1465 11/27/2023 7:39:00 PM Turn 15 Shannon M Message Picked up a French flu on the way back to the USA that knocked me out for a few days. On the mend and should have a move for you soon.
1464 11/16/2023 8:06:00 AM Turn 15 Shannon M Message I believe the GMT sale is now. You should have gotten an alert if you are on their newsletter.

I got some special sales and other benefits when I went to their convention in mid October - 50% off one game, a free non vintage game as a first time attendee, etc.
1463 11/16/2023 8:05:00 AM Turn 15 Shannon M Message No to the UK. My trip was Northern Italy about 1.5 weeks ago and then Provence and then Carcassone and Toulouse for the last week. I am on the train from Arles to Carcassone as of this writing.
1462 11/16/2023 7:33:00 AM Turn 15 Shannon M Message Nobody wanted to learn TCW. There were so many other games, new and known, I didn't care. What's nice is that you can leave your stuff on the table for the entire weekend and nobody touches it unlike other conventions.
1461 11/16/2023 7:31:00 AM Turn 15 Shannon M Message This trip is great but taking up a ton of my time unlike the previous one. I may get one move in before I return on Thanksgiving but we'll see. Sorry about that. Planning part of the trip while traveling is more time consuming than expected. Last time I traveled to Europe I had my now ex girlfriend handle a lot of things for me.
1460 10/30/2023 3:23:00 PM Turn 15 Jeremy R Message Hope you're not planning on visiting the UK on this trip. October's weather has been horrible with one storm after another, and the forecast has more on the way.

Meant to ask - did you find any takers for TCW at the games weekend, or is it too old and unfashionable?

Also, any idea what will be in the GMT sale, this year? Have just been charged for the latest LHY, but there are one or two other games I could be tempted by.
1459 10/30/2023 3:12:00 PM Turn 15 Jeremy R Message Sherman makes a strategic withdrawal for now so he can consolidate his hold on the Savannah river.

1457 10/30/2023 1:50:00 AM Turn 15 Shannon M Message The Hunt is a card game. I would grade it a B based on what it is.
1456 10/26/2023 2:54:00 PM Turn 15 Jeremy R Message Never heard of "The Hunt" - is it any good?
1455 10/26/2023 2:51:00 PM Turn 15 Jeremy R Message Sorry, but think I'll pass on Catherine of Aragon. I'm not a fan of the Tudors at the best of times (a combination of a bad history teacher, far too many TV dramas, and their being a generally loathsome crew), and Phillipa Gregory's dodgy grasp of history doesn't help. To me, the Plantagenets were much more interesting.
1454 10/23/2023 6:59:00 PM Turn 15 Shannon M Message Just watched this series which focuses on Catherine of Aragon. Done well in some areas but for history buffs they took some liberties.

She was betrothed to Henry's elder brother who died of the Sweating Sickness. Then Henry's father tried to marry her to secure the alliance with Spain (as well as get that juicy dowry) but he got blocked by Catherine's mother. Later she was betrothed to Henry.

And later, as we know from the game, she got pushed into a convent so that Henry could find a wife who would bear him a son.

Catherine, a devout Catholic, was the mother of Mary who ruled England for several years in favor of the Catholics.

1450 10/11/2023 6:10:00 PM Turn 15 Jeremy R Message >>> Good job on taking NC. I was debating on moving AONV near Charlottesville but there were priorities.<<<

In that case, would have sent the AoT to attack instead of Lyon. If Uncle Billy hadn't taken the city, the AoNV would still have ended up OOS, so it was a win either way.

I'm just puzzled why someone would buy a game knowing they're not going to like the subject. His comments on other games remind me of the answers you see on Amazon where someone asks a question, and the reply says something like "I don't know, I haven't got this model." Anyway, one thing's for certain, I won't be buying his book.

1441 10/10/2023 3:16:00 PM Turn 15 Jeremy R Message The trees are behind the mountains (well, those that haven't been blown away). :)

I got the feeling the way slaves were portrayed offended the reviewer's sensibilities, so he decided to do a hatchet job on the whole game. It must severely limit the games he can bring himself to play. Perhaps he should read first sentence of The Go-Between. Alfred Korzybski seems appropriate, too: "The map is not the territory, the word is not the thing it describes."

See also, Rene Magritte's "The treachery of images". :)

Have a good time. Let me know if you find any recruits for TCW.

1440 10/10/2023 12:56:00 AM Turn 15 Shannon M Message Haven't played Jeff Davis yet b/c of other wargaming distractions.

The YouTube reviews and elsewhere were mostly positive.

That guy sounds like he's on the left so I'm not surprised he is trying to trash it.

Does the blogger play other wargames and get the challenges of a solo wargame? Doesn't sound like it.

1435 10/6/2023 9:08:00 AM Turn 15 Shannon M Message Actually, people keep lying about the General Sherman Tree.

It's the world's most massive tree and arguably the largest living organism.
