in a battle caused by this card, the Commanding General is eligible, this is an exception to the rules. See 4.5 Remove from deck if event is played.
